I was a man, but then changed my mind and became a woman.

In a psychological sense?

I wonder if our 'visitors' realise exactly how many men they are speaking to and engaging with? 😄

I'm a man and so's my wife.

ArthurbellaScott · 10/11/2023 12:42

Yes, women recognise red flags and out of necessity have learned strategies to avoid harm and inflaming a potentially dangerous situation.

On an anonymous internet board where there is no risk of physical intimidation, we can speak more freely.

MavisMcMinty · 10/11/2023 12:42

Do I see desperate scrabbling around to find reasons/excuses other than the acronym that dare not be named? Be out and be proud, stop kidding yourself, it’s fine. Just keep it outside of our spaces, that’s all we ask. I don’t bother people with my sexual fantasies and have no interest in other people’s. I particularly shudder at the thought of being an unwitting and unwilling participant in someone else’s fantasy, it’s intrusive, rude, and extremely male behaviour.

I don't really get on with men. Women have always been nicer to me.

Quel surprise. We’re socialised that way. Also worth bearing in mind that fawning is something women and girls often do to men when they are feeling uncomfortable or scared. Fight/Flight/Freeze/Fawn

Strap in, sugar tits. We are bored of being “nice”. Nice doesn’t get you rights, it gets you trodden on.

You won the internet today.

Maybe this comes back to the "extreme male brain" theory associated with neurodiversity, and the overlap that has with being trans?

Are you now claiming to have an extreme male brain rather than a ladybrain?

I think there's a lot to that. There are men on this board who manage to blend in enough that they're not obviously clockable as not being women

True. Most of the regular men, including those on this thread, don't display the sort of sexism that our fly-by-night visitors do.

The "extreme male brain" theory was associated with autism, not "neurodiversity". It is not a rigorously tested scientific theory and there is little robust evidence for it.

Is there an overlap between autism and transgenderism, in all cases? Perhaps there is a correlation with the recent increase in young teens/young adults particularly girls, but what evidence is there for later transitioning men?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/11/2023 12:10

Dingle, Coconut Grove, Wookey Hollow and Crocky on the other hand.

I've been to Crocky for a weekend once, a friend lived there after uni but moved soon after I visited. I just remember it had a great chip shop nearby!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/11/2023 12:07

Had it ever occurred to you that I might actually be a woman, in the psychological sense? Or do you automatically rule out that possibility when engaging with trans women?

No, and yes. Hope that clears that up.

Had it ever occurred to you that I might actually be a woman, in the psychological sense? Or do you automatically rule out that possibility when engaging with trans women?

Ignoring the logical and practical absurdity of trying to use a definition of "woman" relying on something psychological, I could countenance the possibility that one might maybe recognise that transmen or transwomen somehow had opposite-sex-typical behaviour, so maybe one could say there was "something" there.

But as Helen Joyce has said - sexed behavioural differences are just emphasised by "trans". Transwomen tend to be at the far male end of sex-typical behaviour, and transmen tend to be at the far female end. My empirical observation, there is absolutely no trend of trans people exhibiting cross-sex behaviour on anything other than a performative level.

And I liked this, quoted from someone on Twitter by Glinner the other day.

Being "trans" appears to be the condition of especially lacking insight into the experience of the opposite sex compared to the general population

I think there's a lot to that. There are men on this board who manage to blend in enough that they're not obviously clockable as not being women. But that's something transwomen really struggle with, as they have far less understanding and empathy with women.

And lets try to be a bit nicer to each other shall we? Sometimes I feel like I'm talking to the baddies in a Roald Dahl book.

You go first.

Promise you won't traumatize women and girls by entering their spaces.

Nope I thought not. Not a hint of kindness towards women.

I don’t have to be nice to you. So I won’t.

MavisMcMinty · 10/11/2023 11:13

Heh. I had an aunt who was a creationist (and had photos of Ian Paisley Senior on her walls to counter the photos of the Pope and JFK on her Catholic neighbours’ walls). She once said to my Dad in a tone of disgust and disbelief “I hear you believe in evolution!”

Don’t wrestle with pigs, you both get dirty and the pig enjoys it.
I got that from another mumsnet thread

See also, pigeon chess.

Debating creationists on the topic of evolution is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon — it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory. The pro-creationist reviewers of this book clearly demonstrate this to be true.
