Pseudo scientific bollocks

I have to say as a late 40s woman I’m ambivalent about the current obsession with the menopause, particularly the mention of psychological symptoms

maybe the reason I’m sad/stressed/angry is because something bad has happened/I have too much work/you’re being a dick

it sort of feels a bit like the new ‘she must be on the rag’

Me too.

I am all for employers being sensitive to whatever kinds of health or personal problems their employees are going through. I think it's part of what being a good employer requires. That can include any number of health or other things that go on in a person's life, it's really kind of an infinite list.

But I also don't like this increasing tendency for workers to present themselves and their personal issues to an employer or organisation as if it's the job of said employer to manage the worker's life. Largely, it isn't it's up to workers to deal with their personal life and come to work and be a professional person.

I absolutely do not want my boss looking at me and thinking, "hmm, Ms. Neck there is a middle aged woman, I'd better be aware that should might be having menopause symptoms. Maybe that's why she is grumpy today, better let it go."

RealityFan · 22/09/2023 10:06

Its like "women" is a curse word. A word excommunicated by a religion.

I always wonder, even the professional leftist women who have sold their souls to this beta cuck led cult...are they really happy installing themselves high up in the new caste system by jettisoning "women" from policies and documents like this?

Does their newly enhanced social status obviate the natural human reaction of disquiet and disconnect?

They may feel they're getting rid of The Man, ie traditional anti women patriarchy...but they're replacing it with the same patriarchy, just one wrapped in the soothing colours of the Pride flag and the inclusive language of Stonewall.

Never have so many educated and apparently informed professionals been shown to be so shallow and stupid.

Its quite something to witness real time evidence of the unfitness of so many to be in charge of clearing away dirty plates let alone societal public policies.

I agree. One of the menopause books I read said something along the lines of your distress could be related to menopause but it could also be a rational response to all the stuff you’re dealing with at that stage in your life.

It also worries me that employers will use it as another excuse to avoid hiring women once they no longer have the excuse of ‘she might get pregnant and go on maternity leave’.

Ok, so the only actual mention of the word women on this handout is referring to 'trans women' or 'intersex women'. Nothing about actual women.

So what am I then - no longer a woman, I am now 'different people'

Them’s the rules, Rosie: The word “woman” may never be used to refer to the 51% of the human race who are female. A “gender neutral” term must be used for them. Even if doing so is confusing, misleading or makes a nonsense of statistics used in that particular sentence. The word “woman” may only be used for the less than a quarter of one percent of the population who are male and self describe as a member of the opposite sex. And any woman who questions an institution following these rules is committing the sin of being “exclusionary” aka an evil bigot who must be denigrated, silenced and certainly doesn’t deserve the respect of an honest and accurate reply to her question.

CorruptedCauldron · 22/09/2023 09:54

How inclusive of them to exclude the very people who are affected by the menopause. Let’s give them a hand. Who does the menopause affect? Answer: WOMEN. It affects women, regardless of any gender identity they may have. It affects the FEMALE SEX. Stop erasing women in your botched attempt at inclusion, ACAS.

“Trans women” are mentioned, but no mention whatsoever of the common-or-garden women who actually go through the f#$ing thing.

Yup.

I haven’t looked into the Menopause Charity……yet

Wow. That’s poor.

From what I’ve seen of ACAS, it doesn’t surprise me that much. It’s still disappointing though.

That Dr Louise Newsom, whose approach I have found ... interesting. WRT positing HRT as a solution for everyone, despite NICE/NHS guidelines saying differently.

Dr Newsom makes a lot of money out of women.

LoobiJee · 22/09/2023 09:31

ResisterRex · 22/09/2023 09:13

"Sex assigned at birth" Hmm

It’s worse that that. It says “trans is an umbrella term that refers to individuals whose sex is different to that assigned at birth”.

Setting aside the fact that no one can change sex, it’s not even an accurate definition of the “umbrella term: trans”. The trans umbrella relates to individuals’ gender identity. That definition should say individuals who believe their gender identity does not align with their sex recorded at birth.

cheezncrackers · 22/09/2023 09:30

Apparently ACAS left Stonewall's Diversity Champions programme in 2021. You wouldn't know it though. I want to write the word WOMEN in huge letters across their stupid handout and then give it back to them. A whole page on trans and not one mention of women, fully 51% of the population and 100% of the people who go through menopause? FFS!

This is presumably the registration page. Lots of 'women'.

'This October is Menopause awareness month. The menopause is a natural occurrence, yet up until recently, it has received little attention despite the impact it is known to have on women at work.

The average age of women who reach menopause in the UK is 51, although some women may experience this sooner whether by nature or other health conditions. Research in 2021 by Benenden Health found 23% of women who have been unwell due to menopause have left jobs, with 48% of participants in their ‘National health and wellbeing at work’ report stating menopause causes low mood and poor mental health.

Additionally, a poll by the Fawcett Society reported that a quarter of employees currently experiencing the menopause said their experience has made them more likely to leave the workforce before retirement. Join Acas for this webinar where we will discuss the importance of supporting those experiencing the menopause, including: An overview of the menopause and who it affects The impact in the workplace An employer’s legal responsibilities Case studies from real experiences How the organisation and managers can support staff'

Ironically, ACAS are the organisation charged with concilliating between employers and employees in sex discrimination cases. But they can’t bring themselves to use the word woman in a document about discrimination due to a sex-based life event!

No surprise there, nearly all the Unions are captured by the woo.

ACAS is not a trade union.

“They will be menopausal even if they are still only very young. “

That could have been dealt with in the guidance, by saying that ……..”the menopause is when women naturally cease ovulating and menstruating, most commonly in their 40s and 50s. Women may also have reproductive health surgery which causes similar symptoms to the menopause. Some women experience early menopause in their 30s or even 20s although this is much rarer. “

Fucking hell. How would women - 99% of people who actually get the menopause even know that leaflet was for them? Is there a separate one for women?

GCWorkNightmare · 22/09/2023 09:20

This is the handout. I don’t know what was on the slides but I doubt they we’re different in approach to this.
