It'd be good to hear from Easther and Vernie.

Ok even if they parted acrimoniously back in the day, I still don't think it's on to do the pantomime villain thing of 'I'm a proud ally.... and they are not'.

It's childish and as we've seen potentially very damaging to the women who are dissenting from 'allyship'.

Just say you're not doing the reunion and let others speculate on the reasons why which soon becomes yesterday's news.

This!

LondonLass91 · 25/09/2023 12:46

Talk about throw your bandmates under the bus! Releasing a statement like that is despicable.

Shame on Louise and Kelle.

Slothtoes · 25/09/2023 12:38

Sorry reading in haste

Easther apologies for mis-spell
Kelle in same Umbridge camp as Louise unfortunately.

Slothtoes · 25/09/2023 12:30

OK NRTFT just this article. The BBC reported it and even managed not to call them anti- trans! Obviously they aren’t if they’re supporting LGB people, so this seems like a bit of a positive watershed moment for journalism. Times are changing I hope

Stay very strong Esther and Vernie and thank you for standing up for women and LGB people.

(And what a shame that you are actively going with men’s rights activism waged against women and LGB people, Louise Hmm)

Seems like Louise has bullied the other girls out of the band. Then again TRAs are bullies, so....

Clymene · 25/09/2023 11:12

This was because the duo felt that the gay community was being hijacked by the trans community and they do not support this

I agree with them wholeheartedly

Not homophobic, in fact quite the opposite

Actions have consequences

Unless you tell a crowd of aggressive young men to "punch a Terf", and then apparently there are no consequences at all.

MargotBamborough · 25/09/2023 10:59

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 25/09/2023 10:44

That would be really, really relevant if you were a member of the band.

It's just a simple observation.

I don't think many people would willingly choose to resume working with someone who had bullied them in the past.

Helleofabore · 25/09/2023 10:50

If they’re going to hold these views, they can take the consequences without crying “poor me”.

Great stuff. I do hope that every single person who supported prioritising male people’s demands above female people’s needs will ‘take the consequences without crying poor me’ as well.

Because currently ‘those views’ that Easther and Vernie ‘hold’ is reported to be a concern that trans people have hijacked the LGB agenda. Which is not controversial as some LGB people have their own political priorities as a separate group.

Mammogrammer · 25/09/2023 10:45

I need more info on this. Like another poster said many LGB people like attending Pride (I know many don’t too) and this could be interpreted as not wanting to perform at a festival for gay people because their religion sees homosexuality as a sin. I have as much respect and admiration for someone who feels that way as I have for someone who doesn’t respect the right of women to have their own single-sex spaces.

If Louise Redknapp has jumped the gun for the purposes of virtue signalling - she’s done her band mates a disservice by not allowing them to state their reasoning. They are on the back foot and will now need to fend off accusations of homophobia. I’d like to hear a statement from them. Of course they will get enough flack for not supporting the Qs and the Ts as it is. I’m sure Louise is getting a load of support for her ‘inclusivity’ and will be hoping that that ratchets up her record sales and profile.

I’m not going to applaud anyone if their reasoning is a nasty dose of homophobia. And I wouldn’t applaud anyone who is possibly, quite cynically, trying to enhance their own profile off the back of the gay community by all this performative allyship either.

If I had been bullied out of a band I wouldn't have been up for doing a reunion in the first place.

If they’re going to hold these views, they can take the consequences without crying “poor me”.

This sounds threatening. The reports we have are from Louise's publicist who's gone on the record, saying:

"Louise's publicist, Simon Jones, said: 'A message was sent to the team putting together the Eternal reunion stating that if it was to go ahead, neither Vernie nor Easther would perform at Pride shows or LGBTQ+ festivals.

'This was because the duo felt that the gay community was being hijacked by the trans community and they do not support this.
'Louise is a huge supporter and ally of the LGBTQ+ community and both herself and Kelle told the duo they would not work with anyone who held these views, and as such the reunion as a four would not be going ahead.
'The team behind the proposed Eternal reunion are gay including management, PR and tour promoter, and neither myself nor any of the team would work with artists who held such views about the trans community.'"

The view that gay people are adversely affected by this movement is not an unusual one. And it's one that can be evidenced, be it via ROGD in young girls, or the fact lesbians can't even have their own dating spaces.

What "consequences" then, should the two sisters "take"?

You’re being ridiculous. There’s nothing “threatening” about it. The consequences obvious - Louise and Kelle pulling out of the tour.

Their bullying behaviour drove two members out of the band.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 25/09/2023 10:42

MargotBamborough · 25/09/2023 09:23

Well it sounds like she has no issues stabbing them in the back then.

If they’ve said it, how has she stabbed them in the back?

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 25/09/2023 10:40

MargotBamborough · 25/09/2023 09:14

Sounds like something Dolores Umbridge would say.

Can you explain why you think they are so very rotten?

Their bullying behaviour drove two members out of the band.

I haven’t seen any statements by the sisters to say they do not support same sex relationships. I said I would not be surprised if they did not support such relationships due to their religious beliefs. It’s a guess based on an interview I saw many years ago when Esther was talking about the Old Testament and what the Bible meant to her. I could be wrong, but as I said, I would not be surprised if that was the real reason behind the refusal to play Pride. However it would not generate the same media noise that the comments from Louise have done.

I think if anything that would generate more drama.

It would definitely cast Louise in a more positive light and the Bennett sisters in a more negative light if Louise's team were able to say, "The Bennett sisters are homophobic and transphobic" rather than just, "The Bennett sisters are transphobic".

So I highly doubt this is the case.

ArabeIIaScott · 25/09/2023 10:36

It’s a guess

I see, thank you.

FrippEnos · 25/09/2023 09:31

Its not the first time that Louise has thrown someone else under the bus for attention.

StephanieSuperpowers · 25/09/2023 09:27

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 25/09/2023 08:34

Actions have consequences and the Bennett sisters are finding this out. If they’re going to hold these views, they can take the consequences without crying “poor me”.

They’ve always had a reputation as a pretty rotten pair and this has solidified it for me.

I honestly can't see what the issue is. Two people in Eternal (arguably the more talented pair) don't want to play a specific festival because it clashes with their beliefs. They are not in any way trying to persuade any other people that they shouldn't play and they're not saying the festival shouldn't go ahead. So I'm very surprised to see how they're being described here.

Actually there has been no statement from either of the sisters, the press report is based on Louise leaking stuff.

Well it sounds like she has no issues stabbing them in the back then.
