Fucking hell I work in industry, making sofas and armchairs and we still have a social media policy.
I'm going to guess you dont work or you've never seen your workplace soc med policy.
There are many many things you cannot say as a medical professional, including sarcastic things, but definitely political things.

Actual LOL at the idea that medical professionals aren’t allowed to be sarcastic on social media.

Nowdontmakeamess · 06/10/2023 07:36

You realise that a ‘hate crime’ to some trans people includes stating that sex cannot be changed and trying to protect women’s spaces.

JFDIYOLO · 06/10/2023 07:33

She's transitioning her daughter - she'll be going all out everywhere to shout about it and this is just a small part of it.

Boomboom22 · 06/10/2023 07:29

But these are the made up crimes like posting twam on twitter not actually hate crimes. We know the police ignore vawg and for some reason do the bidding of even criminal tw. It is not hate for tra to make rape and death threats online but it is for women to state facts!

napody · 06/10/2023 07:28

To clarify (since this is trending) I am gender critical and think if wards are sex segregated that means transwomen are not in a ward with women. That's not 'excluding trans people' it's appropriate sex segregation when people are vulnerable.

I think people should be allowed to participate in political debate on social media. I'm intrigued what NHS social media policy says that would mean a statement like this was crossing a line. It's not personal or bullying.

I agree.

I know sm policies exist for public sector, but I domt think anyone should be reported for expressing an opinion. She might just really hate tories and following this evil conference who can blame her? To be honest I disagree with control of what nurses (and teachers) post on sm. We don't pay them enough to own them 24/7.

MaryWelly · 06/10/2023 07:26

Well done to that nurse!
https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/oct/05/record-rise-hate-crimes-transgender-people-reported-england-and-wales
This toxic hatred of minorities has got to stop! And the conservatives need to learn that hating on trans people, immigrants and being climate change deniers is the desperate last gasps of a party set out to divide and destroy rather than being together and improve.

Hate crimes against transgender people hit record high in England and Wales

Increase of 11% in recorded incidents may be due to comments in media and by politicians, says Home Office report

A nurse I’m with friends with shared that article by pink news. I’m finding it all very exhausting.

Yellowlily8 · 06/10/2023 07:19

napody · 05/10/2023 22:36

Eh?? Report it?!
Of course nurses are entitled to post political opinions on sm.

Aren't nurses supposed to care for people regardless of their political views, religion etc? How would a conservative patient feel knowing their nurse resented treating them?

TheGreatATuin · 06/10/2023 07:17

Oh I see the study was carried out by a group who campaign for trans women to be included in women's wards.

What about the lady that was raped by a trans while both were patients in hospital?

Oh wait, the hospital tried to claim she couldn't have been rapaed because the penis was a transwoman's. GMAFB! Took them over a year to finally admit it and still buckled down that she wasn't raped by a man but by a woman. I guess women with penises that are patients need to be kept away from women patients without that "trait".

Just going to leave this here.

Thats an interesting article from Pink News. I'll have a closer look at the study but it would be quite something if an actual study found no problems considering the number of high profile cases there have been.

The poster has already responded that it didn’t happen (apologies edit - rather ‘if it happened’), despite the rape having been reported to the police and the trust finally admitting over a year later that the policy is to place women and transwoman together on women’s wards.

Very few people are likely to say anything even if they’re extremely uncomfortable, let alone make a formal complaint. And if they make a very valid complaint, which the woman, who was raped will have done, it simply was dismissed. And it would appear not recorded.

This ‘study’ isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.

Funny. I do work, but I don't have an important job as a medical professional making sofas, obviously.

DysonSpheres · 06/10/2023 07:02

It's very tribal, and shows an alarming lack of discretion for a so called professional. But what was the purpose of this post OP?

You are not going to report (which I agree it's not a serious enough statement to be worth reporting)

So what is the point? I really do not want us to get to the point as a society that we have to be careful who hears us criticising the government in case we get reported.

I mean if it included threat of some kind, or was targeted at a specific identity group (no, I'm not sure 'Tories' fit this category) that might be a different matter.

That said, it is getting close to that line!

Still, I would have this post removed if the extea details you've given are true and correct.

DworkinWasRight · 06/10/2023 06:59

What if the trans person was a Tory - Jamie Wallis MP for example?

Winnading · 06/10/2023 06:56

Photographsandmemories · 05/10/2023 22:46

It's just her opinion... a stupid one, but hers all the same.

I doubt she is secretly injecting Tory patients with strychnine.

Desecratedcoconut · 06/10/2023 03:38

And if she posted:

I'd rather share a ward with a tory than a trans person

...then that would be fine too, right?

That is a good question. How would it being worded that way go over with TRAs and the extreme left-leaning groups?

Genuine question: If Labour were to win the next election, how do they plan to fix the NHS? Raise taxes? If so, by how much? Cut down on benefits? How will they put more money into the budget if the budget is already stretched? Take from something the Tories waste money on?
I am from across the pond, and this is a true question. On this side of the pond, they all make promises but rarely get much done, on either side. Both parties suck, imho.

ohdamnitjanet · 06/10/2023 06:50

ScribblingPixie · 05/10/2023 23:01

I wonder if she'd rather treat a Tory trans patient or a gender-critical Labour voter? Maybe she should draw up a list of potential patients from her most to least preferred, just so we all know?

Exactly!

I would mute/block and move on. Probably just a thick handmaid who has no empathy for her women patients.

Nurses are not supposed to post professional issues on social media report it

Don't be so ridiculous. Of course NHS staff can express a political preference on SM
and thousands do, me included.

OP if they have a trans child then their view will be completely skewed. But, it's endemic in the NHS. I have a manager who is utterly brilliant but has been completely captured. It comes from a good place but I daydream about slapping him sometimes when he tries to show how "inclusive" he is!

Meadowfly · 06/10/2023 06:16

This! People can vote how they want. I’ve a colleague who loudly goes on about ‘tories’ being awful people and is completely oblivious that about half her colleagues probably vote Tory. People who vote Tory aren’t as a whole evil, they aren’t fascia’s or murderous dictators. It’s acceptable to have different views on how to manage the economy and prioritise spending,

Aubaslice · 06/10/2023 06:16

NCtooPersonal · 06/10/2023 06:09

No. It isn’t. It’s about her hatred for half the population in general terms. And she works for the population as a whole.

If Govt staff hate half the public, the public should know.

In this case, it’s prompted by a very un conservative personal attack on her family by the Govt. She should definitely be able to protest.

Expressing it as hating half the population is weird but possibly helpful to prompt more Tories to say “not in my name”

At what point in the post did it say "Tory voter"? I suppose if you vote Tory you could class yourself as a Tory if you vote for them but IMO that's a bit weird, treating politics like a football team and being wedded to it regardless of what the party says or does.

To me, it read as a criticism of the government and not "half the population".

Also, only 27% of the population voted Tory at the last election so it's very, very far from half of the population.

Yeah I didn’t get that from the post at all. It seems others on the thread also read it from the viewpoint that the nurse was talking about sharing a ward as a patient and not a professional

Nosleepforthismum · 06/10/2023 06:11

Problem is that the Tories are in power because a good chunk of the population have voted them in. This means it’s likely that a good chunk of patients voted Tory (or their parents as it’s paediatrics) and it does read as though if this nurse found out their political preference, they would be treated differently. Plus, it’s using the trans debate which tends to be a contentious topic, to really drive home the level of hatred towards the tories whilst also being offensive towards trans people at the same time. She’s an idiot for posting this and it wouldn’t surprise me to see it reported.
