I think many of them do understand. But they also know that they get rewarded within their peer groups for pretending not to understand. Which in my view makes it even worse.

I once had someone try to explain to me how the Holocaust wasn't anything to do with race, just 'discrimination.' It wan't long after that that Whoopi Goldburg said a similar thing

That’s absolutely disgusting but not surprising. An awful lot of self-identified anti-racists also seem to have failed to understand that the October 7th attacks were a racist massacre.

Sadly I've met a few people who would consider themselves woke and who are racist, against white people and Jews. I actually had one try and explain to me that it was only racism if it was directed at black/brown skinned people and that you can't be racist towards white people 🙄

Racism needs to involve an element of power which black people don't have over white people so it's discriminatiom rather than racism.

Antisemitism exists though.

Wrong. It doesn’t. This is not the definition under UK law. It’s not the definition most people would use.

It’s a definition used by some people with a particular theory about racism.

Woke people aren’t racist, for example, and that’s great, right? I’d much rather be woke than racist.

Yes indeed - all the new ‘victims’ are people who’ve identified into victimhood - transwomen (men) being another obvious example.

Team Dreyfuss on this one, sadly.

Kathy Burke is a massive disappointment on this topic.

Surprised she’s not been cancelled for Waynetta Slob’s views, seeing as the New Puritans cannot tolerate any non PC humour.

I am unsurprised. One of the whole points of identity politics is to take resource and attention from people truly at the bottom of the heap (the poor), to give to a bunch of middle-class self-appointed victims. It's the new snobbery, which chimes nicely with the old-fashioned, "Oo aren't working class people grotesque?" of Waynetta's character.

Racism needs to involve an element of power which black people don't have over white people so it's discriminatiom rather than racism.

No it doesn’t. This definition of racism is just part of an academic theory that has contributed to a minority belief system that YOU have chosen to uphold. Granted this divisive ideology has made a huge leap in popularity over the last several years, but fundamentally it doesn’t stand up so many are now pushing back hard on it. The problem was that most people don’t subscribe to these academic/theoretical definitions around what racism means and knew for them, in real life, it didn’t make sense, but are told they’re racist for not doing so, which isn’t true either. Racist - rightly is a hugely powerful word, no one wants to be that, so being called it, with this definition, tends to shame and shut that person up immediately, because they don’t realise it’s being used to support a political/ideological belief, rather than factually, which is of course the intention as it sweeps away opposition immediately and gives power to the user of this slur. It came from the universities in the US in the 70s/80s & 90s and a significant number MNetters seems to just love parroting it without too much real thought.

You are absolutely right @qwertyuiopasdfgh so don’t believe anyone who tells you otherwise unless of course you read up on it and decide you want to get behind that definition and belief system and spend the rest of life unwittingly committing supposed viciously racist acts without ever realising it and having to impart to your innocent children that they too are born “white privileged” no matter what shit life throws at them.

user96327888 · 09/11/2023 12:31

Racial discrimination. There's no power involved and its root is fear.

not sure i agree with this... the comments made by some people from my culture about white people is definitely racist!

You can't just invent your own meanings for words.

Used to like Kathy till I saw her in a documentary where she expressed TWAW and gender criticism is incorrect or words to that effect.

She's not doing joined-up thinking
Heavens forbid a woman doesn't "think" right!

No, not thinking 'right' but what I said - not thought through. She says certain things as if she's coming from a feminist or pro-female perspective. And then she says other things that contradict that pro-woman perspective.

For example, she parrots the 'sex work is work' mantra because she is under the impression that it offers dignity to prostituted women. She hasn't thought through what SWIW really means: she hasn't asked why the Job Centre doesn't require all people who can't get other work to prostitute themselves; she doesn't show awareness of the people trafficking and danger and misery of the sex industry... That's why I said she doesn't do joined-up thinking.

