NC for this.
For a long time I have always said to myself if a LWS event came near to me, the least I could do was go along and show solidarity. Seeing what has happened elsewhere has made me so angry, it would be time to stand up and be counted.

Now there is an event next week, and I'm really surprised how nervous, even scared I am about going along just to listen, and really just wanted to reach out for advice, support, whatever.

I'm worried about the vitriol of protesters, the attitude of the police. I have worked in pretty 'captured' sectors and am concerned about being identified on social media, or by acquaintances - I'm fairly sure there'll be old contacts, people I like and who I have had time for - protesting or certainly vocally supporting the shutting down of KJK on the day. I guess I personally run the risk of being publicly 'outed' and losing friends and contacts that will have a real impact on things I do that mean a great deal to me.

Yet I feel if I don't go I will always regret not standing up and showing KJK support on my doorstep. I'm even worried about DM-ing the local Women's Rights Network as I tweet with my full name. Perhaps if anyone is on this board they can PM here, or give some info about plans for the day?

Sorry I haven't seen any threads about this LWS event so apologies if there is one already.

Steph, are you here complaining about what posters on another website are saying? What do you want from us? We are not, sadly, the internet police.

How is having blue hair a sign of your sexuality?

Funny how we keep getting told no one can tell if a person is a man or a woman these days without genital checks but you can spot someone who is LGB by their hair 🙄

The person who made the comment appeared to be a "TERF".

I'm not a "TERF" so I don't know the answer.

ApocalipstickNow · 08/10/2023 18:03

These certainly aren't terms LGBT people and their allies would use.

So we should be using LGBT and ally approved terms like cunt, then?

Got it.

Can we talk about all the hateful and abusive comments made in the Youtube live chat against LGBT people?

Can we talk about the constant stream of unfounded accusations and abusive posts that extreme trans activists post here on Mumsnet? And can we discuss the constant stream of deeply prejudiced and scolding posts for people who have little understanding of what women are discussing here on Mumsnet?

CampervanKween · 08/10/2023 17:58

Very funny, my kids are always going on about the "blue haired weirdos" it's a definite stereotype nowadays. They are people to be avoided at all costs apparently as they're utterly humourless pitas. There seems a preponderance of fat blokes with beards as well in the anti women crowds. Again, people to be avoided irl.

How about "tr**ns" and "blue haired weirdos"?

How about you go and tell them off at the places your find these terms used and step scolding posters here for other people’s actions? If this is the level of engagement you seek here, you will be disappointed. No posters can use those terms and not get deleted.

RealityFan · 08/10/2023 17:57

How about "tr**ns" and "blue haired weirdos"?

How young are you? Check out the abuse short people, redheads etc get. Then compare to your "list".

More importantly, check the C and F words used at LWS at Liverpool today, and give us your genuine comparison to "blue haired weirdos".

WickedSerious · 08/10/2023 17:51

It's not much of a list is it?

LGB? Doubtful but happy to comment on an example.

T? Well everything is hateful and abusive isn't it. Again, happy to comment on an example.

why don’t you pop over to scold them then Steph rather than hanging around wagging your fingers at the women here

Hope that's all that Steph is wagging at women.

RealityFan · 08/10/2023 17:33

WickedSerious · 08/10/2023 17:08

Let's have a list then.

You can't change sex, men can't become women, teens shouldn't be medicalised, gender teaching in schools should be made known to parents...none of these statements are transphobic.

Shouting at women they're Cs, promoting punching TERFs...all of these statements are misogynistic.

Just so we're clear, yes?

lady69 · 08/10/2023 17:29

Men who struggle with women having a public voice are a bit special aren’t they. They are so lacking, so weak. So failed as men.

ApocalipstickNow · 08/10/2023 17:14

No Step- because this is Mumsnet not YouTube, in case there’s any confusion.

WickedSerious · 08/10/2023 17:14

ArabellaScott · 08/10/2023 16:46

The 'protestors', the mob, have pre-decided that they are going to shout at 'fascists'.

They have no idea what the women are going to speak about.

They apparently don't think for a second that an event called 'Let Women Speak', might be about ... women speaking.

I always wonder if any of them listen. And I wonder if any of them have a moment, while they are chanting 'fucking terfs shut the fuck up' ...

It's like a dog thinking that the vacuum cleaner is it's mortal enemy and deciding it must be destroyed at all costs.

Absolutely. Happy to discuss any examples that you can share and will join you in decrying any that are inappropriate.

WallaceinAnderland · 08/10/2023 16:57

This seems apt today:

Speak your truth quietly
and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.

Boiledbeetle · 08/10/2023 16:53

Winnading · 08/10/2023 16:41

Quick, send it to boiled. She knows her stuff, it might make it into vol 2 of womens poems or vol 3, either one.
Or maybe boiled can find five fellas willing to sing it? Maybe become as big and famous as the original.

Oh you meant to post that in a nasty way? Oh well if theres one thing women on here are very good at, it comedy.

We actually have reworked words for a song going in volume 2 thanks to cyclingsam. It's really good! It's to the tune of Kenny Rogers the gambler!

(And people keep saying volume 3!!! I've made a rod for my own back haven't I!)

WickedSerious · 08/10/2023 16:48

beeswaxinc · 08/10/2023 16:36

Can’t win can they!

Anything aggressive or angry, it apparently shows how they are just violent misogynists, not angry enough for you to be able to complain about then they don’t really believe in their own cause 🙄

Heartbreaking innit?

RealityFan · 08/10/2023 16:47

BlackForestCake · 08/10/2023 15:48

I do not wish to minimise the threatening behaviour of the counter-protesters, or the actual assaults on women that have taken place.

But there seems to be a lot of play-acting here. If they actually believe these women are Nazis, and there are way more on the counter side, why don't they break through the police lines and rush them?

That's what antifascists did to the Mosley movement in the 30s and the National Front in the 70s and it's one of the reasons fascism was never really able to get off the ground in Britain. That's what I'd do if I believed actual real Nazis were organising and their meetings were getting bigger all the time and I believed they were going to kill my friends.

So on some level they all know perfectly well that the women speaking aren't really fascists and women talking doesn't actually kill people.

Of course they don't. These boys have heard about the real work of proper SJWs of the past, the ones that really got their heads and bodies broken to push genuine societal change.

Shouting the C word through any number of banaclavas and umbrellas and placards at working class women, older women, lesbians, rape and DV survivors, who in the past would have been at Greenham Common or Orgreave or Grunwick and Dagenham picket lines, is not even cos playing, it's Incels-R-Us support group day out with the Andrew Tate playbook in their pocket.
