Why is Mumsnet so GC?

ireallycantthinkofaname · 03/02/2024 00:18

Maybe an odd question but I've never come across another space, online or otherwise, where being GC is the norm. IRL I only ever discuss GC views openly with one family member, whose stance on it is similar to my own, though, so I'm not saying it's unwelcome.... Just curious how/why it's come about. Any thoughts or theories?

Did I say that?

You seem to be arguing with an imaginary person and then transposing that position onto me.

I was hammering bricks out of the wall of gender as a child long before Greer's disappointing anti-trans nose-dive!

What gives you the impression that a person who has spent her entire life defying and dismantling gendered strictures and expectations believes that people should behave in gendered ways based on the biology they were born with?

Why is there such a fixation on the ways that the polypeptide chains in our cells are arranged? It's so self-defeating.

We are all just anonymous names. We know nothing about you. We can only judge you by your arguments.

For clarity, a man is gender non conforming if he describes himself as a man even though he wears clothes associated with femininity. He is gender conforming if he describes himself as a woman because he wears clothes associated with femininity.

From what you have posted on this thread, the impression is that you are in the second category.

A lot more of my body is made of polypeptide chains than the pre-translation nucleic acid chains that code for them

Proteins, in normal parlance? Why use a long and a short word when one short word does the job? Confused Well, I suppose they do come up to some extent when we're discussing sport, those that form muscle.

It's the structure and function of the organs made from the proteins that matter, and some of these are crucially different between the sexes.

JacksonLambsEatIvy · 18/02/2024 19:08

And human-manufactured. It would be a synthetic material.

But BH would be there to berate us for being bigoted for not pretending it existed in nature.

Waitwhat23 · 18/02/2024 19:06

Unfortunately for Butterfly, they can't even claim to be the originator of that made up term. That glory seems to go to some dude on a subreddit about beards.

pombear · 18/02/2024 19:04

Whilst I'm up for giving BH the benefit of the doubt that BH was just attempting creativity in adding to the existing word salad, 'Masculinium' is remarkably close in wordsmithing to 'masculinism' Masculism - Wikipedia

"The terms may also refer to the men's rights movement or men's movement,[b] as well as a type of antifeminism."

Masculism - Wikipedia

JacksonLambsEatIvy · 18/02/2024 19:04

masculinium would undoubtedly be radioactive.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 18/02/2024 19:02

Masculinium would also fit very nicely into the Element Song but

It hasn't been discovered.

(We should lobby Harvard for the name when they find a new one!)

We have the option to learn this song for Chemistry so, I made a lyrics video just in case anyone else wants to learn? :DLink to an animation of this song he...

Magic sex essence is just a reference to spunk. Obviously.

ApocalipstickNow · 18/02/2024 18:59

It’s a bit like how Stan Lee invented his superheroes though. (Although it should be Butterfly Batched so no-prize)

JacksonLambsEatIvy · 18/02/2024 18:53

Oh it is infuriating to read this pseudo-scientific bullshit being spread around with the clear intent to try to make it hard for people to argue against you.

It does not make you look clever.

Especially given the egregious hypocrisy of asking where the magical sex essence is. From someone who is absolutely wedded to actual magical thinking about innate gender identities.

It’s like reading essays written by an arrogant undergrad who missed all the classes and is hoping that copious use of the thesaurus will hide their total absence of knowledge or understanding of the material.

Hiding your lack of knowledge or coherent thought behind impenetrable text or made up concepts and words is a common tactic for a particular sub group of people.

Waitingfordoggo · 18/02/2024 18:55

BH is so close to getting this but isn’t quite there yet.

The moment at which sperm meets egg is indeed the moment someone is conceived as a male or female. Masculinity and femininity aren’t part of the equation at all as they have nothing to do with biology.

Helleofabore · 18/02/2024 18:53

That 'magic sex essence' was already coded in the sperm I am afraid.

And we don't need any analytical tool to see that 'magic sex essence'. It is observable in every. single. post. We have been telling you about your posts for years now. I think that 'magic sex essence' is so plentiful in your case that you cannot see what we have been saying. And you are surrounded by people being 'kind' to you that they never told you the truth. Or they did, and you couldn't believe it.

@ButterflyHatched "Did the masculinium enter my body at the moment of fertilisation or was it added later?" Right first time! It came into the egg with the sperm and it's been swimming about in every cell of your body ever since! "Masculinium" is a fantastic word btw, makes the rest of your posts worth wading through.

Glad you're enjoying this!

Helleofabore · 18/02/2024 18:49

Oh. That was anti-climatic.

Waitwhat23 · 18/02/2024 18:43

Honestly, I assumed it was some new, bullshittery pseudo science which TRA's are pushing.

A note, don't Google masculinium. It takes you to a very weird blog.

I assumed that was the point. That people would look it up.

But I am prepped ready to receive the education about masculinium.... It should be great to learn new information.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/02/2024 17:46

Why is there such a fixation on the ways that the polypeptide chains in our cells are arranged? It's so self-defeating.

I've never heard any mention of polypeptide chains on this board beforeConfused (I'd have noticed, I'm professionally very interested in protein structures but it's got bugger all to do with feminism.)

Perhaps you meant nucleic acid chains, as a roundabout way of saying 'biological sex'?. If you don't understand why that is important to females in general and feminists in particular, you've not been listening to us.

A lot more of my body is made of polypeptide chains than the pre-translation nucleic acid chains that code for them but maybe the magical sex essence only exists in those?

JacksonLambsEatIvy · 18/02/2024 18:31

Honestly, ‘masculinium’. 🙄🙄🙄

The fact you think that’s actually a clever response - making up something that sounds like a chemical element to try to reify gender stereotypes - speaks volumes.

I dunno @JacksonLambsEatIvy are you sure you’re an actual woman what with all this science knowledge? Surely sciencing is only for men while us women flutter & giggle and paint our nails

Tell you what. How about you 'educate' us and post the medical literature to 'educate us' all? I look forward to this one.... I really hope you finally produce some evidence to back up your words.

Yep - that's right - when sperm meets egg with that Y chromosome.

But but but...the gender sorting hat????????

My exact thought - what was TFE, 1970?
