Labour will make it easier for people to change their gender

... a report by Labour’s National Policy Forum, to be voted on tomorrow, says: ‘The process of gender recognition is intrusive, outdated and humiliating. ‘Labour will modernise, simplify and reform the gender recognition law to a new process, taking into account international evidence of what works.’

Experts said that the wording of the policy paved the way for the removal of the current need for doctors to sign off a change in gender.

Equalities Minister Kemi Badenoch said: ‘Labour backed self-ID for five years because it’s what they really believe. A policy that endangers women and girls.

‘This policy document shows they haven’t changed their minds. We should all be worried about their real plans if they’re ever in government.’

I think this is basically this article in the Telegraph https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/10/08/kemi-badenoch-keir-starmer-labour-election-gender-trans/ which can be read by going to https://archive.ph and pasting in the Telegraph link above.

All of which is to say - It's not just gender ideology where they've totally lost the plot and are completely divorced from reality as well as completely underestimating and condescending to the electorate. It's just who they are.

I think they made a few of the right noises when it all kicked off in Scotland but really Labour haven’t moved in their position on this at all. I think they are arrogant enough to think they can fudge their words and language and we will be placated or even be convinced.

Yes. They think the electorate is somewhat stupider then they are when in fact most of us are far more intelligent and in touch with reality.

Really, when a party's totally impractical headline policy is to get a class of 30 small children brushing their teeth at school in the morning (hygiene, teachers, education time and practicalities be damned) then I think we know the level of intelligence they're operating at. This is in schools without basic resources and in some cases literally propped up to stop them falling down. Who comes up with this rubbish? Surely getting the basics right should come first?

I did have quite an amusing conversation with a teacher friend about it after school. She's in a union and would be a naturally left voter but I think they've lost her over the toothbrushing idea. And from the sound of it teaching would lose her if they actually tried to implement it. She had about 10 reasons it would be a complete nightmare.

They use the phrase "build consensus".

They mean "get the stupid people to accept gender ideology or at least shut up".

Agree that the process for claiming any benefits especially Disability benefits is truly humiliating. This needs to be reformed urgently and the GRC should be abolished , and the GRA repealed. Labour should be asked about this. Not convinced there has been any change in their attitude over womens sex based protections.

If I ever vote Labour again it will be because they have genuinely Labour economic policies such as renationalisation of water, energy, social housing, building more council houses, putting schools back under LA control, getting contractor out of the NHS and council services, bring back Sure Start centres and make more of them etc and that they are focusing on all the above and have totally dumped identity politics.

We can but dream. If only! Sounds a bit too socialist for KS.

Playing the trans card is a massive vote loser! Excellent!

CaramelMac · 09/10/2023 17:44

I thought the reason some blokes did it was BEACAUSE it was humiliating?

I'd be more impressed if they modernised the humiliating and dehumanising dwp.

Me too. That would actually help a lot of people though.

People Labour don't actually care about, like the disabled. I guess we just aren't fashionable enough. ☹

EverySporkIsSacred · 09/10/2023 17:01

True, I don't know who they think can afford it or wants to (I've seen the quality of some recent "affordable" housing as its gone up and desirable of its not).

IwantToRetire · 09/10/2023 16:58

Or talked about social housing rather than "affordable".

And didn't let a senior Labour MP saying they needed to be a little more Tory to win the vote.

Accept of course if they really were going to be a little more Tory, they wouldn't be voting to bring in Self ID.
