Sharron Davies in the Times

@enchantedsquirrelwood I’m fully in agreement. I do have some sympathy for parkrun. They set up this lovely thing for people to do for free and have now been caught out in a situation which no-one could have predicted when they started out. I suspect that they are terrified of doing the right thing and consider the current criticism from GC athletes to be preferable to an unpredictable backlash from TRAs, particularly in the US and Canada, which might put their volunteers at risk - we’ve all seen what they are capable of.

No, I just meant that everyone keeps saying that parkrun is a non competitive community event so the results don't have to be fair.

I agree it IS a sporting event. Just not for the faster females, apparently.

Or indeed any female who doesn't like a male bodied person pushing them down the "female" results. But it is obviously more noticeable at the "pointy" end when a male bodied person gets a female course record.

@enchantedsquirrelwood well, I think even non-competitive sport counts as sport. Similarly for e.g. private music teachers, they get their enhanced DBS from their 'governing body' (the Musicians Union).

That's interesting, I didn't know that. That said, in the context of this debate, parkrun isn't a sporting activity, it's a non-competitive community event

It would depend on whether or not they's insulted his imaginary ladyfeelz.

Poor Mr Knibbs, I can’t imagine what it must be like knowing he only has 2 years of peace before that murderous prick is out.

Presumably the prison system will have helped this violent criminal cope with being told “no” and he will now be a constructive member of society?

@stealtheatingtunnocks they'll be out by 2026 at the latest (assuming they behaved themselves inside).

Interesting that UK Athletics voided all Jeska's results but parkrun have refused to do so. I wonder if it would be different if Jeska had stabbed a parkrun volunteer?

reading what that trans identifiying male did to what sounds like a very nice community minded man is chilling.

that prick is in a womens jail? That premeditating, murderous prick is housed with women? Fucking hell.

@enchantedsquirrelwood for sports, its only national governing bodies that can apply for an enhanced DBS AFAIK. I guess parkrun don't meet the criteria of a national governing body hence having to get UKA to do the ehanced DBS for the junior parkrun marshalls. All the DBS checks for cycling coaches and volunteers for example have to go through British Cycling.

No it's not. The fastest ever female parkrun is a 15:13 held by Ciara Mageean running at Belfast Victoria.

Jeska has a single female record (at Aberystwyth). That's one CR too many of course but should not be used to undermine Ciara's achievement.

Thanks for the reminder that they're guilty of attempted murder - got an 18 year sentence. They left Ralph Knibbs with life changing injuries - he had a stroke as a result of the attack:

Not sure about a women's prison but given the capture of the MoJ & prison service by the trans lobby, they probably are in the female estate.

I can't see tweets, are you able to tell us what it says or screenshot it?

Is this the lady who goes round various parkruns with "save womens sports" t-shirts on? I do hope they've not banned her!

He was.

Are they in a women's prison?

Just another point on the grass roots/non competitive issue - kids getting into parkrun/junior parkrun means they may join an athletics club and ultimately get good enough to represent GB.

But if girls get beaten by male bodied people, that won't happen, they'll lose interest.

Same goes for older women who might end up being good at Masters level.

I would have thought parkrun could organise its own DBS checks, after all charities and companies can.

They used to be affiliated as 5k races but then it was pointed out that they are not all officially measured and so they were affiliated as parkruns.

I don't actually know the exact relationship with UKA but at the moment the results appear on the Power of 10 and I want that to continue but suspect all the furore over the gender issue will mean it stops.

Murder, but for the Grace of Deity / surgeon...

Attempted murder, not murder. I'm not saying it's fine but accuracy matters imo.

And the women's "record" is held by a male born convicted murderer!

Yes, he carried out a savage, frenzied knife attack on an official who explained that he wasn't entitled to enter in the womens' fell running category.

I thought they were all timid, harmless accountants, in for fraud?

Ah.

So Park Run. Not competitive but it is competitive, and those two things can definitely exist in the same space, and that's a good thing.

And celebrating a male convicted murderer's wonderful self actualisation of his chosen identity by assisting him to use the women's category and just erasing any women who protest about this is a good thing too.

Yeah. Once you've bought into the alternative reality that some men are women because reasons? Then facts, reality, morality, ethics, your credibility and grips in general are things you have chosen to leave behind you. And the madness mounts up in your wake.

And the women's "record" is held by a male born convicted murderer! There seem to be no limits to their determination to "celebrate" the most dangerous of men.

Any sympathy I had for ParkRun has probably vanished. They seem to have erased a woman for WrongThink.

Good description of parkrun as have your cake an eat it.

It's a fun run to those that want motivation and the atmosphere. But it's competitive for those that want the timings recorded. And guess what, there's a hell of a lot of competitive women.

It's either one or the other. If parkrun want it to be a fun free for all then they need to stick by this and get rid of the results element. Because if males can compete then the results are not real.

Stop telling me what to do, you're not my real dad! I reply as I read otherwise I forget who I want to reply to, I'm easily distracted (ADHD)
But its always good to see someone who is willing to change their opinion in the face of new information so I'll forgive you for demanding I use Mumsnet by your rules if you stop expecting me to.

@enchantedsquirrelwood ParkRun’s relationship with UKA is for the purposes of having an approved body to sponsor enhanced DBS checks for volunteers I thought? Parkruns themselves aren’t UKA sanctioned races otherwise as you point out they would have to follow the UKA transgender rules.
