This was even a news item just now on the Radio 3 news.
Why they can't just say that no man no matter how we identifies should ever be placed in a women's prison, I don't know.

New prison rules on housing trans inmates

Those convicted of violent offences will not be eligible to switch prison after changing gender but critics say loophole remains

Pauline McNeil Lab asked Angela Constance SNP why the SPS had suddenly decided it is against GDPR to record how many trans identified prisoners are held and where. She asked why the Daily Record should know more about what is going than elected representatives. Angela Constance answered, to effect, that they are now following Stonewall Law.

Of course erasing data has been used to good effect by small 'progressive' countries like Belgium, where there is no way of knowing what the impact of self id for convicts has been.

Sadly, yes. It's quite easy to learn, just turn your brain off.

chose to focus on the research undertaken by SPS which indicates that female prisoners are 'kind and accomodating to transgender prisoners'.

Hmm. That's an interesting way of saying "... cowed and frightened into appeasing trans prisoners, to try to avoid assaults."

Ah, I see you are bilingual in Righteousness!

What if the violent men/transwoman was violent to another man/transwoman...

FFS why are these people to desperate to be able to lock women up with men, it's utterly baffling.

Russell Findlay has been good on this I hope he keeps pushing (& I'm sure he will as public opinion is on his side!)

Froodwithatowel · 11/01/2024 19:30

Indeed. They've been kind and accommodating to the point of providing rape experiences to these troubled men.

Edit - Medhurst, not Medcalfe

Waitwhat23 · 11/01/2024 19:13

Teresa Medcalfe, on being asked by Sharon Downey today about whether putting violent males into the female prison estate might be a bit unfair on the female prisoners already incarcerated there (particularly given that they are the actual vulnerable party in this instance) chose to focus on the research undertaken by SPS which indicates that female prisoners are 'kind and accomodating to transgender prisoners'.

I'm sure that the SPS's research, undertaken by the SPS, and not released to the general public showed that female prisoners 'agreed' when asked by SPS whether they thought they should be kind to male prisoners.

'Be kind' to violent male offenders in women's prisons. It fucking boggles the mind.

I think this is a report on the meeting earlier today

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/01/11/transwomen-criminals-prisons-scotland-theresa-medhurst/

https://archive.ph/qX2ge

Considering the number of sexual offences against women that are unrecorded and definitely unprosecuted, the fact that a man is, well a man but, violent should preclude him from being locked up with vulnerable women.

Any male prisoner declaring themselves a woman while in prison would be “taken seriously”, Ms Medhurst said.

butany woman saying she was terrified of being locked up with a man would be, not ignored, but probably put on a punishment detail.

These people, I don't know how they sleep at night.

Violent trans women criminals could still be sent to female jails, says Scottish prisons boss

New policy means male-bodied prisoners who claim they wish to live as women would have an easier path to women’s estate if victims were men

Apparently so.

(from telegraph) Scottish Prison Service unveils policy that permits transfer to female jails if offenders do not pose ‘an unacceptable risk of harm’

So there's an acceptable risk of harm?

Hopefully the post with the archived version will be unhidden. It's available on the usual archive sites.

Bravo Blackburn, Murray and Mckenzie as usual.

It's repulsive.

Although as they intend to provide men with a 'woman' gender identity with props and resources of the 'same gender identity' I wonder if women will be offered the opportunity for consent by being asked if they have a gender identity, whether it's the same as the male criminals being foisted on them, or whether they are just believers in biological sex being a fixed fact.

IcakethereforeIam · 08/01/2024 16:57

The Telegraph on it again today

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/01/08/scotland-new-trans-prisons-rules-are-sexist-say-campaigners/

It has been archived. Sorry, forgot to copy the link. It's all about the men, trans or purporting to be. Nothing about the welfare of the confined women. The policy is explicitly saying they are just objects to be used to validate the men.

I mean we all know that's how trans ideology see women (even trans identified women and girls are usually forgotten except as leverage to forward the interests of men). It's rarely stated so baldly though.

New rules to protect women from trans predators in prison ‘are even worse than before’

Campaigners condemn the latest policy in Scotland as sexist and more dangerous than guidelines introduced in wake of Isla Bryson scandal

I wish Ian Acheson was still in the Home Office.

JellySaurus · 13/12/2023 18:09

Further fears were raised about trans criminals “initiating coercive relationships, and the risk of pregnancy with non-transgender women.”

There are two sorts of 'trans criminals' housed in women's prisons. How can we possibly know to which sort the article refers?

'Non-transgender women'? Words fail me.

Seems a rewrite is needed:

Further fears were raised about male criminals “initiating coercive relationships, and the risk of pregnancy with women.”

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 13/12/2023 17:12

You could equally that jumping out of a plane wearing a parachute is dangerous, so you might as well jump without one.

MrsTwatInAHat · 13/12/2023 17:06

It's also basically saying "well if you're at a slight risk - might as well be put at a lor more risk eh?"

By the exact same argument, TW should be in male prisons not only because they're male, but because women can attack them just like men can.

ArthurbellaScott · 13/12/2023 15:50

the idea that the risks from women and from men are in any way comparable is risible.

ArthurbellaScott · 13/12/2023 15:50

Well, also because the risks are so massively skewed. Not only are women far less likely to be violent, they are almost never sexually assaulting people, and even the tiny proportion who are/do, are not going to have the height/weight/strength advantages that men do, and no woman is going to be able to impregnate another woman.

MrsTwatInAHat · 13/12/2023 14:36

Exactly. The whole "well women can be mean to other women too" argument is so weak. If women pose just as much danger to women as men do, why sre there women's prisons, toilets etc in the first place? Because it makes a difference to women's safety, dignity and peace of mind - a big difference. If we're supposed to care about a TW's hurt feelings about being misgendered or put in the right prison for their sex, we should care as much about safety, dignity and peace of mind for women. Oh and not gaslighting them and forcing them to lie.

Froodwithatowel · 13/12/2023 12:41

It's another version of the 'well you're going to get raped anyway, so why bother clinging on to the protections of a single sex space?' argument.

Other women being unpleasant to vulnerable women doesn't equal it being ok to send male criminals, particularly sex offending male criminals, in to use women prisoners as therapy animals. To anyone with half a grain of sanity still remaining, and who is not sufficiently sexist that the Tudors would think they were a bit backward.
