Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

Some people are just not happy about glinner and his book! And are taking the opportunity to have a pop at everyone else they deem guilty of wrong think

Also… there's a topless poster of Richard Ayoade? (Misses point of thread)

Giggorata · 15/09/2023 11:38

Ordered it. I hope it is a runaway best seller. Glinner deserves our support, as he has supported us for so long and at such a cost.
Also, good on ya, Wossie and Richard.

Nah Hat Trick are in too deep. Sunk-cost fallacy. They won't be able to admit how wrong they were over Graham. Also for Hat Trick and JM to admit they were wrong might open them up to legal redress from Graham. They have painted themselves into a corner with a paint that doesn't dry. They are stuck.
The only way the musical deadlock ever gets resolved is if behind the scenes a negotiated agreement is reached to part ways where neither side has to admit any wrongdoing and both sides don't comment on it, just release one of those legalese joint statments. Glinner can then put it on with a different company.
I'm surprised Glinner hasn't rewritten it from the ground up with different ideas gags title etc.... "Father Dougals Odyessy Among The Heathens"

After a google it's not clear who owns the rights to Father Ted so it may be both parties jointly own the rights in some way, or there may be an exclusivity deal Hat Trick has to produce the material. My guess is it's messy and might never be resolved.

I read something about JM that said he saw the alternative comics in the 80s as being on The Right Side Of History versus the racist misogynist homophobe Bernard Manning etc generation before, and he made hay while the sun shined. And he stuck his finger to test the wind direction on deciding to be "right" in tying to the mast of pro TRA and anti GC. "The future of comedy must be...inclusive, supportive, non judgemental"...er, no Jimmy, comedy has always been cruel. What you mean is, that's my choice to maximise shareholder value, and my eventual cashing in.

Agreed that sunk costs fallacy and status in the elites caste system means no truce can be had here.

Iamnotastick · 15/09/2023 11:31

I do wish he would STFU on twitter though. Pointless online spats dont do anyone any favours and all seem so childish.

Which show was that?

Maaate · 15/09/2023 10:57

What will happen is the shitweasels at Hat Trick will see that Graham and his work are incredibly popular and that they will make enough money staging the show to offset the MRA rage.

Basically money talks.

I hope so, because that would be the most significant crack in the dam. As Glinner himself said; he's so cancelled he wasn't even invited on to a show about being cancelled.

Being back as a moneyspinner would set a HUGE precedent.

NashvilleQueen · 15/09/2023 11:16

Lol at that Owen Jones photoshop

I am so very pleased for Graham that the advance sales are so strong. That must be a massive boost for him.

Is there any legal way for the rights to the Father Ted Musical to be re-acquired from Hat Trick? Hopefully Graham’s book talks about this awful ongoing scandal, and there’s now some movement on it.

Owen must regret ever taking the original photo of whatever book he was reading at the time!

Re signatures in the book: Presumably they’ll be someone folding the book out ready for him! Maybe lined up on a long table that he circles round? A conveyor belt?

CorruptedCauldron · 15/09/2023 10:52

Well done Glinner! The book is selling like hot cakes. It goes to show what a goldmine the shelved Father Ted musical would be. More fool those who cancelled it!

Tinysoxxx · 15/09/2023 10:50

How many signatures can you write in a day? That’s a lot to do by October, they better come off the printing press soon!

VicSynix · 15/09/2023 10:45

I've just logged into my local library account and sent a request that they purchase it. Can I suggest that anyone who is a member of their local library do the same? Where I am, it's Libraries West and I sent a request by logging into my library account, searching for the title and when it didn't come up, following the suggestions on how to request that it be ordered.

I also think sales positions are distorted by the Richard Osman effect. Most bestsellers sell no more than a few thousand copies a week - the Thursday Murder Club books sell tens of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands. In the week a new book in the series comes out, the sales will be particularly high. It's not unlike the Harry Potter books in their day.

WorriedMutha · 15/09/2023 10:31

Just ordered and my ref is 8498. Given the last person's declared ref, it must have sold approx 26 in an hour. Good going for a Friday morning.

Slothtoes · 15/09/2023 10:17

This is fabulous. Glinner you’re a star.

Please can everyone buying any GC books also remember to go into your local library and ask them to order them in, as a little women’s rights task?

OvaHere · 15/09/2023 10:15

Helleofabore · 15/09/2023 10:10

And that is not including the chunk of signed copies sold directly from the publisher! Of which there seems to be huge quantities.

I couldn't work out whether the number assigned from the publisher was purely for Glinner's book though. The order number might encompass all sales of all books on the site.

It's clearly doing very well so I'm not trying to diss it. Just that it's not easy to work out exact figures at this stage. I'm sure in time Glinner will have access to the numbers himself.

This sales calculator suggests a rank of #2 on Amazon UK means a book has sold:

159-320 /day
770-9600 /month

No, US and UK numbers, and print runs, are vastly different. US market is hugely enormously bigly compared to the UK.

In that case I don't know then.

Which means that article I quoted above is also wrong!

I had thought it was a UK one ... will try again.

Google tells me that (in the US) you need to sell between 3,500 - 5000 in the first 24 hrs to hit the No 1 spot.

I assume the UK is similar.
