Yes¡ Just done a little victory dance. I hope it really is as good as it sounds.

On Tuesday, Steve Barclay will announce proposals to push back against “wokery” in the health service that has led to women’s rights being increasingly sidelined. The changes would give men and women the right to be cared for on wards only shared by people of their own biological sex, and to have intimate care provided by those of the same sex.Mr Barclay said the plan would mean the return of “a common-sense approach to sex and equality”, ensuring that women’s dignity was protected and their voices heard. The proposals follow concerns from patients and staff about biological men being allowed on to women’s hospital wards. In 2021, NHS guidance said trans patients could be placed on single-sex wards on the basis of the gender with which they identified.

Thanks!

I wrote to Victoria Atkins asking for an update, will post here if she gets back to me.

Reviving an old thread here, but was curious to know if anyone has heard anything further on the consultation regarding trans patiens on single sex wards? I can't find any information regarding the consultation that Steve Barclay mentioned and no further media articles in the past 6 months.

Thank you @ArabellaScott you're right and I feel embarrassed for even posting that comment! Have asked MNHQ to scrub it so I don't derail the thread with my oversharing 😳

I hope you didn't think I was making a judgemental comment. Finding our voices and boundaries is a lifelong task for many of us and female socialisation can make it hard to distinguish true assertiveness. Don't be embarrassed.

The RCN have deleted the comments which challenged their response.
Its all so disappointing and b annoying.

Cowards.

Froodwithatowel · 04/10/2023 20:16

It says a great deal that they have to protect their narrative by hiding information anyone might see that 'turns them'.

Heresy. It's heresy. Crucifixes and chanting and exorcisms, just all rebranded.

he knows exactly what a women is because he married one.

None of them are ever rushing to have a relationship with a transwomen, are they?

Of course, funnily enough <hollow laugh> transwomen are invariably ‘lesbians’ (otherwise known as straight men), so their target is …. once again …. women.

This impacts on men like Goodall and Crick in absolutely no way at all. So they have no right to wade in and throw other’s people’s valid, lived concerns under the bus.

So entitled and misgyonist they think women's rights are theirs to give away and women's bodies are theirs to pimp to abusers to protect the feelings of male fantatists.

Lewis Goodall is your classic middle class luxury believer, TRSOH etc etc

he knows exactly what a women is because he married one.

Peregrina · 04/10/2023 16:44

A couple of days ago, a person on TwitterX was whining because women’s pants were too skimpily-cut to contain his…well, yeah.

Oh poor dear. What he needs is a pair of those 'directoire' knickers like his great granny used to wear.

As for the Tory Conference - criticise them for being a bunch of rabid right wing nutters, not the one half way sensible policy they have managed to announce.

Now the danger is not just trans activist radicalism and tran allies energy, it's also the swathe of people in positions of influence like Crick who wave it thru, who don't provide any skeptical resistance. The rot has set in very deep indeed.

People like Crick have always been the TRA, who do you think got the GRA and GR in the EqA?

I'm really naive on this. I wouldn't have guessed.

From the younger generation of journalists, Lewis Goodall also looks like a totally captured TRA media figure.

He's just done a borderline panicky breathy piece on The NewsAgents podcast about the "transphobic" Tory conference.

I just didn't get how broadly and deeply this ran in the media.

I realise the debate has moved on, but I’m just catching up with the thread. A couple of days ago, a person on TwitterX was whining because women’s pants were too skimpily-cut to contain his…well, yeah. A further comment (may have been from the same person, I can’t remember now) observed that sometimes SRS seemed an appealing option but then how would that work for those enjoyable moments of gender-fluidity?

Why does society need to care about this at all?

It doesn’t, not in the slightest.

If supposedly single sex wards/bays arent the norm now, how come all of the trans males aren't up in arms about sharing sleeping areas with manky cis men already?

Lives are at stake here.

Odd isn't it?

I'm waiting for the howls from activists when loads of chancers start self identifying in order to get what they perceive to be better treatment from having a private room...

The irony klaxon will be loud.

But I don't understand. I thought nobody would ever identify as trans to gain some sort of advantage for themselves?

Crick. A man happy to wave away right and protections for women in favour of happy feelings for men.

We have a term for this.

I believe it's men's rights activist. Or male chauvinist pig. Take your pick.

