Just curious to see what the answers here might be.

Feel free to answer any way you like, and I don't care about derailing. The question is quite tongue in cheek, don't take it too seriously, and have fun with it if you want, rant if you want. I'm trying to get a picture of the MN mood.

No.

I am anti gender-woo but you’d have to be a real single-issue-voter to let it decide your vote. The general tide of opinion is moving against gender woo anyway, so the Labour position is also moving in the direction of sanity.

And yet the Labour leader states 1 in 1000 women have a penis and criticises one of his own MPs for saying only women can have a cervix.

That doesn't inspire me to vote for him.

There is no one labour spokes person offering one and only one point of policy and view on that though.

@SaffronSpice
Wales too gets more money per head of population than England again because of the Barnett formula.

They have less money to spend on things like the NHS because the tories fund labour and non conservative areas worse than their own areas, so the voters say just what you’ve said and are more likely to vote for the tories next time. England is awful under the tories, don’t think the grass is greener here.

do you remember when the tories implemented austerity measures to try to reduce the public debit and cut all public services, arts council, nhs, social services to the bone? Well how did that turn out? They’ve added to the debt significantly without adding any value for ordinary people. At least when labour created debt we all benefited. The tories rich mates are doing better than ever though!

Scotland is better funded per head than England due to the Barnett formula and also pays higher taxes, so no they do not have less funding than England. And the NHS and Education is worse here by objective measures not anecdote.

I am a centrist (in relation the UK political positions). I believe governance benefits from regular change of those in power and the Tories are tired and could do with a spell out of power. I wanted to be able to vote Labour but if they lie about something as fundamental as claiming we can ‘change’ sex, then I cannot trust them to look after women’s rights, or anything else.

There is no one labour spokes person offering one and only one point of policy and view on that though. The tories are chasing popular opinion within their voter base (typically older people) and would do a full 180 tomorrow if they thought it would bring them more votes. But if you’re a single issue voter colouring the pages to suit your narrative, by all means keep going with that one as you are.

How will Labour improve the NHS? Social services? Number of women raping women with their penis? Why has the NHS and Social Services got even worse in Wales under Labour, or Scotland (with their higher taxes) under the SNP, than in England under the Tories? The NHS is still paying off debt from Labour’s PFI

Christina you’re already losing rights under this government. Don’t be naive. Women have to retire later and the deterioration of the nhs and social services have meant more women are expected to step in and care for both children and parents, while working full time, as heaven forbid we’re not “economically active”. And the underfunding of the nhs has lead to terrible maternity services, women’s medical issues are underfunded and under supported and the police have an all time low trust level in regards to women. More men get away with violent crime against women and rape. Don’t be blinded by a very niche issue that is being addressed and will continue to be as you’re literally a frog in a pot of water who hasn’t noticed the temperature has reached boiling point.

also don’t doubt for a second that antisemitism, islamophobia and sexism are the bedrock of the tories however much they use black and brown people as their mouthpieces.

What have the Tories done that makes you think they will protect women's rights?

ChristinaXYZ · 06/11/2023 16:44

Weefreetiffany · 03/10/2023 14:03

I wouldn’t vote for the tories ever. They have done the most damage to society and the economy in 11 years than any previous government. Can’t vote for more of the same, in good conscience, could you?

They inherited the deficit from Labour remember. So they are hardly the worst. Not saying they're great, clearly they are not. But it does not help to make up reasons when there are many real reasons not to.

I will hold my nose and vote for the current government because if we loose rights we will never get them back. Labour will take all women backward, much further backward than anything the Tories will do - wealthy or poor. But the poorest will suffer the most as always. Middle class virtue signalling Labour supporters won't have to share a prison cell with a male bodied person, nor battered women's refuges (as middle class women more likely to have friends with spare rooms).

If Kemi was in charge then I would vote very happily for the Tories.

