Whereas Steph's credentials are - what, exactly?

I think I read somewhere (possibly around the time Steph was leading protests in which Steph's pals called women cunts and told them to suck lady-dick) that before transitioning shortly before turning 60, Steph was a hairdresser and ran beauty salons. I've had several rather creepy male hairdressers over the years. Couldn't understand why they freaked me. Beginning to get an inkling.

AIstolemylunch · 15/11/2023 21:12

I think they were referring to 29 actual men who apparently got migrating tumours outside their organs due to taking too much estrogen (for prostate cancer), having liver cirhosis which also fucks with your hormones or being very, very fat, ditto. These tumours form from epithelial cells somewhat similar, in terms of cell type, to the cells lining the edometrium aka the inner lining of a uterus, an organ unique to women. Clue's in the name of course, as endometriosis refers to cells migrating inappropriately from a woman's uterus, not some obscure hormonal problem that affects a tiny, tiny amount of unlucky men, as opposed to millions of actual women.

Of course it wont be long before larping men who have been on wrong sex estrogen for years start claiming to have it and the 29 will mysterioulsy rocket to 2.9 million transwomen have endometriosis as well. I mean, who knows, maybe they will actually a form of endometriosis around their prostates from taking too much estrogen, who knows.

donquixotedelamancha · 15/11/2023 21:05

I don't understand 29 men known to suffer from endometriosis. Does he mean 29 women identifying as men suffer from endometriosis?

29 actual men (in total, ever, across the whole world) suffer from cases that are (more or less) endometriosis becuase they have DSDs which have caused uterus wall type cell development without having a womb or other plumbing.

My mind is boggled

That Jodie isn't as completely stupid as she seems getting funding for a PHD in that GUFF. It really is what the world needs isn't it ? Meanwhile her and the delightful "Steph" can get exposure in the broadsheets and WH and no doubt waste everyone's time all expense's paid. Who's fooling who?

donquixotedelamancha · 15/11/2023 20:48

I think Jodie Hughes (the chairwoman who founded the charity) came across worse than Steph. She seemed incensed that EM described Endometriosis in factual, woman-centric terms.

Another hard lesson that a lot of the people pushing the elimination of 'woman' as a concept from language, healthcare, public policy and academia are themselves women and feminists.

Pokinganose · 15/11/2023 20:43

Heard this as I was driving today. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! What us the world coming to when we can't even have a biological woman in charge of a womens charity that deals with biological womens problems. Makes my blood boil. Men still getting involved with womens issues even if they are trans.

I think I agree that you don't have to be a person with that lived experience to be a CEO of a charity. Steph's example was the CEO of shelter doesn't have to live in a tent.

But then, the CEO of shelter isn't trying to redefine being homeless so that it encompasses people who do, in fact, own a three bedroom semi..... and then trying to centre those people instead of those who might live in a tent.....

There's also the fact that the CEO of Shelter came to that role with lots of credible experience within the charitable sector, and had previously been CEO of Women's Aid.

Whereas Steph's credentials are - what, exactly?

It was interesting that the CEO pushed two or three hard questions onto Jodie to answer (framed in such a kind and deferential manner) rather than CEOing up and answering them CEOs-self. What a cunning, mean, coward.
I think Jodie is being duped.
Isn't it unusual to have 2 interviewees on Woman's hour? I bet the CEO was insistent on Jodie coming along to support.

Then Jodie, the endo specialist, says, in a voice of almost hysterical exasperation, 'We need to move away from the gynaecological side of things...'

Sorry, but an endo specialist said this?

May as well have added the words ". . . and centre the penis".

It’s all a bit Frank Mackey in Magnolia, isn’t it?

AIstolemylunch · 15/11/2023 19:58

That interview is hilarious! Both Steph and the founder sound really, er, not very bright. I really wonder what her PhD is in? It can't be anything medical/scientific can it.

29! you can almost hear Emma saying wtaf! in her head :)

EarthSight · 15/11/2023 19:55

Just imagine working for that organisation as a woman 😥

CriticalCondition · 15/11/2023 15:10

This is Steph. Who won't be stopped 'strutting their stuff' in women's changing rooms, toilets and sports. And hopes terfs go to hell.

So empathetic with women.

Strutting his stuff eh?? 🙄

TheSpikySpinosaurus · 15/11/2023 19:49

Ooh, what a listen!! Emma Barnett - go, woman.

Arguing about endo with the founder of the endo charity, who doesn't seem to know what endo is...

CriticalCondition · 15/11/2023 19:39

Jodie was a chef with endo who took a bit of a swerve while thinking about becoming a food tech teacher. Jodie is a bit out of her depth now and my female socialisation means I can't help feeling a bit sorry for her.

@nepeta I had someone in my network who was talking about women being ignored in our male dominated industry refer to women as non-men today. If women are going to start self describing as non men, then we're going to lose all sense of identity and meaningful language.

I mean what if men (as if!) Started being non women... And we all started describing things as what they're not.... Madness !

I'm a non cat loving non man afab 🙈

FantasticElasticBand · 15/11/2023 19:13

I thought the comment re Nancy / Stonewall was a very telling Freudian slip. To a certain segment, Stonewall is ALL about the T.

yup - you said it out loud.

nepeta · 15/11/2023 18:51

I am so fascinated by the unaware or subconscious way activists only erase the female sex, as was the case here, too, given that the 'men' they discuss are penis people, right? So at least say amab.

Many of these activists, if not most, are female themselves (including journalists who write 'pregnant people' and 'men having vasectomies' in the same sentence in an article and neither the author nor the editor sees anything odd in this).

So what is driving this?

Is it just the prioritising of all things male? The old sexism working as well as ever below the surface, which makes us respect men more than women and less likely to attack them?

A deep dislike of the female body by female people, given how it is treated in porn and sexual violence and the general objectification?

Or is it that neither trans women nor trans men nor female nonbinary identifiers want to be reminded of the female body by giving it a separate name? Though the reasons here differ, of course, as trans women don't want it mentioned because they don't have it and trans men don't want it mentioned because they have it. But none of these groups cares about the male body existing or having its old name.

Or is it that male transitioners are assertive and demand these changes while female transitioners are not? And women (vulva types) given in while men (penis types) do not?

Sorry for going off on a tangent. This topic suggests to me how women got subjugated in the first place (one of the many reasons only, of course), and I so wish it was not happening for that reason.

StJulian2023 · 15/11/2023 18:42

Thanks for flagging this, just listened. I thought Emma was excellent. The charity sounded phenomenally flaky.

Also, why does no one ever offer me a CEO role when I’m out for coffee? The selection process sounded…rigorous

HumanBurrito · 15/11/2023 18:31

I wish she had probed more about Steph's qualifications and recruitment process. What exactly made them the best person for the job?

I think Steph’s ‘qualifications' was being a 'noteworthy' appointment in an attempt to bring attention to the charity but it’s not turning out to be the type of attention that was anticipated 🤔

CriticalCondition · 15/11/2023 18:32

Not only did Steph misname Nancy Kelley on air they managed to do the same to Emma 'Bartlett' in a tweet shortly after the interview.

It reminds me of a male colleague who never got my name right but never seemed to have the same problem with my male counterparts.

Funny that.