While I agree with pretty much all of your post, Frood, I think on this bit:

And if there's all these separate bays with separate doors and toileting areas then there's no problem finding a safe, private and dignified space for someone with a TQ+ identity

you may be mixing up 'bay' with 'room'.

A bay has a door (usually), and separate toileting facilities (usually), and 6 to 8 beds. It's a small ward; not a private room.

There are very rarely going to be enough trans patients needing care from a particular speciality to justify setting aside a whole bay. They would go in the individual side rooms usually used for infection control and very end of life care.

Froodwithatowel · 04/10/2023 13:49

Oh and I'll add - I'll also go for an honest mixed sex space over someone saying 'you must pretend that man isn't a man or we'll do you for hate crime/withdraw your care'.

Stuff of the bloody Stasi.

Froodwithatowel · 04/10/2023 13:42

Crick is fine with the occasional woman's life being destroyed and her being severely injured if men are happy.

That's about all you need to know about that individual and his 'side of history', and how human he is able to perceive females as.

The NHS and government are up front about mixed sex wards being wrong, a problem, they can list and provide the researched problems, they're a last resort when there are no other options.

I am much, much happier with being told 'look, this is shit, we wish we didn't have to do this and we'll fix it as soon as we can, but right now all we can offer is a mixed sex ward' than I am with a bloke helicoptering his dick up and down the women's ward - and a MNetter nurse has explained her experiences of such patients, they're not rare ones - or climbing on me at 2am, and having nurses look me in the eye and say 'that's a woman, you were not raped, there is no dick, these are not the droids you're looking for'

One is unfortunate and needs fixing but it is at least honest, and the long term goal can be that the NHS is not the underfunded, swamped wreck it currently is. The second is intentional gaslighting based on male supremacism, and providing non-consenting vulnerable women to a male who wants to use them, with nothing more than a bit of hope that he doesn't break one of his toys while playing with them. I honestly don't care at this point if he just wants to be among vulnerable, undressed, anxious and upset women for the validation or the buzz, or whether he wants to explore those women a bit further; it's all just points on the same scale. Either women are autonomous and equal to males or we're walking toys for men without rights to refuse. In which case stop all the shit about 'oh men change sex' and 'sex is a spectrum' and own the belief in action which is 'women are born with a sex based birthright to have no needs or feelings or right to withhold their biology from any bloke who feels entitled, particularly the special ones'.

And if there's all these separate bays with separate doors and toileting areas then there's no problem finding a safe, private and dignified space for someone with a TQ+ identity while not sacrificing the safety, privacy, dignity, consent and humanity on an altar to him of every woman on the women's ward. Is there?

HagoftheNorth · 04/10/2023 13:40

Of course it’s unfair, but frankly, I’d rather the transwomen were in private rooms on the men’s ward than in the women’s ward. In fact I think private rooms on the women’s ward was considered by a hospital in Scotlan. This resulted in howls from TRA groups that transwomen were being discriminated against by being denied access to non-consenting women

Igmum · 04/10/2023 13:31

It's still good news. Agree we are likely to see some idiotic TRA behaviour. I guess the NHS will need to hone its collective response (bed with curtains).

RedToothBrush · 04/10/2023 12:38

IncomingTraffic · 04/10/2023 12:26

Oh definitely.

But the TRAs are absolutely against the need for a medical diagnosis to demonstrate transgender as a medical need. Everyone who says they are trans must be trans - except for the ever growing list of chancers who recognise the potential for preferential treatment.

We’ll have hospital-admission-onset cases alongside the prison-onset cases of transgender all over the place.

And you couldn’t possibly even claim that only identifying as the opposite sex when you fund yourself in state-provided residential accommodation is being a chancer. Nope. Gender fluidity is sacred.

But it really is not women’s job to square that circle.

Maybe we should all acquire the kind of gender fluidity that gets you a private room in hospital.

But remember you can't have trauma feelings that might allow you to request a XX member of staff or a private room.

Cos 'equality and inclusion'.

The worst bit is all the hospital managers with their Stonewall accreditation know damn well they are going to get all these chancers looking for private rooms too. And that's one of the reasons they didn't want this 'ban', because they now have to get their staff to manage the delusional patients who in denial about sex and the chancers after a private room. Meanwhile the women who just want to retain their dignity, 'just want to pee' and not worry about a bloke cracking one off next to them (or worse) are going to get the blame for this mess or will be just forgotten about (as per usual).
