NC for this.
For a long time I have always said to myself if a LWS event came near to me, the least I could do was go along and show solidarity. Seeing what has happened elsewhere has made me so angry, it would be time to stand up and be counted.

Now there is an event next week, and I'm really surprised how nervous, even scared I am about going along just to listen, and really just wanted to reach out for advice, support, whatever.

I'm worried about the vitriol of protesters, the attitude of the police. I have worked in pretty 'captured' sectors and am concerned about being identified on social media, or by acquaintances - I'm fairly sure there'll be old contacts, people I like and who I have had time for - protesting or certainly vocally supporting the shutting down of KJK on the day. I guess I personally run the risk of being publicly 'outed' and losing friends and contacts that will have a real impact on things I do that mean a great deal to me.

Yet I feel if I don't go I will always regret not standing up and showing KJK support on my doorstep. I'm even worried about DM-ing the local Women's Rights Network as I tweet with my full name. Perhaps if anyone is on this board they can PM here, or give some info about plans for the day?

Sorry I haven't seen any threads about this LWS event so apologies if there is one already.

Having managed to keep smiling yesterday and distance myself from all of the vitriol and abuse, and the 'in your face' encounters - that went on for two whole hours....I'm now feeling a lot of residual anger and rage - towards woke bros generally and towards those fucking idiotic kids who are not capable of practising what they preach. In fact I came down with a full on lights flashing/ zig zag lines migraine earlier

I hear you. I wasn't great today either tbh.

To reply to a remark about the Letts article. There's nothing in it which is untrue about what we women had to put up with yesterday. Including the screaming person with the back to front pizza box, and the big shouty beardy men, and "Robbie", and the ululating and the pure vindictive hate.

I toughed it out aIso. I didn't know anyone else there. I have neurological health issues, and thought: if I go down here with a seizure, away from the main group of women, I might get a kicking from some of these feckers. I can't even go to the Liverpool Brain Charity events because of the ageist anti terf crap coming out the LGBTQI++ handful who have captured it.

And the article "sniggering" about the situation was directed towards the arsewipes screaming at us, and not at the women trying to speak. So no apologies from me for saying that it made me smile, albeit temporarily. I'm fully aware of who QL is and why it was written. i hope people read it and think WTF?

That's how it was on Sunday. I'm all out of hopefully looking for responsible reporting, it's thin on the ground. For yesterday, I'll take a widely read piss take as vindication of what I saw and experienced.

As for the Fire Brigades Union, I'll save chapter and verse on them for another day.

youi'd not be concerened with what people in the Labour party think. We know what they think. They've told us. Believe it.

So who the fuck do we vote for next year?

I cannot vote Tory. I just cannot.

FarEast · 09/10/2023 18:30

Honestly I'm at the point where any time I see an organisation talking about diversity but only flying this flag, I'm.going to assume that they actively discriminate against the other protected characteristics until it's fully proven otherwise.

Indeed. Where I work, rainbow lanyards & "progress" pride flags galore, but my colleague with quite limited mobility regularly finds that the disabled parking spot nearest a lecture hall (which is up a steep hill) is commandeered by builders' vans or otherwise unavailable - and not by another person with a blue badge. It's careless & thoughtless.

So the ACTUAL simple everyday things which allow employees with mobility impediments are overlooked, while interviewees for jobs are asked about "how they have implemented EDI policies."

There was a report the other day about a female surgeon, I'm not sure if it was more than one, actually being sexually assaulted while she was trying to perform surgery.

1 in 3 women surgeous sexually assaulted by colleagues in the past 5 years (not all while actually operating).

And a recent WRN report revealed 6,500 sex attacks over 3 years (not sure if that was on patients and staff, or patients only) in English hospitals. That's 6 a day.

Ms Parker was at her microphone, saying women felt threatened by trans zealots.

The trans lot countered this suggestion by surrounding the small knot of feminists and screaming at them violently for more than an hour.

What a great few lines

Sums it up

Sounds really bad @RebelliousCow

I believe you

I'm worried that everything we've worked for will be tossed aside as a Tory talking point/election strategy after the GE.

Yes, i get it some people are more concerned with who they are seen to be, or supposed to be, associated with - but if you had been subject to what we were yesterday ( were you there?) - including by conference delegates and trade union reps and other activists - youi'd not be concerened with what people in the Labour party think. We know what they think. They've told us. Believe it.

Being " associated" with the Conservative party is the very least of our worries. This shit is actually happening and everyone is going to vote for it, thereby endorsing it.

Sorry to say but the Letts article is sniggering and dismissive.

Its written to get a laugh and in fact shows that the DM is no more committed to GC politics than any other corporation. For them it is just a handy angle to write anti Labour comments.

Its the sort of article that if if was the local tv news, would be the one at the end about a funny dog, or a lollipop lady retiring after 90s years of helping the little dears across the road.

And of course no other paper has written about it.

Why would they care about women being silenced when they can smooze and get gossip at the conference.

(Apparently the Labour Conference has something like twice the number of stalls than previous years, and the vast majority are businesses.)

Strong agree and I think this is how we are going to see increasing amounts of articles leading up to the general election.

I'm concerned this only cements the existing association (amongst many) with the Conservative party, what's going to happen if (when?) they lose?

I agree. I do not like the Quentin Letts, never have.

But hey, they make tshirts with the progress pride flag on them 🙄

Wasn't there a report about widespread misogyny in the Fire Service?

Imnobody4 · 09/10/2023 15:58

Sorry haven't read the whole thread, but I was gobsmacked by the audacity of this - one of the shouting men is member of fire service union.

I've just had the YouTube footage playing while I did other stuff, but stopped to re-watch the woman who spoke about being sexually assaulted as a nurse, when 3 other nurses (men) watched & encouraged it.

I was flabbergasted.

Does this still happen in the NHS? Excuse me for being naive, but it was shocking.

Thanks for the heads up Baron, I've just checked again online. It's like it never happened.

Froodwithatowel · 09/10/2023 13:10

Glad the article noted the tide of aggressive filth emanating from the mob.

Women trying to speak. Men behaving like thugs. Thank you for the very clear demo. That's the world Starmer et al think is 'the right side of history'.

They identify as being sane too.

Tallisker · 09/10/2023 12:29

I'm amazed afresh at KJK's sloganning genius. Let Women Speak - and the thugs scream No! Nothing to do with trans anything, just women being prevented from speaking. Great optics (not) for the screamers.

EasternStandard · 09/10/2023 11:58

NotTerfNorCis · 09/10/2023 07:29

Just seen the footage of men screaming abuse like 'shut your fcking mouth you stupid fcking tart'. So many aggressive, abusive men there. I don't know how TRAs can think this is a good look.

It’s the norm for TRAs

Why are we even entertaining this stuff anymore

They are thugs

BaronMunchausen · 09/10/2023 11:56

Not just because all those Labour women who mumble the agreed line, but because Labour Women's Declaration, who are also gender critical, wont speak up about women being harangued so that their voices are drowned out, because of who the messenger is.

One or two women who were there yesterday will also be at the LWD tonight. I suspect it will be mentioned as a concern that should be addressed regardless of feelings about KJK. The LWD venue has been held back for a lot longer for fear of the MRAs than LWS was.

Agree with what pp have said about Letts. An example of the pen being mightier than the sword indeed.

Am surprised that the Echo do not appear to have covered it as yet. Perhaps something will be incoming today. Very much expected a predictable first-person piece from one of their legion LGBT+ activist reporters full of the usual biased guff.

I'd guess that the Echo currently have their in-house TRA Paul McAuley refining propaganda so it passes as journalism to the casual reader.
