@Limth feel free to research who funds the charity.

Thing is I could post about 5 other medical papers that state that endometriosis is a benign all body disease and fully dismiss the retrograde menstruation theory, but it kind of derails the point of the thread.

The CEO of the charity is causing us more harm than good here, there needs to be a new endometriosis charity set up and run by women who have lived experience of endometriosis.

Thanks for the link.
I noticed that later in that same article they refer to ‘people who menstruate’..🙄

Yes, the language and profession of the author is a bit (lot!) eyeroll-worthy. But it is one of the few times that cisgender is a helpful, as it states 16 cisgender men, so we know they are talking about actual men. Though obviously if we just stuck to male and female descriptors then it would be even more useful!

But my point was that it is overwhelmingly a woman's issue, but the preview made it look as if I was saying , but what about the menz.
Edited for stray punctuation.

StrangerYears · 16/11/2023 02:03

29 men with endometriosis?
Stop the world. Men are affected.

What a car crash

maltravers · 16/11/2023 00:35

Great interview by EB probing the nonsense and laying it all out. I think I read somewhere that she suffers from endometriosis herself and although she was very professional, there was a hint of exasperation with the bullshit, I thought.

BreadInCaptivity · 16/11/2023 00:18

Just caught up and listened.

Suggest this is another successful mission for operation #LetThemSpeak.

Emma points out that Steph has made Steph's first interview on Woman's Hour all about the handful of men who have endo and the folx who don't identify as women. Then Jodie, the endo specialist, says, in a voice of almost hysterical exasperation, 'We need to move away from the gynaecological side of things...'

Is this laying the groundwork for men who identify as female accessing the services as a form of validation? Like the push from some transactivists to get transwomen smear tests?

I think you are right.

Best Monty Python being silly voice mixed with Little Britain.
smug voice "Ohhh I went to an Endometriosis support group tonight. It was lovely"
curious voice "EnzioMEtrosis? What's that then?"
smug voice "It's a special WOMANS problem. Down there! Didn't you know? It means I'm a real LAYDEE"
curious but also jealous voice "Oooohhhhh I'm a LAYDEE too! I must get me some of that EnzioMEtrosis too!"

It reminds me of the beginning of Fight Club where Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter's characters are going to support groups for medical conditions they don't have because it makes them feel better. The characters are parasites emotionally leeching off the problems of others.

Melroses · 16/11/2023 00:09

It sounded as though she needed a secretary.

toomanytrees · 16/11/2023 00:07

Why couldn't Jodie as the founder of this tiny charity be the "CEO"? Did someone persuade her otherwise? Maybe someone convinced her that the charity could do great things if only it had the right, experienced, older CEO. Maybe someone is taking advantage of her.

Wonkydonkey99 · 15/11/2023 23:50

Go Emma, she’s great. Very clever…

AbsolutelyFemale · 15/11/2023 23:47

Enjoyed that. Nice one Emma. Finally these dick heads are coming under proper scrutiny.

2Rebecca · 15/11/2023 23:43

The charity sounded a bit bizarre in their approach to endometriosis outwith appointing a transwoman transactivist CEO. They sounded clueless about what endometriosis is and talked about " not wanting to take away anyone's pain" where as I would have thought an endometriosis charity would be trying to reduce the pain women with endometriosis experience.

howdoesyourgardengrowinmay · 15/11/2023 23:41

DirtyDuchess · 15/11/2023 14:49

Emma did pretty well there I thought. The charity founder sounded like a woke idiot and the bloke was totally out of his depth.

Yep, this

Men can develop endometriosis if they are given oestrogen for prostate issues, as endometriosis is an oestrogen driven benign cancer.

It's not actually explicitly linked to menstruation as we are lead to believe and shouldn't even be treated as a gynaecology issue. It's an all body benign cancer that grows spreads and destroys lives, under the guises as a women's issue.

The reason it's not treated as of yet the large pharmaceutical businesses can't invent a jab, vaccination or cure.

So here we are with a fucking twat as a ceo who is no doubt linked to pharmaceutical money as much as the charity is funded by pharmaceutical business. The charity is a joke.

If anyone had spare time view where the funding comes from.

Endometriosis isn't a benign cancer. Here's a full histopathological analysis of endometrial lesions: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9504345/

It's linked to menstruation because endo tissue is similar to womb-lining tissue and womb-lining is shed each month during menstruation. Moreover, endo pain can get worse during menstruation.

Absolutely no idea what you're on about with the pharmaceutical companies comment.

Computer-Aided Histopathological Characterisation of Endometriosis Lesions

Endometriosis is a common gynaecological condition characterised by the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus and is associated with pain and infertility. Currently, the gold standard for endometriosis diagnosis is laparoscopic excision and ....

I don't understand 29 men known to suffer from endometriosis. Does he mean 29 women identifying as men suffer from endometriosis?

My mind is boggled

I don't have an issue with a biological male being CEO so long as they stay focused on women with endometriosis. Unfortunately it's already clear where Steph's priorities lie and they're not with women.

This.

Clafoutie · 15/11/2023 22:41

MorvernBlack · 15/11/2023 15:49

Endometriosis affects 190 million women worldwide and less than 20 (biological) men.

https://www.healthline.com/health/can-men-have-endometriosis

And whilst I have a huge amount of sympathy with those men, it is predominantly a women's issue.

AIstolemylunch · 15/11/2023 21:12

I think they were referring to 29 actual men who apparently got migrating tumours outside their organs due to taking too much estrogen (for prostate cancer), having liver cirhosis which also fucks with your hormones or being very, very fat, ditto. These tumours form from epithelial cells somewhat similar, in terms of cell type, to the cells lining the edometrium aka the inner lining of a uterus, an organ unique to women. Clue's in the name of course, as endometriosis refers to cells migrating inappropriately from a woman's uterus, not some obscure hormonal problem that affects a tiny, tiny amount of unlucky men, as opposed to millions of actual women.

Of course it wont be long before larping men who have been on wrong sex estrogen for years start claiming to have it and the 29 will mysterioulsy rocket to 2.9 million transwomen have endometriosis as well. I mean, who knows, maybe they will actually a form of endometriosis around their prostates from taking too much estrogen, who knows.

They'll be claiming it's a trans 'gendocide'

I wish she had probed more about Steph's qualifications and recruitment process. What exactly made them the best person for the job?

Chat over a cup of coffee I believe. Clearly had a list of probing questi9ns to ask. Not sure any of the other trustees were involved although they are all apparently over the moon.

Livelovebehappy · 15/11/2023 21:44

I listened to it this morning and it was toe curling stuff. Absolute car crash interview for Jodie and Steph. Emma had them chasing their tails - lots of stuttering and silences.

EarthSight · 15/11/2023 21:37

That's quite funny because at the beginning she's acknowledging that the CEO is not biologically female.....how bloody transphobic of her!

lordloveadog · 15/11/2023 21:30

Wow the answer is there in the first few sentences.

The woman who founded the organization is a single mother with chronic illness who's trying to do research on the disease.

So she doesn't have time to be CEO.

She wants to handover someone who isn't burdened with caring or female illnesses.

A special kind of woman who doesn't have to deal with woman stuff.

Justcallmebebes · 15/11/2023 21:20