Lottapianos · 06/11/2023 21:18

I saw the short series she did about women a few years ago and found it very superficial and disappointing. Her interviewing skills didn't seem to stretch much beyond nodding and saying 'right' repeatedly 🥴

Swimeveryday · 06/11/2023 19:47

I did like her but then she did a program on poverty and expected all her interviewees to elaborate on how much they lived on and she wouldn’t say what her wages are. Double standard. Lost my respect.

WomensRightsRenegade · 06/11/2023 19:47

Total sellout

Lottapianos · 06/11/2023 19:45

'Thank you for understanding my point about Burke and Margolyes. Nothing to do with being 'ladylike'.'

👍

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/11/2023 19:23

@Lottapianos
Nothing wrong with 'vulgarity', I do plenty of swearing myself, but it's pretty tiresome when swearing and being self-consciously outrageous is someone's whole public persona. Kathy Burke is a great actor, but I find her public persona quite irritating, and I don't agree that gender ideology (or pretending to go along with it) is compatible with being a feminist

Thank you for understanding my point about Burke and Margolyes. Nothing to do with being 'ladylike'.

Karensalright · 06/11/2023 18:59

I have signed that biological reality petition by btw i hope everyone does.

I went to Stuart Leigh recently and heckled him and left, the comedic circuit are pretty much captured, so to some extent unless I was sitting on millions i probs would not want to put my head above the parapet.

There again i would probably stay silent.

Am off Izzard cos he was in a female loo, not so off with Cathy though disappointed.

Feminism was invented because it was recognised that women, as a sex class, faced discrimination.

Women couldn’t vote, marital rape wasn’t recognised as a crime, women were denied opportunities to thrive and excel and learn. Men took credit for women’s achievements. Women were silenced and kept in the kitchen.

Nowadays, in the UK at least, women are faring better. We have the vote, we have women in boardrooms, women going to university, women making decisions, women playing football for England, we’ve even had female prime ministers. There’s still a long way to go. Workplace discrimination, misogyny and domestic violence are continuing. Healthcare still centres men and often fails to recognise women’s pain as valid.

Women are more likely to die if a male surgeon operates on them than if a female surgeon does the honours. But we’ve still got it good, when you consider that women in Afghanistan are living a new dystopian version of A Handmaid’s Tale.

Kathy’s feminism is for all sexes, all genders. That’s not a feminism I recognise. Black Lives Matter got angry when people started saying “ah yes, but all lives matter”. That’s how I feel about my feminism. Of course, men are important, and of course, men matter. I care about men and I love men. But my feminism centres women, unapologetically. It recognises that women have been crapped upon by men since the dawn of time, and women have been fighting for their rights ever since.

My feminism recognises women, transmen and non-binary females. All have lived experience as female people. My feminism does not extend to transwomen. Genuine, dysphoric TW may well have their own battles to fight, and their own struggles, and I can sympathise with that. However, my feminism does not include male people. Feminism that includes males just becomes a gender-neutral human rights movement, unable to focus exclusively on the disadvantaged sex class it was first set up for.

Excellent manifesto!
Well said that woman

Same as most on this board, so disappointed in her. She chose to stand back and throw James Dreyfus under the bus. I will never watch her in anything again. When this whole fucking TWAW is finally over I’m going to enjoy watching Kathy and all the other cowards scrabbling to explain their actions

Was it a repeat of Kathy’s All Woman series, from a couple of years ago? I remember watching one where Kathy talked about beauty, and another episode about motherhood. It was before I fell down the gender ideology rabbit hole and discovered that people I once admired had some crazy Flat Earth-esque views.

I can’t remember much about the content now, but I do recall thinking they were very enjoyable and interesting programmes.

Cancelledcurio · 06/11/2023 18:34

@Karensalright I didn't see that programme. Did Kathy mention the many trans women (males) who use cosmetic surgery to attempt to look like pornified versions of women? Now that would have been an interesting issue for her to raise ?
