Starmer: "trans-inclusive" conversion therapy ban, "modernise" the GRA, all hate crime to be aggravated offences as part of making every child "proud and confident"

Exclusive in Diva, following a reception at a LGBT+ Labour event in Parliament on 29 Jan:

https://diva-magazine.com/2024/01/29/exclusive-keir-starmer-lgbtqia-rights/

"“We’ll strengthen the law, so every category of hate crime is treated as an aggravated offence,” Starmer said. “We’ll cut NHS waiting lists for LGBT+ people waiting for urgent physical and mental health care. We’ll modernise the Gender Recognition Act. We’ll implement a full, trans-inclusive, ban on all forms of conversion therapy. We fully support the view that conversion therapy is psychologically damaging abuse.”

“We are committed to a decade of national renewal and will work with all the organisations in this room tonight so every child can feel proud and confident in who they are, to stand up for LGBT+ rights at home and abroad and to get Britain’s future back.”

The mention of children is unclear but must have a background to the full speech? LGBT Labour hasn't tweeted about it but others have. Rayner and Dodds also in attendance.

Repent motherfucker?

OP posts:
Clabony · 03/02/2024 16:35

@Boiledbeetle funny you should say that.
I was thinking of all the Trotskyist groupings trying to sell half baked papers to me over the decades I used to go to Conference. All a tad too eager and pop eyed.

Not forgetting that I did once see some bloke in a Celtic scarf trying to sell a magazine outside Parkhead with the headline Dialectical Materialism. I think he might have been from Socialist Organiser.
<It could have been Billy Bragg on his paper round - similar vibes>.

He didn't last too long.

Floisme · 03/02/2024 16:32

A long time ago I used to canvass for the Labour Party. I imagine other posters have too. It was drilled into us: never, ever get into arguments no matter what the provocation.

Boiledbeetle · 03/02/2024 16:24

You know those insane preachers that stand in town screaming "repent" and going on about the end of days, the ones that would make even the most devoted nun think "hell no"

That's the sort of vibes I'm getting on here but instead of repent its like we are being told if we don't vote Labour we will bring about the end of days!

I shall do what I do with the street preachers and raise an eyebrow and keep on walking!

EasternStandard · 03/02/2024 16:24

I can’t say I get the mooning over Starmer

He's been a top flight barrister so obviously very intelligent and able to understand detail.

Well you'd think a very intelligent person would known that 0% of women have penises, but Sir Keir says 1% of them do. So either he's not as clever as he seems, or he's a liar.

This.

And stupid or liar is not what I would call potential leader of the UK.

But yanno, you do you Adam.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/02/2024 16:11

I so often get the impression that many Labour members haven't quite managed to move beyond sixth form politics.

It's a shame, as they should be the ideal party to vote for, but they're just not.

EasternStandard · 03/02/2024 15:54

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 03/02/2024 15:19

Dear FWR,

if Adam makes you vote conservative, please take a ready prepared note to the polling station and drop it in the ballot box.

Perhaps, "I voted Tory to piss off AdamRyan. If you see this note, please post it on X"?

If they are Labour then it puts me off

Hectoring, insults whatever

DerekFaker · 03/02/2024 15:50

AdamRyan · 03/02/2024 15:33

I wholeheartedly agree. It's pretty transparent once you see it....

Whooosh!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/02/2024 15:13

Yes, more cynical people than me might wonder whether certain posters are on the payroll of the Conservatives central office.

I don’t think @AdamRyan is

They’re a member of the Labour party and campaigning with multiple links plus insults

Same old

Tyntesfield · 03/02/2024 15:38

"if they cause untold damage by voting how they like, like a petulant toddler"

Spare us from stupid people voting how they like - how absolutely dreadful.
<Clutches pearls>

I can only see stupidity in the form of insults tbf

FWR tends to be quite intelligent

I do, I think he's great.
He's been a top flight barrister so obviously very intelligent and able to understand detail.
He did loads to protect women and children when he was DPP.
He's done a great job turning the Labour Party around from the anti-semitic, momentum infested hot mess they were in 2019.
He's managed to align both the left and centre ends of Labour under his leadership so they all work together.

I would far rather see a prime minister with his track record and ability to lead than any of the last 3 prime ministers the conservatives have served up.

PronounssheRa · 03/02/2024 15:05

The hectoring, berating and insults remind me of the brexit referendum, and we all know what happened there

Adam, you need to accept that people don't all think the same way as you, might vote differently from you, will have different opinions of things important to you. But that is all part of a democracy. At the moment, all I suspect you are achieving is turning people further away from Labour.

Anyway. God forbid one points out people's illogical position. It makes them feel "stupid" and then it's not their fault if they cause untold damage by voting how they like, like a petulant toddler.

Toddlers can't vote.

Unlike your socks.

Can someone explain to me the chain of reasoning that connects:

@) seeing people question the Labour Party's definition of woman to

#) an individual poster assuming we'll question her when she uses the word woman to

$) the same poster feeling forced to use as many dehumanising neologisms as possible within one post, just to refer to women?

I didn't realise any of the posters here were anthropomorphic personifications of UK political parties.

ResisterRex · 03/02/2024 14:34

Why would defining "woman" send you to sleep? Is it boring for you Adam? It's absolutely crucial to us. Either you're a man or you're so detached from real life and intensely privileged that you live in a world where this does not matter to you. If it's boring, stop hectoring us over it. Go enjoy your privileged, detached life.

Boring indeed. First we're body parts, then like small children, then our concerns send you to sleep. How insulting.

Yeah, I too come onto FWR to be brow-beaten by Labour supporters....
<wanders off>

TempestTost · 03/02/2024 14:18

Does anyone actually believe that the LP (or any other party) can halve domestic violence?

Promises like that just make me raise my eyebrows.

Floisme · 03/02/2024 14:09

It's funny that I have no intention of voting Tory and yet cannot remember any Conservative supporter on this board ever trying to lecture me over that. The only posters I can recall hectoring, attacking, or trying to misrepresent or discredit me have been Labour / left of centre supporters.

That in itself will not influence my vote but it sure as hell doesn't tempt me back into the fold.
