Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

I ordered from Eye earlier today - the order numbers are going steadily upwards it seems.
So does Amazon show how many sales there are per book in its top 100? I saw it’s at #2.

It says it's at No1 now on Amazon!

Not sure it's very wise to give your actual order number on here. We know there are lunatics who would love to be able to link real life names with MN usernames...

EmpressGrey2 · 15/09/2023 13:14

Thanks @VicSynix I've done likewise. I'm also LibrariesWest and have become a keen user of the mobile library since moving to near Bristol. Might also buy a copy as I think it's so important to support authors and publishers (congrats Eye Books) who resist this authoritarian movement. I'll ask for it in a bookshop though as I did with Helen Joyce's Trans. I left the Society of Authors over this issue and feel deeply uncomfortable with the state of the publishing industry. Just today there's an article about the OUP cancelling a philosopher's book because of wrongthink. I have a book proposal in at the moment that's pertinent to biological women. I'm wondering whether I might be 'encouraged' to include transwomen. The answer is a big fat no. Congratulations @Glinner After all your losses this new book heralds a public return to the brilliant writer that you are.

I didn't realise Graham had a cameo in the I.T. Crowd.

At just before 2mins50 Graham gets to scream "We're all gonna to die!"

Quite a poignant episode given the context!

Owen must regret ever taking the original photo of whatever book he was reading at the time!

I imagine Talcum is salty that his last book This Land (a sustained self-pitying rant absolving himself of all responsibility for Labour's catastrophic course in 2015 - 19 and suggesting that the British Working Classes are too thick to make up their own minds and simply do whatever The Sun, which hardly anyone reads anymore, tells them what to do) sold about 5 copies.

Medlady · 15/09/2023 12:57

ordered

zaramysaviour · 15/09/2023 12:55

Signed copy ordered! (I subscribe to his Substack.) Will buy several for Xmas presents too. Great stuff!

Just ordered my copy direct from the publisher, order #8570

Lilifer · 15/09/2023 12:46

Just bought the hard copy. It's sitting at #1 right now, great to see it!

Been a good week for Irish GC folks with Roisín and now Graham.

@lilifer yep you need to log on to amazon website on your phone, into your account and you can buy the kindle book there.
It's an annoying system!

Oh thank you!

'One of the best TV comedy writers of all time delivers a book which is a must-read for anyone who has ever wondered: a) how to create a hit sit-com and b) how it feels to lose everything. It's funny, complicated and utterly compelling'

Jonathan Ross

'One of the most compelling and unflinchingly honest memoirs I've read in many years. It's also the funniest'

Andrew Doyle

'Graham Linehan has long been one of my favourite writers - and this book shows that his brilliance in prose is the equal to his brilliance as a screenwriter. It unfolds with the urgency of a Sam Fuller film: that of a man who has been through something that few have experienced but has managed to return, undaunted, to tell us the tale'

Richard Ayoade

'Hilarious, raw and touching. A must-read for anyone who wants to know the backstory behind Father Ted - and why he gave up the life of a luvvie to fight the threats posed by trans ideology to women's rights and child safeguarding'

Helen Joyce

'This book is great company, and reminds us that Graham is first and foremost a writer, and a very funny one indeed. It is a not inconsiderable relief, in fact, to see that he has not lost the gift'

Simon Evans

'A brilliant account of the evolution of a comedy writer, but also an extraordinary and chilling portrayal of cancel culture. I found it unputdownable'

Lissa Evans

Oh I love this!! Seriously considering making it my phone's wallpaper!

Maaate · 15/09/2023 12:31

As much as I would love to see FTTM it would really grate on me for JM and HT to make any kind of profit from it after what they have done.

Glinner said MB apologised, he doesn't seem bothered by it.
https://twitter.com/Glinner/status/1702299276250890525

Thanks, that is interesting and a bit confusing: did MB say what he was reported as saying and is being two-faced to Glinner, or was his original comment somehow twisted?
Would love it (and be more reassured) if MB said something publicly but I won't hold my breath!

lechiffre55 · 15/09/2023 12:19

@duc748
Yes.
I'm not sure you'd get a neutral version of the story anywhere. It's not the sort of thing that gets well documented.

duc748 · 15/09/2023 12:11

Is the JM referred to upthread Jimmy Mulville? I don't know the story about Hat Trick and Glinner; if anyone could point me towards a brief resume, I'd be grateful.

WinterTrees · 15/09/2023 12:07

(By halfway through his signature will probably be little more than a vague approximation but it will be his hand! 😂)

WinterTrees · 15/09/2023 12:06

The signing thing is important for the optics. He will indeed have to sign every copy as promised, which is no mean feat, but the publisher will stack the books up ready and there will be photographs of him by that giant mountain of books. It's an incredibly powerful image for the twitter haters.

Tinysoxxx · 15/09/2023 12:02

There are several glinner Twitter (X) accounts so I don’t know which one is his. There’s an of bit ranty stuff on them. I think if I were him I would be stating some facts what is not true about him (again) then leaving Twitter (X) temporarily and saying why - too busy signing books! I understand this is easier said than done when people are tweeting libellous stuff about you. Perhaps screenshotting and replying to a lowlights round-up every so often?

I don’t know how JKRowling does it so magnificently tbh. It must require a huge amount of patience and resolve.

Abhannmor · 15/09/2023 12:00

Can't seem to pre order from Waterstones - won't Recognise my Irish phone number. And I won't buy from Amazon. But I will visit the nearest independent bookshop. Hope they're not captured!
