An article on the cost of the ad campaign (£50k) and two women who suffered health issues after going through the donation procedure.

'Ms Gibson [of Surrogacy Concern] added: "Egg retrieval has proven fatal to at least two women in the UK, and shouldn't be being advertised by a national government at public expense. The adverts run by the Scottish Government for egg and sperm donors don't list side effects or health risks. Women's eggs are not commodities to be harvested and shared out amongst the public.
"Our issue is treating all women's bodies like they're a resource and treating eggs as a commodity to be taken from them."'

SNP Government 'shock' campaigners with £50k spend on egg retrieval adverts

Exclusive: Campaigners highlighted the cost in light of 'severe budget constraints' while women highlighted their traumatic experiences undergoing the risky procedure

@TempestTost the commodification of women's bodies is not the same as for men.
There is no risk to life, fertility or long-term health from a man wanking into a cup! There are for women. Eggs are not replaceable, harvesting them not only reduces a women's chances of conseving naturally, its painfully invasive and requires the use of drugs which causes 1/4 of all women who take them to suffer from over stimulation of her ovires but it also kills between 2 and 14% (depending on whose stats you believe).
So, it's not the same, and quite frankly your whataboutery of men in this situation is very telling

I don't know why snp would campaign for this why is it political? Egg donation is a thousand, no a million times more risky than a man producing sperm!

Why are the SNP paying for this ad campaign? What’s their ulterior motive? Seems very odd.

TempestTost · 07/12/2023 01:02

There seem to be two issues here, the health effects, and the commodification element.

The latter, presumably, will also apply to sperm donation? And to my mind, it's not just commodification of adult bodies, it's commodification of children.

I know someone who was a donor for her sister when she was early 20s. She has suffered with an abnormal menstrual cycle ever since (now late 30s).

Shocking disregard for the potential serious health risks with egg stimulation and retrieval. Reckless to group it with sperm donation.
