Hard to disentangle trolling or bs from reality now. So grotesque has the inequality and selfishness become.

This.

Thedance · 02/02/2024 18:39

I think Badennoch would be a terrible PM because I fundamentally disagree with her politics.
But I can't believe a previous PP said they don't want her because I they don't want another woman! It's such a stupid comment.
There have been three women PMs all from the same party. I didn't like any of them but their sex has nothing to do with it. How many male PMs have there been? And how many of those have been good? I think the last three male PMs we have had have been disastrous!

ArabellaScott · 02/02/2024 17:14

I suppose internalised misogyny can affect us all. Bloody depressing, however.

No - I have worked for women and definately am one but as exemplified by many on MN - the infighting, the carping, the hive mind that everything must be about and for women is enough to deter me.

Name one successful woman PM of this country?

I am expressing an opinion just like you are and your shouting me down is an example of the intolerance of certain sections of woman-hood. I did my own thing in the 70s and supported equal right for women etc but what we have now is that everything must be viewed through the lens of 'women must be in charge, they can do no wrong'.

I have every right to make a comment on a feminist topic - just as you have

What a fucking disgusting post. Idiotic on every level.

Dapbag · 02/02/2024 16:23

@ruby1957 'what we have now is that everything must be viewed through the lens of 'women must be in charge, they can do no wrong'.

  • Domestic violence
  • Harassment and rape
  • Only 1% of reported rape cases result in prosecution
  • Misogyny by the police
  • Online abuse
  • Female genital mutilation
  • The fact that women are less likely to have personal pensions and when they do they have less money in them
  • 70% of the people struggling financially in retirement are women
  • Safety equipment designed for the male body only
  • The pay gap. ..THE PAY GAP!!!
  • Women generally start their careers with more qualifications but on less money than men
  • Women do do the majority of unpaid work in the UK e.g. cooking, cleaning and caring. On average around 60% more than that undertaken by men

There is no lens of 'women must be in charge and they can do no wrong.'

Given the above list it's a wonder that the 'hive mind' hasn't burst out into a full on revolution.

Well I’m 48 and none of them affect me….

own my house no mortgage
generally work abroad when I do and mostly invest
private health

environment don’t really care as I’ll be long dead by the time it really matters

Children are not my problem - their parents problem as they. Hose to have them.

Corruption? We would all do it if we thought we could get away with it.

As long as you have this demographic of tory voter and the pensioner cohort (some, I might add), the tories can continue running the country into the ground unencumbered. The in-fighting doesn't help the overall optics but a bit of infighting never stopped a tory from knowing which side their bread's buttered on.

But you see they do affect you.....

If you are in a car accident and need urgent medical attention it will be an NHS ambulance taking you to an NHS A&E. BUPA aren't going to send out a little private ambulance for you with your own monogrammed slippers warming in the back.

If you swim in the sea and get sick because of sewage in the water you will wish you'd cared more about the environment.

If you don't have food to eat because the environment has been ruined you'll wish you'd cared more.

Those children will be the people looking after you and your DH when you are in a care home.

Oh, and not all would get away with corruption given the chance. Millions of people have stronger principles than you.

I admire the optimism she has to aspire to be PM but she wouldn't be elected, and doubt she'd manage to get in via the backdoor a la Rishi. He'll also be gone when it comes to election time but again - the optimism is nice.

Speak for yourself.Hmm Corruption costs all of us, particularly women and children.

What are her views people don’t agree with? I only know her gender views which I think are researched and coherent

borntobequiet · 01/02/2024 22:33

No. She’s right on this issue but that’s it.

The tories are not right wing enough at the moment hence them losing votes they usually count on.

England is inherently conservative and votes in self interest as I will be doing.

Labour has no policy so far that benefits me as a childless higher rate tax payer with no mortgage and private insurance.

This is not true - or certainly not true any more - the polling for Tories amongst anyone under 49 is catastrophic and moving rightwards is absolutely not the way to improve it.

TempestTost · 01/02/2024 20:45

I think she is quite intelligent, and in some ways I value that more than seeing policy the way I do myself.

That being said, she'd be crazy to go for it now. The Tories are almost certain to lose, or perhaps they could end up in some sort of minority position. I tend to think they'd be best off to stick with Sunak, he isn't actually a complete failure.

Reasons why the Tories are losing votes they took for granted

  • running the country into the ground
  • allowing pollution in our rivers
  • failing on all housing measures
  • ruining the economy
  • HS2 failure(s)
  • increasing the tax burden on individuals
  • the parlous state of public services
  • reducing Environment Agency spending by 75% in 10 years
  • NHS waiting times
  • PPE contracts for friends and family
  • Michelle Mone PPE contract
  • Partygate
  • Liz Truss mini budget
  • gold wallpaper
  • Boris Johnson's £15,000 holiday
  • tractor porn
  • three Prime Ministers in a year
  • four Chancellors of the Exchequer in one year
  • tax fraud
  • Pritti Patel's bullying and the resultant expensive compensation at tax payers expense
  • rule breaking over lobbying
  • Sunak's non-dom tax loopholes
  • cash for favours
  • Hancock's snogging in the office
  • Watered down environmental targets
  • Sunak's heated stables and swimming pool whilst public baths close
  • Liz Trusses resignation honours list
  • Ending SureStart
  • No dentists
  • Poor public transport
  • The parlous state of our roads
  • 4.2 million children (29% of all UK children) in poverty - up from 3.6 million in 2010 - 11.

I'd be very interested to see the data on how many votes they're losing because they're not right wing enough.

"When you're not doing so well, vote for a better life for yourself. If you are doing quite nicely, vote for a better life for others." Irvine Welsh

No - I would not want another woman as PM - they cannot run the country just on women's issues/women's rights.

A PM must take account of all sides on the issues and I can think of very few of any stripe who have managed to do that.

Really interesting that the only posts on here supporting Kemi are because of her strong woman energy, because she does her research, speaks her mind and would be fun in the pub.

Nobody has said they admire her politics.

BatteryPowerGnat · 01/02/2024 18:50

ThePenguinIsDrunk · 01/02/2024 10:32

Nope. While I admire her stance and actions wrt women's and girl's rights and single sex spaces I disgree with her on almost all else and think many tory policies would be devastating for women and children however they ID

^^ exactly this is it for me
