I used to think of, say, IW inhabiting some sort of weird third space, and it wasn't because i liked 'em. Not male but definitely not female. I'm not sure how I arrived there. This is the issue with compelled speech. There is no way it should ever be allowed. People should be completely free to choose what pronouns they use when describing someone. I can't imagine many (make that any at all) women prisoners would choose to use female pronouns for transwomen, given what is already known from the ONS and FOI data on both the significantly high number of women in prison who have been the victims of sexual violence and the percentage of transwomen who are in for sex offences.

Someone also mentioned the Forstater case. Everyone now has the legal right to hold the belief that sex immutable (and that we don't all have a gender identity). I would assume that as users of the prison service, prisoners are covered under this too.
