The Guardian have just posted an invitation to put questions to Eddie Izzard. This feels like a great opportunity to get a well worded, gender critical question out there. The thing is I'm a bit stuck, collectively we must be able to come up with something though!

Post your questions for Eddie Izzard

Whether running for parliament or in multiple marathons, performing on film and in multilingual standup, the star will be here to tell you how on earth she does it

Well the questions they are allowing through are riveting!

Some screenshots

I clicked on those screenshots and, rather stupidly, was expecting to see riveting questions. Oh dear.

The question at the end about comedy for cheers rather than comedy for laughs was a good one I thought.

Loved your performance of Abel Gideon in Hannibal, by the way, just fantastic.

h1d1ng1npla1ns1ght · 11/10/2023 02:07

Eddie, those thirteen year old girls whom you claim had “all the power” when they laughed at you for walking into a women’s public bathroom, are you delusional or an idiot?

Boiledbeetle · 11/10/2023 00:54

See this is a Tunnocks tea cake dress (Although if that's the inventor of the tea cake guy, knowing what he thinks of when he unwraps a tea cake makes me feel a little funny about this photo!)

The photo on the right wears it better though!

IcakethereforeIam · 11/10/2023 00:04

@Boiledbeetle when you're right.

Side by side, you can tell Izzard is on the.....left?

Perhaps, this will help. In 2016 someone did pictures of the Little Mermaid characters as real people. Here's the Ursula one. Compare it with a recent picture of izzard dressed as a Tunnocks teacake. Izzard is the one on the.... teacake....right!

Edited

Going to have to call you out there Cake

It's obviously Tunnocks Caramel wafer dress not tea cake dress!

I think these men should be mocked for their ridiculous stereotypical demonstration of what “being a woman” means.

This.

IcakethereforeIam · 10/10/2023 23:23

He looks like Ursula from the Little Mermaid. It's not vitriol. It's an observation, that's not even original. @PikachuEars are you honestly saying he doesn't? This is a very strange hill to die on.

I appreciate you coming back and saying you didn't mean, by singling me out, to single me out. It's nice of you to say I'm not the only poster who you think is transphobic 😊

Boiledbeetle · 10/10/2023 23:09

So ladies. We should basically bow down and be nice to the person who makes an absolute mockery of women by the way he portrays them when he's in girl mode.

And god help us if anyone dares to be the tiniest bit less than nice and kind about him!

Fuck that!

Echo chamber

GC abbreviation

admonishing grown ups

Snide

Snipe.

Usually get all this from the non gender critical side of the argument.

Identifies as GC.

NotBadConsidering · 10/10/2023 23:04

Right...so it's OK because women in the public eye have always been the victims of vitriol? So it's just fair?

Even the excuses are the kind of things men say to defend sexist comments.

This argument only holds water if you believe Izzard to be part of an oppressed class instead of the most privileged.

the snide ad hominem comments that crop up in so many discussions don't help the cause.

What does help “the cause” then? Being nice? Being kind? I think these men should be mocked for their ridiculous stereotypical demonstration of what “being a woman” means. See also Sam Smith and “curves” 🙄. The more people point out the ridiculousness the more these men might stop and reflect on the offensiveness of what they’re claiming.

Although that would require a degree of humility, which doesn’t seem to be evident in Izzard.

Ursula is based on Divine, Eddie should be honoured to be compared.

LarkLane · 10/10/2023 22:55

What about Eddie and Eddie's penis in the women's toilets Pikachu?
You haven't commented on that.
I suppose you think that's fine for Eddie to fiddle with Eddie's dick in the queue for the women's loo?

PikachuEars · 10/10/2023 22:36

Right...so it's OK because women in the public eye have always been the victims of vitriol? So it's just fair?

Even the excuses are the kind of things men say to defend sexist comments.

"It's just an observation, I don't mean anything by it"

"I was having a laugh, get a sense of humour".

I mean, say what you like - if you want to snipe in your own echo chamber that's fine. I'm just pointing out that as someone who is otherwise open to listening to GC views, the snide ad hominem comments that crop up in so many discussions don't help the cause.

maslinpan · 10/10/2023 21:09

Eddie, was Suzie upset not to get the credit for the Jekyll and Hyde film?

Apparently a 1 turns into a bullet point but a 2 doesn't. Who knew?

  1. I’m guessing that you need to use only one carriage return at the end of point one, like this.
  2. Yes, seems to work.
NotBadConsidering · 10/10/2023 20:57

you might want to think about the impression jibes like this give about the GC movement.

That it has a sense of humour? Trans activism is notoriously humourless.

That it is up to date with well known social media tropes and memes?

That it refuses to put privileged men on a pedestal beyond reproach or into a sacred caste?

Soontobe60 · 10/10/2023 20:37

PikachuEars · 10/10/2023 17:12

If you’re just fighting for the right to be nasty on the internet, knock yourself out.

If you’re actually here because you care about defending women’s rights, you might want to think about the impression jibes like this give about the GC movement.

Are us ‘gc’ people not allowed to have a sense of humour? This thread is all about a man who built a career on making people laugh. Having seen him 3 times over the years, trust me, lots of his material takes the piss out of people.
Go and get yourself a great big grip!

Boiledbeetle · 10/10/2023 20:25

Out of idle curiosity I just went and googled Eddie izzard and clicked onto images.

I don't know how a) i never noticed 20 years ago how sexualized his poses are when dressed in a dress or skirt and b) he's been doing the same photo poses for about 30 years.

"You might not intend it to be transphobic, you might not think it’s transphobic, but sometimes the collective effect looks pretty transphobic to me."

  1. He wants to be accepted as a woman, having people commenting on his appearance has surely got to be up there as an extremely common women's experience.
  1. Everything is transphobic. Get over it if you want to express gender critical views.
