Women physically (many middle aged and older) attacked by transactivists in Portland.

Multiple women have been injured following an attack by men in Portland after women organized a WDI meeting at a county library. I'm absolutely disgusted that the police didn't arrive to protect these women's First Amendment rights to freedom of speech (though not at all surprised because in many US cities, the police don't care/are understaffed/overworked/dealing with gun violence). https://twitter.com/WDI_USA

I lived in Portland for a few years about 20 years ago and it was honestly the most fabulous place to live back then. It's so depressing what happened to it. Most of my friends have left the city now.

WickedSerious · 20/11/2023 13:19

Portland is fucked.

Whatelsecangowrongnow · 20/11/2023 10:28

Men everywhere are rejoicing in the new opportunities to gaslight, groom and assault women and children.

Rightsraptor · 20/11/2023 10:02

I read elsewhere that Oregon is considering an about turn on its 'liberal' (insane, imho) drug policy, because it's a disaster. It seems to me this is all part & parcel of the same thing.

Helleofabore · 20/11/2023 09:49

The footage I have seen is just horrific. And the old favourite of ‘cream pie’ seems to have been thrown again.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/11/2023 09:34

Was just looking at some reports on this on Twitter, as I still think of it. What an utter disgrace. I can't believe the majority of the US population would support or be indifferent to violent attacks against women, especially older women, on the streets of a major city, carried out in the main by males, simply because the women wanted to meet to discuss male violence and threats to women's rights. So why aren't the populace speaking out?

From what I can gather, Portland is a dystopic hellhole. There is no way I'd even consider doing what they did today, there is no system there any more. Certainly no police protection.

This tallies with the footage I've seen of Portland. The drug use, homelessness and gun violence appears to be out of control. The police do nothing.

I'm sure some people will claim that only 'part' of Portland is like that, but given the online videos I've seen, there's no way I'd set foot in that city.

Ugh,those poor women. We were in Oregon fairly recently and we're planning to visit Portland, but decided against it at the last minute. Probably a wise decision,I wouldn't want my teenage daughters in a city that fails to protect women.

Christ. I hope all the women are okay.

Right Side of History my arse.

I saw some fairly jubilant tweets (or whatever they're called now) earlier. So they're definitely not sorry.

I meant only specifically what I said and nothing about the other details. I won't take part in any discussion disparaging trans persons. I was merely correcting the parts I mentioned.

Are you saying that this was 'trans' people attacking the women?

How do you know this, and is this not linking 'trans' people with violence against women?

I'd suggest that is quite disparaging of 'trans' people in itself.

This is horrific, what brave women. The assailants are smart if they are attacking the cameras. For their violence to shock the nation it would probably need to be filmed, so they wear masks and steal or smash cameras. Evil.

Hmmm, does that mean it is only a crime depending on who the perpetrator is? Justice would be a casualty to such cronyism.

Your original comment was as clear as mud, your update even more pointless.

Igneococcus · 20/11/2023 06:41

No it's not in many cities, it's mainly just Portland where they are purposefully underfunded.

Isn't that what Antifa, BLM et al are demanding, to defund the police? It's going really well, isn't it?

whatchagonnado · 20/11/2023 06:28

Very alarming

Huh? That’s exactly my question - I don’t understand what you mean, could you clarify? If you mean exactly what you say could you help us out to understand it?
I never mentioned trans people as hellebore states, my question only refers to the police, and women being attacked (by anyone). I don’t know why you mention trans people.

Helleofabore · 20/11/2023 03:46

Well done that library too for remaining impartial and it seems they were determined to allow the event to continue despite their premises being attacked and, I believe, a window broken prior to any woman arriving. Just for adhering to the policy to allow freedom of speech for all.

I had read that the women were very scared because the violent protestors knew where they were staying overnight.

I hope all the women are ok. The attacks sound brutal..

Who is disparaging trans people? Codlingmoth’s post certainly didn’t. Have you been to a WDI event or are you doing what you seemed to accuse others of and made judgement from getting your news from social media? Because that would be rather hypocritical, wouldn’t it?

Helleofabore · 20/11/2023 03:23

It was Portland that the women cancelled a rally a couple of years ago and Jeanne Hoch (likely misspelled, sorry) and other women were attacked? Cream pied in the face, if I remember correctly?

That was the event before the Tacoma one in Seattle where the students decided to come and scream at women, spray silly string and broke a woman’s hand and then followed and surrounded women as the women were leaving. There was no Tacoma police presence either iirc.

This event sounded horrific. The women had even booked a venue so they were not in the open this time. The situation there does sound dystopian.

I’ve read this a few times trying to work out what you mean. Do you mean 1. That’s it’s great cops don’t turn up when women are being attacked? Or 2. Do you mean that cops are generally violent, biased and out of control across the US so sympathies to the women attacked but they do not want cops coming to ‘help’ and are safer that way anyway? or 3. Something else?
Completely genuine, I have no idea which way to take this response and it would be useful to clarify :)

No it's not in many cities, it's mainly just Portland where they are purposefully underfunded. It's a hub of progress there, in the middle of a dumpster fire of a nation collapsing. Nowhere in the US do cops not care. It's quite the opposite but it's not "caring" either way, it's control gained by violence. I'm not sure where you're getting your information from (Twitter!?) but the media is not your friend in gaining insight into this. I live here btw.

Possibly, if a business or building installed their own. But, we don't have the CCTV-wide surveillance here like in other countries - it depends on the individual. The attack SHOULD make the local news, but I'm not holding my breath.
