Well, how many 58 year olds wear bows in their hair and froufrou skirts that tend to 'fly up'?

This reminds me of my mother's old shower curtain.

She popped up in some context the other day, possibly something to do with the Jo Phoenix thread?

Ooh, thanks!

Those threads moved so fast I had to abandon them!
Will do a search now.

James Esses has launched the Declaration for Biological Reality this morning - an impressive roster of names

Declaration for Biological Reality

Thanks very much for posting this. I have signed.

hasn’t Meg-John slithered off under a rock somewhere? Haven’t heard a peep Ron xim or xir’s non-binary Freemason boyfriend in ages…

nothingcomestonothing · 06/11/2023 17:19

BACP is completely captured. Chappell, Meg John Barker and assorted hangers on and handmaidens have seen to that. The professional journal is unreadable these days, just a queer thery propaganda magazine.

I had no idea that UKCP had rowed back on gender ideology, that's very interesting. Aren't they signatories to the MOU?

Envy not envy of Sophie's beautiful Little Bo Peep outfit

https://www.bacp.co.uk/media/2176/bacp-ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions.pdf

According to this BACP document Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions which was released in 2015, he was part of their Expert Ethical Reference Group which included:

  • Dr Alistair Ross (Chair, Oxford University)
  • Dr Gwen Adshead (Forensic psychiatrist)
  • Professor Richard Ashcroft (Moral philosopher, Queen Mary, University of London)
  • Laurie Clarke (CEO 2014)
  • Jon Fortnam (Partner, Pinsent Masons LLP)
  • Professor Sophie Grace-Chappell (Moral philosopher, Open University)
  • Amanda Hawkins (BACP Chair 2014)
  • Dr Andrew Reeves (BACP Chair)
  • Dr Hadyn Williams (Registrar 2015, CEO)

So if it's the same arrangement for revising these, it sounds like he's just one contributing voice of many and isn't actually responsible for penning the guidelines himself.

On top of that, it's a name you see on young women in their twenties and younger. The name 'Sophie' took off in the nineties, I think, and you didn't hear it much in the sixties, when this person was born. 'Grace' is a popular middle name now, but it wasn't a few decades ago.

This individual would almost certainly not have been named Sophie Grace had they been born female - Carol Jane or Deborah (Debbie) Anne would have been a much more typical name for someone born in 1964.

Obviously they can pick whatever name they like but it just adds to the overall incongruence when faced with this person.

BCAP showing their true colours

Good point. I wonder why men suddenly discover they’re ‘girls’, not middle-aged women …

Ofcourseshecan · 06/11/2023 08:07

Good for the Mail being absolutely honest with this story and its headline Transgender activist who said it 'would not matter' if the number of female murders increased if men were allowed to self-identify as women is devising ethics rules for therapists.

If you’d told me five years ago that one day I’d be boycotting the Guardian and cheering on the Mail (and other once-despised papers like the Times and Telegraph), I wouldn’t have
believed you. 😧

Sisterpita · 06/11/2023 07:48

@Justwrong68 they are correct the Maya Forstater EAT determined it is a belief under the EA2010.

We believe it’s a scientific fact so in legal terms it’s our belief that is protected.

Great statement towards a more balanced and nuanced approach.

SinnerBoy · 06/11/2023 07:44

Sophie isn't short for sophist, then?

The BACP is in total disarray at the moment over poor governance. It's out of step with other professional bodies, who are rowing back on the conversion therapy issue. This statement, for example, is very clear.

But they say that sex being immutable is a belief

Grace …….well, maybe.

HelenFisksBrownSuit · 06/11/2023 05:55

I think the writing is on the wall, and they have had to put that statement out.

eitherorneithernor · 05/11/2023 22:25

The statement from UKCP is very interesting considering that's the membership organisation James Esses is taking to court.

I wonder if they are trying to distance themselves from Metanoia, the training organisation that dismissed him similar to the way the whole Stonewall/ Garden court thing turned out.

Interesting the article states “Last night Prof Chappell, who teaches at the Open University”. I wonder if there was any link to the OUs treatment of Jo Phoenix and others?

Isn't it always going to be the case that the most vocal, vile and deeply activist people are going to be putting their names forward for all of these jobs?

Yes.

It is rather like someone from the EDL desperate to get into the Immigration Office and set policy. The reasons why are obvious. The issue is one of safeguarding, due diligence and basic bloody common sense on the part of employers, and getting past the awwww bless and jolly photo ops demonstrating how lovely and diverse they look in the marketing.

That is true however it is the responsibility of the organisation not to hire such inappropriate people or allow them to have any influence in the organisation
