Employment Tribunal starts next Monday, not sure if it is available for remote viewing.

I have sent a request so we will see.

So we're in. Cameras are supposed to be on but microphones off, vast majority of observers have camera off. We can see Jo and Ben and the presumably observers behind them, but not the panel. We can hear a female voice speaking, but we can't hear Ben speaking.

They started introductions and Ben was asked for his pronouns.

Justin is the IT guy trying to connect Jo's solicitor, I suspect we may hear more from him over the coming days.

Fucking hell. That's really, really bad.

How the hell is this Judge impartial??

I would like to have seen the look on BC's face.

ickky · 02/10/2023 11:23

I have video, but also all the little boxes of guests are showing.

What the fuck?

Melissamelisante · 02/10/2023 11:22

Fuckin' 'ell 'pronouns'? Impartial eh?!

LipbalmOrKnickers · 02/10/2023 11:22

Can I ask - does everyone else have video? I just have 'no-one is presenting' and full audio.

CriticalCondition · 02/10/2023 11:20

Name and pronouns??

WTF? Is that a joke?

ickky · 02/10/2023 11:21

Oh dear, judge asked for BC's pronouns. ffs

OP posts:
LipbalmOrKnickers · 02/10/2023 11:20

'Please give pronunciation of name AND YOUR PRONOUN'

WTH??

CriticalCondition · 02/10/2023 11:20

Name and pronouns??

CriticalCondition · 02/10/2023 11:20

Keep cameras on??!!

ickky · 02/10/2023 11:20

Judge is saying cameras should be on but audio muted. My camera is off as are the majority of observers.

I have no video 'no-one is presenting' but audio. We have to keep cameras on??

LipbalmOrKnickers · 02/10/2023 11:17

I just hope if it's court-based faffing with tech that doesn't end up costing Jo money because of lost hours. Her KC still has to be paid.

This is a very good point. I, and lots of other, poorly paid women will have contributed to Jo's costs and it's not acceptable for them to be eating into her costs, using up our money, due to being incompetent. If I was this crap at setting up online meetings and / or hadn't agreed whether or not a meeting could happen online ahead of time I'd lose my job.

I am feeling cross. This case has importance for all women who believe in the scientific fact of two sexes in all mammals (which has been a fact for millions of years) and that this fact matters. It is important for our employment rights and freedom of speech.

This is only confirming my strong suspicion that women in this country are being priced / delayed out of justice.

There is absolutely no excuse for this, they will have known how many people wanted access ahead of time and surely this could have been sorted ahead of time. It's not as if this hasn't happened before.

I got automatically chucked out of the waiting room after an hour. Back in again. Glad to say that my inbox and bathrooms are now sparkling clean as a result of the looong wait.

Has anyone who was near Watford and thinking of attending made it to the court? If so could you let us know if it is underway and they are just struggling with tech issues?

LipbalmOrKnickers · 02/10/2023 11:01

Just got booted and had to reconnect.

Puddlelane123 · 02/10/2023 11:01

Also waiting - and glad to know I wasn’t the only one who suspected a hidden meaning to the wildlife reference.

Last minute settlements at the door of the court are common. However, I think the dynamic involved in settling just before the hearing doesn't work for these crowd-funded gender identity-related cases. At that point, the claimant has a massive sense of grievance, and an overwhelming desire to make public what they've experienced, and they've gone through a lot of effort and stress to raise the money, and they have little to lose by continuing. It's not going to save the claimant any money because the funds raised would need to be returned.

To get a settlement you'd need the defendant to be making an approach earlier and with an offer of a true public apology and institutions like the OU can't afford that. It would hugely enrage the trans activists and they could seek to damage the institution. Better to go into the proceedings with an expectation of losing and making a public display of "ally-ship". That's what I think CGD did.

LipbalmOrKnickers · 02/10/2023 10:58

Absolutely - the whole 'first come first served' basis for observation. We know large numbers can be accommodated - I forget which case (maybe LGB Alliance) - they added a second 'room' for observers due to interest?

Ameanstreakamilewide · 02/10/2023 10:57

ickky · 02/10/2023 10:54

Well they must know in this case as they mentioned the large numbers wanting to observe.

Exactly!

So, why do they seem to respond like it has taken them by surprise. There's always so much dithering about.

They've been using the CVP technology for a while now, so there's no excuse for ineptitude now.
