Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

borntobequiet · 08/10/2023 21:11

I’ve ordered from the local bookshop in my small town. I’ll also order at the library.

I’ve only just started The Running Grave, so I’ll need to read like the wind so I can get on to Graham’s book ASAP!

Got the email. Does anybody know what the 'diffficult circumstances' are? Hopefully just volume of sales?

While they make every effort to fulfil the orders they receive in 2–5 days, it may take longer, particularly in the current difficult circumstances

I assumed that it was just an old message referencing either covid or the postal strikes. I could be wrong though, if anyone has any other insights?

Mine’s being processed too! It’s a toss up whether the book or the new cover for my little greenhouse arrives first, oooh, the dilemma, I will be torn!

I think we will need a very quiet thread entitled “Don’t bother me, I am reading Graham’s book.”

It'll be like this in my house

IcakethereforeIam · 08/10/2023 18:03

Yes, I've got one as well 😊

Watchinghockey · 08/10/2023 17:58

Me too! Really looking forward to reading it.

SomersetBrie · 08/10/2023 17:56

Just had an email to say order has been processed - exciting times!

BezMills · 04/10/2023 02:09

I bought from my Local Bookshop for Local People. Up the bookshops!

MaryLivingOnDreamsAndCustardCreams · 03/10/2023 21:53

@JanesLittleGirl 😂

So we need to buy another book as a present from either Amazon or the publisher! And request it from our libraries 😅

napody · 03/10/2023 19:45

Yeah I didn't mean they'll fiddle the charts! Just that their charts show what's bestselling through them- the ones on the newspapers show total sales, don't they?

I've realised though that my previous post sounds like I'm massively judgemental of people buying through amazon... it wasn't meant that way! I definitely see the benefit of helping it ride high in the amazon charts!

Edited

I definitely wasn't offended!! I think there's plenty of space for every purchase rationale. Good to see the publishers getting direct orders, good to see the word spreading through mass retailers...every purchase is important!!

Well, I asked my local library to order and today got the following email which I'm rather pleased about - planning on buying it but now there's at least one copy in the system.

Good afternoon,

The stock suggestion below has been ordered for you and a hold. It will be sent to *** for collection once we have received and processed it. You will be notified when it is ready for collection.

With a forecast notification date of "when Hell freezes over"?

I bought from amazon so it would be obviously successful to many people. Amazon don't care, they'll show people what's selling.

Barbiesdreamhousenotmojodojocasahouse · 03/10/2023 18:56

Forester1 · 03/10/2023 18:37

I bought from the publisher as I also wanted to “thank” them for publishing this book.

Same here.

JenifaTaughtMe · 03/10/2023 12:51

Wouldn't that theory work for all the books on Amazon equally?

Hard to test but I suspect not. Reckon people who buy glinners book likely to be:

  1. More politically engaged (with a small p) generally
  2. More likely to use their purchasing power consciously- whether to support a writer or not to support amazon
  3. If you're preordering it's a more planned conscious purchase altogther- you're not buying from amazon for speed/convenience

So I reckon it'll be significantly higher in overall sales charts than amazon charts

Abhannmor · 03/10/2023 13:36

I suppose it would @JenifaTaughtMe . I'm useless at statistics!