I am a floating voter and have voted often for Labour but I will not do so until the current crop are gone with their 99% comments. And they clearly have not properly dealt with the antisemitism problem. So many front benchers backed Corbyn - it is unbelieveable.

The most capable Labour MP is Wes Streeting but he is a bit of a weather vane and did seem to be very keen on gender ideologies though he has rowed back a bit and apologised to Rosie Duffield. Whilst that is great, I still don't quite trust him. I would like to vote Labour again one day and he is someone who I might have voted for till his capturing by Stonewall ideas. Rather a shame.

Which science fiction book gave you this fever dream? Or was it GB News and the Express?

The Labour led Welsh Senedd and the Labour voting record in the Scottish Parliament.

what fever dream suggested to you that they won’t? The Guardian?

newnamethanks · 06/11/2023 13:16

There must be something in the water at Con headquarters. Loopier by the day.

MadeleineMummy · 06/11/2023 11:48

SaffronSpice · 01/11/2023 16:42

Labour won’t do more of the same - they will allow self ID so the word ‘woman’ becomes meaningless. Women’s rights will no longer exist because women will no longer exist as a distinctive group from men. The word woman will also be removed from literature and anyone suggesting a man is not a woman would be liable for arrest for a hate crime. Labour would also make it illegal to do anything other than affirm a child’s belief that they are the opposite sex and give them harmful treatments. We know this because this is exactly what they are doing and what they are voting for NOW.

How do you know? Are you psychic? Are you happy with the shit show status quo, rather than want to try something different?

How much misery are you going to let other people suffer before you think enough is enough?

They aren't hiding in their laundry rooms, we can all see how the party is operating and hear the things they are saying.

They are all kinds of fucked up.

HelenFisksBrownSuit · 05/11/2023 16:13

This (thanks PP):

No. I admire Kemi and appreciate what she's doing for women's rights.

I don't think all Tories are bastards or whatever. I'm utterly sick of Labour's cowardice and the appalling attitude of some of its MPs and supporters.

But I do not agree with Conservatives economically or on general "how people tick" or "how to treat members of a society fairly" issues.

I'm not convinced party politics is working tbh. I'd prefer cross party cooperation on stuff like women's rights, NHS and climate.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/11/2023 01:50

Those scrimping and scraping to afford a house, in London and elsewhere in the UK, are being hammered right now and driven to the brink because of Tory arrogance and incompetence.

They have failed strivers. They have failed the UK. They have failed women and children. They have failed. I cannot think of a single UK sector that has benefited during the past 13 years of Conservative government.

There is no sign, however, that Labour is considering anything so radical.

AlphaTranswoman, sadly, I agree, although they may surprise us.

Wealth tax not only possibility. Was reading various tax reliefs could be changed such as ensuring private equity firms are taxed on certain receipts as income rather than capital gains which is a lower rate. Labour have said they will probably do this at least.

I saw someone suggest the following too:

“A national property tax is ultimately what Labour should be pushing for. Unlike most wealth taxes there's lots of precedent for these working, it would be simpler to administer and more progressive than council tax, and could even encourage empty nesters to downsize quicker (or take on lodgers) so freeing up housing units. Rudimentary figures I've been able to work out are immense - a 1% annual property tax (which would be in line with what many US States do) would double the revenue we get from Council Tax. And whilst I get the unease at nationalising our only local tax, the uneven distribution of property wealth, really means that it shouldn't be linked to locality”.

Or this:

“It won't make a whole lot of difference to the overall tax take, but switching Council Tax over to a flat 0.5% of (current) property values would do a lot to make that system fairer. It would require a revaluation, and a law change to make sure subsequent revaluations actually happen, but would be perfectly doable. And yes well-paid editors and columnists would harrumph loudly and call it communism, but when most people realised their council tax bill was actually lower I suspect the fuss would die down.”

So a family living in London or South East living in a semi or small detached valued at £1million which they probably had to scrimp and save to buy would now be landed with a 1% or £10,000 per year additional tax bill?
Do you really think that's a good idea?
