Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Liz Fraser’s actions speak louder than words. Earlier this year we asked the question, Is Liz Fraser truly helping all women or just herself? We concluded, just herself. What do you think?

Liz Fraser boldly proclaims her mission to help women lead their best lives, presenting herself as a parenting expert, novelist and travel writer with wanderlust.

However, this prompts questions about whether she actively monetises these claims, potentially leading vulnerable individuals astray.

When one positions themselves as an expert in the public domain, people reasonably expect scrutiny and dialogue regarding their views and actions.

People have raised concerns about her Substack subscription promises not being fulfilled, potentially breaching consumer protection laws. This ongoing discussion aims to safeguard women from potential exploitation by someone in a privileged position.

Liz Fraser’s privilege, including her race, class, attractiveness, financial support, education and freedom from financial burdens, has granted her a prominent voice. This discussion explores whether her privileged position overshadows the voices of marginalised women.

Recent revelations about her personal life, including alleged affairs with married men and hurtful actions towards their spouses, have raised ethical concerns about her character and credibility as an influencer.

To assess the validity of her recent posts, it’s crucial to separate her personal life from her public work. Her public work being anything she advocates for direct or indirect financial returns.

This discussion seeks to comprehend the objectivity and authenticity of her work in areas such as domestic violence, parenting, mental health, neurodiversity, travel, running and holistic well-being.

It focuses on her recent postings without mentioning ex-partners or children by name and aims to ensure that all women have a voice beyond Liz Fraser.

Your voice is valid. You deserve to be listened to.

The context has helped. However, the OP sounds like a tribunal and an invitation to heap opprobrium on someone. Almost like an author dishing out bad reviews for other authors (that recent case of the young wannabe author who did that).

I did recognise the name but see my own username as to why.

I couldn't begin to participate in this thread. It feels like an assault on the author rather than an appropriate scrutiny of safeguarding or the actions of the NCDV in appointing her as an ambassador. See other odd decisions about women ambassadors (UN Women UK). And, she's obviously relatable and people see her story as a redemptive arc.

“Those who know her and have been affected by her know. She’s a writer and broadcaster. BBC, ITV, The Times, Daily Mail, etc. She’s ambassador of the National Centre for Domestic Violence NCDV. She’s crowd funded several businesses but not launched them. The Latest, Edgeways Press. “

That does sound poor.
In what way are people ‘affected’ by her?

Generally people who are arseholes get found out eventually. I would just recognise they are a hypocrite and stop engaging, but obviously that’s easier for people who haven’t been impacted.

Is she influencing people to do things that are bad for them?

I’m aware of direct influencers who are very unwell- that worries me. When people encourage others to be a fruitarian for example.

@WorkingItOutAsIGo you could apply this principle to yourself. Why did you comment?

@pickledandpuzzled if I could edit the intro I would, but I can’t. I wish I could because I’m going to get abuse all day now!

She wrote this book and has traded off in for the past few years. It’s very loosely the truth. Very loosely.

What’s with the swearing you are as bad as her she likes the f word

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 26/12/2023 11:03

Never heard of her. If you care this much about someone you don’t like perhaps there are better things you could be doing with your life?

pickledandpuzzled · 26/12/2023 11:02

Oh ok, lots of previous threads.

Can you just summarise who she is and why it matters what she thinks or does?

pickledandpuzzled · 26/12/2023 11:01

The thing is, @Variedviews , you open the thread as though it’s about someone really significant. You make serious accusations about them, as though you hold them to a high standard because they are a role model.

Without the context of who they are it’s hard to have an opinion.

It sounds serious , but if her influence is so limited then is it really serious?

@AlisonDonut, as mentioned to @BettyFilous, if you don’t know her then there is no need to concern yourself. You seem rather angry today. Can I help?

Variedviews · 26/12/2023 10:56

@BettyFilous if you’ve not heard of her this is of no interest to you I guess. There are lots of other threads to follow. And yes, I’m invested in this. Feel free to ask me any questions.

AlisonDonut · 26/12/2023 10:55

Your dissertation needs an introduction to explain who the fuck Liz Fraser is.

BettyFilous · 26/12/2023 10:52

Never heard of her. You seem quite invested OP.
