Tory deputy chair Rachel Maclean accused of transphobic remarks www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-67650988

Harsh and rude, but not actually untrue. If the person only started transitioning last year, they won't have a GRC yet, so will be classed as legally male, surely?

Well said Rachel. Telling the truth is not gaslighting. I don’t think he’s going to be that much of a threat come the GE!

And on a side note, yes, why are there so many men in dresses with v dodgy behaviours in the Green Party? And why have they so little interest in the environment?

I have a theory, based on the the Danish political drama Borgen, in which the former Danish PM decides to found a new political party. The idea is really popular with the public; however, initially, when the party calls for people to join and help fight the election, it attracts tons of people who see this new party as a vehicle for their particular obsession/hobby horse. These new members attempt to force the party to adopt their views as official policy (but are successfully fought off).

I think the resurgence of interest in environmental politics has caused something like this to happen in Green parties - lots of donations and lots of new people joining who aren’t strongly interested in environmentalism but see the Green parties as a good vehicle for advancing their particular hobby horse and, in each country, the Greens failed to successfully stick to their core principles and have been taken over.

West Mercia Police said the original post on X had been reported, but the force was not treating it as a crime.

Oh do fuck off. A sensible decision by the police for once but I bet they recorded it in their big book of "non crime hate incidents".

Yep. Surely they’re a straight man in a dress. As far as I understand it, lesbians don’t have penises but hey I’m old and obviously out of touch 🤷‍♀️

I have been informed on MN by activists that to say this as a lesbian makes me 'homophobic'.... which is a highly interesting exploitation of that word. And that not being willing to validate a man with my body should he express a belief in an internal identity different to his external reality, makes me a 'sexual racist'.

To which my response is 😂

Yeah, that's not fucked up at all!!!!

Good grief.

It's always there, isn't it? Always. It's not the occasional one, it's always.

It's things like this that make the tories look more attractive.

I know! Are the Greens secretly on the side of the Conservatives?!

frazzled1 · 08/12/2023 15:20

Hmm I see....so.... womanhood = red wig + green frock, sorted! No need to bother with sexism, periods, pregnancy, breastfeeding, PCOS, mansplaining, menopause etc etc. Silly old me eh.

BlueBrush · 08/12/2023 15:17

"It's dog whistling of the finest. It's gaslighting. It does have an impact on people."

How is it gaslighting? Does Melissa think that Rachel is manipulating her constituents into questioning their sanity by referring to Melissa as a man, because Melissa is so clearly a woman, and any rational person can see that Melissa is a woman (because clothes etc.), so calling her a man is some kind of psychological manipulation? I don't get it.

🤔Or is it just that people throw expressions like "dog whistle" and "gas lighting" around when they don't like what someone is saying but are incapabale of coming up with a proper argument against it.

The Lesbians be falling over themselves to get a date with "her" 😉

Just a guess but I think he might be going back unwrapped.

Datun · 08/12/2023 15:11

Dear God. How have the Greens come to this? They're an absolute laughing stock.

And Poulton's bio just says they're a lesbian, a proud woman, and bangs on about all equality and diversity they're gonna do

Not a single bloody Green thing in it.

pickledandpuzzled · 08/12/2023 15:08

Why that massive wide grin, always? Is that what they expect to see? No wonder they keep telling us to ‘smile, love’.

and this bit- explaining she had been born a biological man before beginning her transitioning last year- seems to suggest Melissa transitioned soon after being born. Sort of leaves out what looks like about at least 40 years lived experience as a man.

PatatiPatatras · 08/12/2023 14:49

Mrs Maclean was approached for comment and...

Me thinks this was just a one sided article.

SinnerBoy · 08/12/2023 14:42

Well, it seems that the Police have actually not only learned some lessons, but taken them onboard and applied them. They said that a complaint had been made about Rachel Maclean's Twitter post, but that no action had been taken, because there was no crime.

Melissa must be absolutely fuming! 😀

Rightsraptor · 08/12/2023 14:36

So this person is a Green Party candidate (no surprise there) and the 2022 photo shows him in a garden with what looks like a discarded mattress.

Now, he could have been using that dumped mattress to say 'see what disgusting things people deposit around the place! We, the Green Party, promise to sort this shit out'.

But I somehow don't think that's what's going on there.

Rightsraptor · 08/12/2023 14:30

Such an uncanny resemblance to Tubs, they could be twins.

WickedSerious · 08/12/2023 14:23

stomachameleon · 08/12/2023 14:16

It's tubs :)

I hope no one looks up his skirt.

DinoDays · 08/12/2023 13:58

Well! Speechless I am! Speechless!

Oh no,it's a wig.

The online criticism of Miss Poulton centred on a video, during which she gave her support to the 50:50 Parliament campaign, an initiative that aims to increase female representation in the House of Commons

🙄

UtopiaPlanitia · 08/12/2023 14:09

nauticant · 08/12/2023 14:04

That’s actually quite horrifyingly stalkerish behaviour on his part 😳

SamW98 · 08/12/2023 14:09

nauticant · 08/12/2023 14:04

Wow - that’s seriously creepy. But hey nothing to see here just a lady doing lady things apparently 🤷‍♀️

Though only just over a year ago, he’s referring to himself as Mattie Viner so this is a quick transition
