Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

A line keeps going through my mind. It's where he describes the smell of the men's toilet in a pub and says that every time the door opened and closed the smell 'was like an old lion coughing in your face'. That's disgustingly brilliant.

SecretShambles · 15/10/2023 14:16

Waterstones are selling it for £16.99

You have to hunt for it though, it was hidden in a corner on the lowest shelf in my branch despite being a bestseller!

MavisMcMinty · 15/10/2023 11:07

Yup, RRP £19.99.

duc748 · 15/10/2023 11:02

Isn't that just someone trying to re-sell on at a profit from Amazon? It doesn't look loke an official 'Amazon' price.

Hurrydash · 15/10/2023 10:54

It's on offer for £29.99 on my Amazon account.
What's that about? Used to be less than £20?

SirVixofVixHall · 15/10/2023 09:36

Checked my account and it says “arriving 17-18th”

SirVixofVixHall · 15/10/2023 09:35

I also pre-ordered mine a month ago from Amazon, but haven’t had it yet.

borntobequiet · 15/10/2023 09:33

I picked mine up on Thursday from my local independent bookshop, having put the order in a week previously.

Abhannmor · 15/10/2023 09:31

I see it is also currently unavailable at book supplier in Limerick but you can pre order. Demand is exceeding supply perhaps.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 15/10/2023 09:23

I saw mention of another print run needing to be done, so maybe that's causing the delay?

Abhannmor · 15/10/2023 09:07

Hmm. I ordered from Eye Books , 17th September and and it ' has been processed '.
If it is unavailable perhaps Amazon under ordered supplies?

Lismore · 15/10/2023 08:50

I haven’t RTFT so sorry if this has already been mentioned but
I ordered this book in mid-September from Amazon for delivery on 12-13 October and there’s no sign of it, not despatched yet.
It is listed as ‘not currently available’.

Is this Amazon messing up their supplies, or cancelling his book?

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 12/10/2023 14:22

@Resisterance & @AutumnCrow

I’ve heard back from Dan at Eye Books, it appears that I’m not the only one to have received a duplicated order and they haven’t asked for them back.

Shoot me a personal message with your address and I’ll post them in the next couple of days

Thanks, @BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted - that's great. Will PM you later.

Am really surprised by Turner's 'review'. As I said on my thread I have followed her writings on the GI debacle, and found her measured and coherent. This 'review' is not that. Disappointing.

Meanwhile, my copy arrived yesterday. Am going to dig in over the weekend.

chilling19 · 14/10/2023 09:22

Hi all, just been pointed in this direction (thank you @theeyeballsunthesky) - this is my thread

Janice Turner puts the boot into @glinner www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4919590-janice-turner-puts-the-boot-into-at-glinner

Waitwhat23 · 13/10/2023 22:28

Thank you both - I suppose we'll just have to wait and see if she does retract it.

IcakethereforeIam · 13/10/2023 22:24

Sorry, I've just checked the review through the archive link (archived 7 hours ago), seems to be a direct quote.

She's also a bit rude about those of us who still support him!

Daiyu · 13/10/2023 22:23

Waitwhat23 · 13/10/2023 21:56

Sorry, what I meant was that (having not been able to see a copy of Janice Turner's review which isn't behind a paywall), I can't say definitely whether the first bit is a direct quote or not.

It is what she said and hasn't been corrected. It has been mentioned in the comments.

IcakethereforeIam · 13/10/2023 21:34

It's on pg285 of the hardback.

Waitwhat23 · 13/10/2023 21:02

If this is correct, I wonder if that particular claim will be retracted from Janice Turner's review?

dimorphism · 13/10/2023 17:46

I find it tedious and annoying when writers use their paid for columns for personal point scoring, so Janice has gone down in my estimation.

Classic 'head girl' syndrome though.

Motnight · 13/10/2023 17:42

I didn't know about JT's journalistic connections.

I think that if JT had written this as an opinion piece instead of a review it would have been more appropriate.

But The Times in general has been one of the most balanced newspapers in regards to transgender issues, and one of the first (if not the first) to publish what are still unfashionable views. My guess is that JT's article won't put a lot of readers off from buying Glinner's book

TheGreatATuin · 13/10/2023 17:38

Theeyeballsinthesky · 13/10/2023 09:42

😆😆😆 I’m imagining it sat on a table in the centre of a large room under a lead shield

“who amongst you is willing to read the thoughts of the impure one??”

Based on the utter lack of journalistic curiosity they've shown recently, I'd be surprised if anyone at the Guardian reads it at all.
If they do cover it, they'll just quote reactions from people who don't like him and haven't read the book either, and pass it off as a story.

IwantToRetire · 13/10/2023 16:44

The problem with Janice Turner is it isn't a review.

It is an exercise in trying to justify what she has said in the past and what she believes.

It is NOT a review.

The Times has gone down in my estimation for publishing this self absorbed nonsense.

Made worse by finding out her personal connection.

And yes, to comment up thread. Nearly all the the UK media (well London based) is totally about who knows who, who has fallen out with who. They are self absorbed and detatched from reality.
