No surprise to anyone on here, I would guess. Those poor girls.

“I don't think she wrote the headline because, it seems, it hasn't stopped happening.”

There’s this tucked away in the regional news section of the BBC. Alleged PC attack on 6yo girl.

@TempestTost

Thanks that's exactly what I meant. I wasn't victim blaming.

Race was absolutely a factor in the crimes. The girls were targeted because they were white. Many have reported the abuse they received from the men was racially motivated. What is BS is that race was a factor in the failure to investigate the gangs. It’s basically the least bad option for the police to say ‘ oh we didn’t investigate cos we were scared’ rather than the truth which is they didn’t investigate because of a complete failure to recognise grooming, deeply ingrained misogyny and a failure to do their job. If the police are so scared of appearing racist why don’t they stop stop and search immediately? Why are Asian men over represented in the CJS?

Good post. If we're actually going to make meaningful efforts to address child abuse we do need to be able to deal with nuance and the idea that things can be true at the same time.

Was race the only reason this was swept under the carpet, clearly no, was it one factor (among others) for why some of those responsible did not do their jobs and let those girls be abused, yes as far as I can tell. (and I'd agree, probably not in terms of the police)

They need a proper marketing campaign aimed at teen girls warming them of dangers. Like the old 'Just Say No' or the AIDS campaign back in the 80s. More police going into schools to talk to girls

Or how about they just round up and arrest the disgusting men who are raping children? There are 96 of them free in Rochdale right now.

Edited

You can never get rid of all the predators. They exist everywhere and always have.

These men work by enticing the girls, who initially see them offering something that seems attractive. If you can make sure the girls know what their long game is you can potentially prevent a lot of them falling prey.

Besides, why wouldn't you teach girls - or any other young person - to recognize people who want to manipulate and abuse them?

Yeah whatever
"Feminists" saying openly racist things and blaming particular ethnicities for abuse of women when it suits their narrative, without evidence for their biased viewpoints. Then wondering why other feminists think GC spaces have become allied to right wing activists, and white supremacists. This thread is an absolute case in point.

Let's not talk about the structural misogyny and victim blaming. Or the chronic under funding of social services under the Conservatives. Or the longstanding economic policies that means the wealth is all in the south east and the North is skint. The over stretched, under funded police forces who know they can't do enough about sex offenders. The institutional misogyny of the police and the fact our legal system is stacked against female victims.

No, none of that is the problem. The problem is Muslim men and immigration. Angry

Were social services in Rotherham underfunded in 1997? Professor Jay’s report covers the years 1997-2013. Cons were only in power from 2010. And Rotherham councillors were nearly all Labour.

Could have guessed how this thread would end up from page 1 🙄

There is no evidence that race was a factor. What is a factor is structural misogyny, a culture of disbelieving victims and not supporting looked after children.

Louis Theroux recently interviewed Samantha Morton who grew up in care and they discuss a lot of factors relevant to this.

It completely baffles me how the police are called sexist and racist, apart from in this case when they are apparently scared of being called racist.

Men abuse vulnerable females, these girls were very vulnerable. It seems strange to md that people on a board all about the way women are abused are so happy to put forward the theory this particular case of abuse was racially motivated, as opposed to power motivated (as most sexual assault cases are).

Absolutely yes to that too obviously 👍🏻

Maybe if the police & social services are inept then the perpetrators could be named & shamed in the local press with a warning attached ‼️

It happened in Oxford too.

This is a 2020 BBC report on the outcome of the hideous grooming cases that had been unearthed in Oxford a decade or so earlier.

Many or most will be U.K. nationals. But I often think about the fact that most were likely to have wives and children at home whilst they were out all night gang raping children.

This always crosses my mind. What would their wives think 🤷🏻‍♀️

I did see a TikTok clip of an Asian man making fun of white men being unable to control their women thus leaving them fair game for Asian men to pick them up.

It's sad to hear about girls still being abused. It seems strange how some towns are having more issues than others.

What utter nonsense here Adam. Laughable in fact.

AdamRyan are* *you posting your bullshit takes in the hopea that people are only going to read your posts??? I can't understand why you're openly lying right here on the thread.

Sorry meant to quote @ResisterRex

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2024 20:19

And that's without the hugely inconvenient fact that lots of this began in the 90s and has carried on until now. So, through a whole raft of funding situations including when the public sector had more money than it knew what to do with.

This, exactly.

I wonder why it’s so prevalent in North West England?

It happened in Oxford too.

Yes, you had probably better Adam because your incorrect statements will be challenged and found wanting.

This.

Plus I find the notion that "under funding" somehow means rapists gonna rape, highly questionable. They could just not do that.
