Lady Ballers trailer.

Upcoming US comedy about men invading women's sport. Features Riley Gaines.

Yep, that's the way to do it: make the whole damn thing a laughing-stock.

To me people who won’t watch a movie/read a book/attend an event because someone they don’t agree with is involved are saying “I don’t want ALL the information. I’m happy to form my views without knowing as much as I can and as such move through life with underdeveloped critical thinking skills and I don’t care who knows it.” I would be embarrassed to admit to being such a person. At the same level as a child refusing to eat something because another kid told them it was nasty.

turbonerd · 01/12/2023 15:20

Dash it all @NotBadConsidering 😄
now mr Cruz will probably turn out to be the best bit of the whole film!

Fine, I amend that to that Ted Cruz sometimes does and sometimes does not come off well 😎

NotBadConsidering · 30/11/2023 20:47

TED Cruz never comes off well

Never? Ever ever ever?! Of course he often doesn’t come across well but never? Watch this clip. I think he comes across very well, much better than the person after Riley Gaines he interviews. But who would want to be on HIS side in this particular debate instead of hers eh?

TED Cruz never comes off well, but we must all remember a certain mr Trump’s appearance in the smash hit Home Alone 2

turbonerd · 30/11/2023 20:26

Have now seen the actual trailer of the film that is the topic of this thread and it looks very funny.
I haven’t seen Bridesmaids, and now never will, because this one looks much much much funnier!
Slick production and good gags - and the Mr Mulvaney spoof was adorable 😄

OkayScooby · 30/11/2023 18:57

Pleased to see this. Hopefully more will dare to follow. And it does look as though it will be funny 😁 .

GailBlancheViola · 30/11/2023 18:50

Looks like a full on Mulvaney piss take by one of the characters.

MalagaNights · 30/11/2023 18:35

If you are not on the same side as Ted Cruz 'in this' then you do not support a ban on men in women's sports, as that's the side he's on.

If not, you and Ted Cruz agree, get over it.

TheABC · 30/11/2023 18:30

Is it wrong that I was oogling his body in the swimsuit? Nice arms and er, prominent nipples.

Anecdotally, I've found that people who can take the piss out of themselves (and others) tend to be a lot more moderate and reflective than any of the fanatics on either side. I 'll be watching the fallout from this with interest.

OldCrone · 30/11/2023 18:20

In what way do you think that watching a film would put you "on the same side" as someone who briefly appeared in it?

It probably is like reading something from the Times or the Daily Mail, I reckon. Someone reading or watching media that they don't agree with automatically makes some people align with people they don't agree with. or something.... maybe it makes people's heads explode. Who knows.

Helleofabore · 30/11/2023 18:25

So, people won't watch a video because Ted Cruz is in it? Well, that is nothing new. We hear all the time from people who also refuse to read something because it comes from 'the wrong media' or is written by 'someone they disagree with'. It never makes a sound or reasoned argument but that is fine.

This looks like it is more entertainment that might make some people think rather than a documentary. And if it makes a huge group of the public rethink their stance, then that is great. The more avenues of communication the better in this case. Because the female athletes who are desperately attempting to get heard and get their message out are being assaulted, being abused and threatened at worst. At the very least they are being constantly shamed by people who won't read something because someone they disagree with wrote it, or because it is has been published by a media company that they don't align with.

If these men want to make this video, then they can have at it. Just because some of them have politics or beliefs that I don't agree with doesn't mean that I don't agree with them that male people should not be included in the female category of sport. And I will watch it so that I can make an informed opinion on it.

I found this last week, I think it completely hits the mark.

That video had me spitting my tea out when I first saw it 😄
An instant Classic!

OldCrone · 30/11/2023 16:42

What do you think they meant by "Don't want to be on his side in all this"?

That they won't be watching the film.

OldCrone · 30/11/2023 16:42

Flickersy · 30/11/2023 16:36

Don't be ridiculous, PP said nothing of the sort.

I won't be watching because I don't want to give further credence to people like Ben Shapiro and Matt Walsh, and sites like the Daily Wire.

That doesn't mean I "support men in women's sport".

NotBadConsidering · 28/11/2023 22:51

So you support men in women’s sport because Ted Cruz opposes men in women’s sport? How pathetic.

TempestTost · 29/11/2023 10:37

I think this is a really interesting phenomena.

Based on the trailer it might be kind of a one-joke film, but it's shot as well as your average comedy-sport Hollywood film.

I do think, like someone up-thread said, that this thing where there is a whole alternate film scene is really interesting. There's already a kind of alternate Christian movie industry, but I suspect if you had a less overtly religious, slightly better quality product, it could really make a shed-load of money. And it wouldn't be just religious people watching, there is a huge swathe of Americans who are fed up with movies and tv that seem to be so politisized.

Sound of Freedom already showed that a movie without that can go right to the top. Though why a film about child trafficking should be considered a no-go in Hollywood is something to ponder.

Agree... Ted Cruz breathes air and eats food. I'm really sorry, but you're going to have to give up both with that level of purity spiral...

NotBadConsidering · 28/11/2023 22:51

Dabralor · 28/11/2023 12:47

It looks a bit shit tbh. And Ted Cruz makes a cameo so I'm out. Don't want to be on his side in all this.

He is brilliant on this. His latest video takes the piss out of the American navy adverts. Very inclusive.

As for the film coming out, cannot wait. Tempted to pay or whatever daily wire to get access. It looks hilarious.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/11/2023 21:04

I guess that's an unexpected upside of being cancelled. If you survive it, what more can they do to you?

It is. I wish more people would hold their nerve and not grovel pathetically in the vain hope of being rehabilitated. These people don't forget or forgive, once you've sinned. Better to stick two fingers up to them once and for all and deal with the fallout.
