NC for this.
For a long time I have always said to myself if a LWS event came near to me, the least I could do was go along and show solidarity. Seeing what has happened elsewhere has made me so angry, it would be time to stand up and be counted.

Now there is an event next week, and I'm really surprised how nervous, even scared I am about going along just to listen, and really just wanted to reach out for advice, support, whatever.

I'm worried about the vitriol of protesters, the attitude of the police. I have worked in pretty 'captured' sectors and am concerned about being identified on social media, or by acquaintances - I'm fairly sure there'll be old contacts, people I like and who I have had time for - protesting or certainly vocally supporting the shutting down of KJK on the day. I guess I personally run the risk of being publicly 'outed' and losing friends and contacts that will have a real impact on things I do that mean a great deal to me.

Yet I feel if I don't go I will always regret not standing up and showing KJK support on my doorstep. I'm even worried about DM-ing the local Women's Rights Network as I tweet with my full name. Perhaps if anyone is on this board they can PM here, or give some info about plans for the day?

Sorry I haven't seen any threads about this LWS event so apologies if there is one already.

I don’t get why the Pampers wear masks. There are only 2 reasons people do this at demos I can think of: they know they’re doing something transgressive & want to protect their ID from the authorities, or they want to intimidate people. Ok, we know it’s both of these - but when they’re there precisely to promote themselves as the righteous & show up women as the bullies & bigots, how do they reconcile it to themselves? It’s like, We’ll show the world how nasty those women are… by hiding our identities in an overtly intimidating way that implies we know we’re the ones at fault really? I don’t get it?

The only thing I can think is that they want to create the impression that they’re scared the speakers will come & get ‘em - y’ know, those scary speakers they’re aggressively crowding who are half their size, happy to show their faces as they’re on the right sure if the law (& history 😂), & protected - we hope - by police?

I don’t geddit. Been wondering for a while.

I hope the day goes well.

The wee lads in pink balaclavas actually look very sweet. I hope someone has brought juice and biccies for them.

Thingybob · 08/10/2023 12:50

Why do so many warriors for truth and social justice cover their faces?

I don't know the answer to that but was just watching this short clip. Are we really supposed to take these 'warriors' seriously?

Isn't it amazing I can tell their sex, and have a good guess at their age, even with their faces covered

duc748 · 08/10/2023 12:43

Found it! Say hi if you see me, wearing a red Warriorrs top.

Helleofabore · 08/10/2023 12:36

Good luck to all who come to hear women speak! And I hope the police will be as good as they usually are in forming a barrier.

Some of those protester’s tweets have required klaxon alerts for excessive use of hyperbole and emotional scaremongering.

A bunch of Black Pampers have turned out there. LWS Stewards keeping them off. Hope everyone is safe. https://twitter.com/Wommando/status/1710979672962404416

Where is the live stream?

Careful on the cobblestones ladies - and go easy on the MRAs!

Aye,don't go alarming them with those TERFy t shirts.

IcakethereforeIam · 08/10/2023 11:46

All the best to all the SFW attendees (and attende?). Remember, when you walk through a storm, hold your head up high and don't be afraid of the dark. And the weather looks nice today 😊 perhaps you'll get a golden sky!

VaddaABeetch · 08/10/2023 11:36

So jealous of you getting to attend. I dithered & flights got too expensive. That’ll learn me.

Will be watching live to capture some of the TERF energy.

duc748 · 08/10/2023 10:34

Waiting for train to Lime Street now. Ran like a maniac to catch it, and it's 25 mins late! 🤪

ValancyRedfern · 08/10/2023 08:54

Good Luck to everyone. I hope you have an amazing day. I have a friend at the LP conference who I really hope sees you all and it makes her think.

Up much too late for boring reasons, but someone sent me this link.

Honestly they try so hard to create the rumours that they are the victims of violence, whereas its the other way round!

You may wish to note that members of the transphobic group, Let Women Speak, may use Avanti's rail services to Liverpool on or around 8th October. Trans+ passengers may be intimidated, causing a breach of the peace.

I've really got to try and stay off social media today as it will be no good for my health. And it will be so upsetting to see people I know and like falling for this. It has got me surprisingly emotional - it is just not fair.

As the OP unfortunately a family health situation means I can no longer attend, but as others have said I will watch the livestream when possible, and have made a donation to SFW in the hope it does a small bit to help keep everyone safe today. Good luck to everyone going.

It should be great The Hyde park one I went to was very well organised

duc748 · 07/10/2023 22:53

Well, I've bought a train ticket... 😀

IwantToRetire · 07/10/2023 22:24

Just wishing everyone well tomorrow.

The stupidly alarmist notices from the TRAs is just them trying to inflate how awful their life is. Can you imagine the optics to passers by, male adolescents masked and wearing black, shouting at a group of women having a conversation. I do hope they will have brought enough nappies and dummies as I am sure they will all be suffering deep trauma and will need comforters.

But meantime I am sure the meeting will be great, and everyone will have a good time. And some are brave enough to speak!

I always hope there will be some sort of communal singing at the end, but cant think what song it would be.

Unfortunately I think I am not going to be able to watch the live stream live - but will try and catch up later.

BingBongSong · 07/10/2023 21:47

I can't make it tomorrow as I've a regular volunteering slot till 3pm, but I'll be watching it later on Livestream. Hope tomorrow goes well, everyone!

Moomoola · 07/10/2023 21:44

Aww, would love to be there. Absolutely go, it’s such a good thing to be doing x

ArabellaScott · 07/10/2023 21:40
