Is Sam Smith straight? I thought he was a gay man ...

Why is that relevant though?

Goodness me, my post was deleted for telling the truth about a pop star.

And I didn't even refer to him as fat

šŸ˜‚I think I know who you're referring to. Let me guess, he's like a modern day Varys from GOT?

Indeed ...

HoneyButterPopcorn · 26/11/2023 21:44

Er. Well. If the hat fits…

No, you referred to him as a gay man having a hissy fit.

5 men, 5 women --> sexist, transphobic, biphobic

10 men, 0 women --> teething issues

Majority men, more than 0 women --> diversity at last.

Magic, I believe it's magic.

TempestTost · 25/11/2023 14:40

difference, nor deference, lol.

TempestTost · 25/11/2023 14:38

I don't even really think it's just about a leg up for woman. I don't think it's always easy to compare male and female performances. Of course you can, but sometimes too much deference makes it harder to rank things.

Not that I have much time for awards stuff anyway, these days I always end up thinking, is this really the best we produce?

FarEast · 25/11/2023 14:20

It was indeed totally predictable so I am afraid I have absolutely zero sympathy.

Except I have a LOT of sympathy for all the terrific women musicians. I don't keep up with the day-to-day of pop/rock music, but the lead singer for London Grammar is an amazing vocal artist. And what about Roisin Murphy, whose new album soared up the charts?

Froodwithatowel · 25/11/2023 11:26

One bloke in a snit destroyed all women's representation overnight.

Anyone still clinging to the hope that women's equality is a long ago achieved thing?

It was nice that Styles mentioned the topic. It would have been more useful if he mentioned women and then refused to accept/keep the award until women were given equal treatment again by the Brit Awards.

I hadn't actually thought of that but I agree, he won three others that night anyway.

I did like that Harry Styles dedicated his award to 5 women who could have been nominated.

Did he? Oh, good for him

And with all open categories he STILL didn’t get a gong.

Categories themselves allow for diversity. That’s the actual point of them. So having a female and male category IS diversity.

When are you wims gonna realise that diversity is for penis owners. There's nothing for you here!

I utterly loved Harry Styles for mentioning 5 women in his acceptance speech.

ChateauMargaux · 24/11/2023 21:55

Excuse my bluntness but fuck that.. does Harry Styles really think it's a fair competition ...and he has won? he should have handed it back.

It is so depressing that we are not even an 'also ran'.

It's a man's world.. and when the protections are removed.. the veneer of equality is also removed and the truth is revealed... it was a ruse ... when left to their own devices.. men see no value in women.

This is what it's like living on Planet Stonewall. Useful idiots everywhere.

UtopiaPlanitia · 24/11/2023 14:44

Isn’t it awful that after decades of categories created for women to allow them equal access to recognition and awards, when those categories are removed things just revert to celebrating men. Hasn’t there been any change in how society views female artists? After years of ā€˜celebrating female empowerment' in the music business we find out that it was all a marketing gimmick and no-one really believed in it.

ArthurbellaScott · 24/11/2023 13:44

Loving our new diverse and inclusive landscape in the arts. So women. Much equal.

SaturdayGiraffe · 24/11/2023 13:24

Surely it’s all rigged anyway.
