There is a lot of concern on twitter over a set of flag illustrations on a pillar at London Bridge Station.

https://www.networkrail.co.uk/stories/london-bridge-station-celebrates-lgbt-history-month/

Sex Matters have now issued a formal complaint to the authorities about it see letter below.

We have written to Andrew Haines @networkrail and @LordPeterHendy about the intimidating political display at London Bridge station

You can make a complaint here https://communications-crm.custhelp.com/app/ask?var=complaint

This has resulted in the discovery that Shane Andrews, Network rail’s LGBT+ lead, who is also a scout leader (and a trustee of the Scouts), an independent police custody inspector, a school governor - used abusive sexist/homophobe slang all over his social media. He went on a huge deleting spree, but copies of his tweets are being shared widely.

I would really like every traveller who passes through London Bridge to be quizzed on which flags they can identify, aside from the rainbow one. I highly doubt more than about 5 people know what any of them are.

Thanks for this. I've complained. I go through LB v often. I hope this isn't going to ruin my day before it's begun.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 29/01/2024 13:42

I go into LBR quite often, and quite apart from the political and misogynistic aspects to this, which I have complained to Network Rail about, it offends me aesthetically. It's a lovely building carefully designed with a subtle colour palate. They stuck those monstrosities up in this place:

TRS apparently have no sense of humour, little intelligence and now it seems, no taste either.

FFS, it’s a flag. Get a life.

It's a big waste of money that could be better spent improving services.

Do people really need trains and platforms festooned in flags to feel 'safe' and 'included'? Really?

aname1234 · 29/01/2024 12:40

Complained!

Thanks

So let's put up the Nazi flag then? Anything else?

AlphariusOmegron · 29/01/2024 12:20

Done and complained (side note, ChatGPT is excellent and writing complaint letters)

And was awarded an MBE for services to diversity and to inclusion.

You couldn't make this stuff up. His twitter feed was full of words like skank, whore, tranny, slag as well as moaning that female staff weren't smiling at him, and bragging about how he takes surreptitious photos of young men using trains.

And we are the problem?

I suspect that Network Rail will have to be in damage control right now. As will the other organisations that he has roles with. And it is past time.

Let's put up a suffragette flag and see whether that's 'just a flag' then.

It's all too common. It's how they get onto the carousels of trustee, NED, boards and move from one feeding station appointment to another.

It cannot be any clearer in this man's posts. He absolutely seems to hate women yet has seemed to have risen to positions of influence all over the place. Particularly within the spheres of LGBT.

his tweet about looking forward to camping with his Lil scouts, when he has so little regard to safeguarding is worrying....

FFS, it’s a flag. Get a life.

Read by Agard:

"What’s that fluttering in a breeze?
It’s just a piece of cloth
that brings a nation to its knees.
…
What’s that flying across a field?
It’s just a piece of cloth
that will outlive the blood you bleed.

How can I possess such a cloth?
Just ask for a flag my friend.
Then blind your conscience to the end."

Maybe a bit off the point, but I do marvel at these people who are so lacking in an instinct for self-preservation that they will post offensive and sometimes incriminating stuff all over their social media. Why?

We all have lives thanks, and we want our children to be able to live their lives without being sterilised and having their breasts and genitals amputated in the name of a misogynistic men's rights movement. It's not 'just a flag'.

Aah, Network Rail that removed the "I ❤JKR" poster from one of their stations:

I mean , "FFS, it’s a poster. Get a life" 😂😂😂

If it's just a flag, what's the point of it? Why does it need to be put up in the first place?

This! Somehow I think it will very much not be “just a flag”

as for Mr Andrews, the problem is that so often in these organisation they ask for ‘volunteers’ to lead these pieces of work that no one else can be arsed with/give much of a toss about . Step forward the likes of SA using it as an opportunity to position themselves into places with influence.

IamRoyFuckingKent · 29/01/2024 11:12

I've complained. Well done. YY to wonder whether they'd be ok with a suffragette flag. Or ribbons?
