Article in Unheard, JKR being 'interviewed' on her views on her views an Australian trans artist taking the part of JKR with 'cis' person taking the part of the 'trans' interviewer.......I cannot believe this is not slanderous! Or libelous if it's written for all to see......can this really go unchallenged by any legal or ethical avenue?

New play features 'interview' with JK Rowling over her trans views

This week, Melbourne Fringe will host An Evening with JK. For just $28 a head, theatregoers will finally be able to hear how “one of the world’s most celebrated authors become one of the most hated,” as JK Rowling sits down for an “exclusive, hard-hitt...

Sounds a big pile of fictional tripe and gaslighting. The hilarious thing is that JKR could do a play vaguely along the same lines …. a factual biography on stage, her experience of getting into the debate, the threats on her life, the abuse, the fall out … I wonder if Sydney’s Fringe festival might provide JKR a stage next year?

Agrona · 22/10/2023 05:00

$28.00! Is that how much they pay the audience to attend?

shakes head It’s not enough…

Not surprising it is in Melbourne.

BezMills · 22/10/2023 04:31

If there hadn't been millions of words written and hundreds of hours of youtube videos already misrepresenting JKR's views...

At this point isn't more of a recap video than anything new or interesting?

SinnerBoy · 22/10/2023 04:11

But matey isn't playing Devil's Advocate honestly, them is making up a load of emotive crap and putting it into JKR's mouth, as if she'd actually said it.

That's a huge difference.

Tinysoxxx · 21/10/2023 23:27

What is the basis for it getting a good review? That it was really good as it sounds just like something she might say if you didn’t like her and wanted to not like her more, so you came out the theatre feeling great that those fictitious words made you feel so right? That the man did a really good impression of a woman (that most people wouldn’t recognise the voice of so wouldn’t know if the impression was good anyway) saying horrible things so you felt good feeling horrible to her?

LockShockandBarrel · 21/10/2023 22:37

Not an innuendo...

Literally putting words in JKR's mouth.
Nellodee · 21/10/2023 22:12

Women of mumsnet: “Should we create an Ironman thread where we try to argue from the perspective of different characters?”
” No, I think that could be construed as offensive “
”I see where you’re coming from, let’s not do that then.”

TRA playwright: “I know, I’ll host an interview where I pretend to be JKR, and show how offensive her views are. I’ve just got so much empathy!”

Australia doesn’t have any laws that specifically prohibit the use of another person's name, image or likeness & it’s unlikely anyone would assume JKR’s endorsement/involvement so that avenue’s out. Poor JKR: people endlessly projecting their mummy issues onto her - on top of everything else - must be utterly exhausting.

Thanks for this @NitroNine but the difference is that they are not just using her name or image, they are putting on an event which purports to be her point of view. I agree no-one could mistake Anna Piper Scott for JKR but the whole thing is well dodgy

Straight outta USDC

Ice Cube recently filed proceedings in the US against the popular trading app Robinhood, to freeze the use of his image and likeness. This highlights the dangers of advertisements using the name, image or likeness of a celebrity without their consent.

Odd how it never strikes them that a sudden, overwhelming outbreak of apparent bigotry in a group that has previously been very reasonably fighting for equal rights in various guises might possibly be a sign that something is not quite right with their assessment of what’s going on…

And of course they won’t be representing our position. It’ll be hopelessly skewed because none of them are actually listening.

The only place I have "gotten" to is no longer being willing to indulge people's insistence that women can have penises and men can get pregnant.

That would make a very boring play.

One about how the people who believe in this nonsense have "gotten where they have gotten" would be more interesting.

Edited

"I used to think that there was no way a man could become a woman, but then my mate Pauline put this post on facebook about clownfish and it all made sense." kind of thing?

SerafinasGoose · 21/10/2023 21:10

Cosplaying women in order to denigrate them and ride roughshod over their rights?

Sounds like business as usual.

agent765 · 21/10/2023 21:00

Wow. Fool and money sums up people going to see this.

TheGreatATuin · 21/10/2023 20:41

It looks like an extremely long version of the old twitter response of 'oh so what you're actually saying is...' and then an army of strawmen come marching in.
If Scott bothered to put JKRs actual words on stage (and iirc her terf wars essay was 3000 words plus so plenty of material) and then used that as a 'debate', then it might be interesting, but what's the point in this?

RealityFan · 21/10/2023 20:41

lordloveadog · 21/10/2023 20:35

Surely this is just creating more work for lawyers?

That old phrase needs re writing
The only things guaranteed are death and taxes...now need to add in legal fees.

MassiveWordSalad · 21/10/2023 20:38

“It’s definitely not a show that’s going to redeem TERFs [trans-exclusionary radical feminists] or anything like that, but I do want to understand how they’ve gotten where they’ve gotten, because a lot of these people they were originally proper feminists arguing for women’s rights, fighting really important battles around abortion and everything like that. And then suddenly, their entire lives become consumed by this one issue.”
That's a very clear illustration that this cos-player has no idea what it's like to be a woman. Feminists! Behold, a man is here to tell you what you should be feministing about!

🙄 x a million

fedupandstuck · 21/10/2023 20:23

I was wondering about shows like The Crown where it's about living people and the dialogue/scenes must be fictional because no one knows about what those people actually said/did at the time. Or is that ok because the royal family tend not to sue??

MargotBamborough · 21/10/2023 20:19

Jesus Christ, who do these people think they are?

"Anna Piper Scott" has a very twisted view of empathy, which involves trying to actually understand where the other person is coming from, not making up things they might think and say if they really were as evil as you want them to be.

ApocalipstickNow · 21/10/2023 20:18

It’s EGOT or nothing for this titan of the literary world.

(I had to have 4 goes at spelling literary right. That’s how good I am)

Pudmyboy · 21/10/2023 20:15

ApocalipstickNow · 21/10/2023 20:02

Can we all play?

I’ll be Anna Piper Scott.

A Play What I Wrote

APS (me): I love JK Rowling. She’s the bestest! Buy more of her books and donate to her charity!

                The End

(accepts Emmy Grammy Oscar Tony awards. Graciously.)

I love this, I am wishing for a crowd outside the theatre dressed as Anne Piper Scott all wearing 'Woman: Adult Human Female' t-shirts and holding up 'I ❤️JKR' placards!

Disgraceful - hope she sues the pants off them for defamation.

RealityFan · 21/10/2023 20:13

fedupandstuck · 21/10/2023 20:10

Does this kind of show have to have a disclaimer that the comments ascribed to JKR are totally fictional and don't represent her point of view at all? Because otherwise isn't it potentially libellous/defamation if not?

This can't be on, full stop?
Is there any precedence for such a debacle?
If she'd given permission, but she obviously hasn't.

Male expectancy on steroids.

MichelleScarn · 21/10/2023 20:12

Oh @ApocalipstickNow applause applause!! Grammy and all the rest for you NOW!!
Never a truer word was spoken of Anna Piper Scott's love for JKR!
