Making it mandatory to tell parents would worry me. I agree that they should know in the vast majority of cases but some children are at risk of abuse if their parents find out they want to change their gender identity.

Shouldn't there be room for discretion if teachers feel like telling parents puts the child at risk of harm?

Following for it again.

”PUPILS should be allowed to identify as the opposite sex only in very limited circumstances”

Sovereign is he who makes the exception.

Now in reality, in practice, who will decide what these “very limited circumstances” are?

EasternStandard · 21/11/2023 20:30

This sounds good though?

I mean pretty much what is needed

WarriorN · 21/11/2023 20:30

Yes I'm furious too.

Just wish this had been in place before. So many children lied to and confused by progressive teachers. I am so angry.

Yes, agree with pp, I'm taking nothing for granted until something is actually published by the government.

Finally - really?

Given how many approved leaks have been given to the DM or the DT to test the water, I'll believe it when they publish it.

The Government is probably waiting to see what Stonewall says in response and how many Tory MPs back them (Stonewall).

Yep! I'll believe it when I actually see it! That article is still a little too vague for my likening.

However, if it is true... About bloody time!

It is due to go to ‘write-round’ for other Cabinet ministers to agree on soon and will finally see the light of day before schools break up for Christmas.

I know we should be jubilant, but I'm just so annoyed that it ever got to this. Who are these people that think it's OK to do this to children ffs.

WarriorN · 21/11/2023 19:48

Finally!

"Headteachers will be told to abide by existing laws including the Equality Act and must keep boys' and girls' toilets, changing rooms and sports separate."

Excellent.

"PUPILS should be allowed to identify as the opposite sex only in very limited circumstances, schools will be told under strict new rules.

Long-overdue transgender guidance will establish a ‘presumption against’ young people changing their names, pronouns and uniforms in classrooms, the Mail can reveal today.

It will also ensure that parents are informed if their children tell staff they want to change their gender identity because many schools are keeping them in the dark.

Headteachers will be told to abide by existing laws including the Equality Act and must keep boys’ and girls’ toilets, changing rooms and sports separate."
