Is this really fair on the groom who has gone onto the show to meet a woman and is matched with a TW without his knowledge until after the ceremony?

I know some will say it’s only a reality tv show but surely if the groom thinks he’s being matched with a woman, this is wrong.

MAFS UK's transgender bride kept her past hidden until after wedding

It's the Channel 4 programme where singletons don't meet their spouse-to-be until they are at the altar.

Wait wait wait.... are you telling me a TV show which marries people who've never met for the purposes of entertainment isn't ethical??!

I'm shocked!

Come on, the entire thing is an unethical shitshow.

Of course it is. They're just plumbing new depths this time

Did anyone actually read the article that OP posted ?
It clearly says that the groom knew that the bride was TG ahead of the wedding !!

”However, the broadcaster has now admitted that they did tell the man in advance of filming, meaning that the organisation has duped their viewers.”

And if you read the whole thread you will see they updated the article a couple of hours after it was originally published.

At time of starting thread, none of the comments about him being told were there. In fact it said he didn’t know until AFTER the ceremony

No - only dress up Iwasafool

Thank you, I thought it was a mad idea but then sometimes mad things do happen.

I've never watched it so excuse my ignorance but are they really married? I mean legally.

No it’s a ceremony for the cameras but they live together as man and wife during the series and decide at the end of they want to take the relationship forward.

Did you read the article OP. It says right there:

^^

If you read my later posts, the article has been changed since it was first published so yes I did read it - the original and the update

Sorry ignore me I thought it was the Australian show we were talking about.

Flickersy · 13/09/2023 19:29

I suspect it is no longer about love but dropping jaws

It was only ever about the latter.

inkjet · 13/09/2023 19:29

Is sex by deception a crime in Australia?

ArcaneWireless · 13/09/2023 19:29

I did love the original MAFSuk and keep watching in the vain hope that they’ll stop making it all about fame hunters, arguments and Instagram and people playing a role.

I suspect it is no longer about love but dropping jaws.

However, I too think it deeply unfair and irresponsible to match someone with this person unless they had specifically stated they were happy to be matched with a transwoman.

CosyNightsOnTheSofa · 13/09/2023 19:26

They don't really get married on the show, but the fact he's being deceived in such a way even for just a stupid reality tv show is awful and humiliating. Imagine if he (the bloke he marries) doesn't come clean that he's actually a man and this bloke had kissed and touched him. It's gross and so unfair on the poor bloke who is matched with him, this is all recorded for everyone to see. So unethical. How's this matching people by "experts", if you can't even get the sex correct nevermind personality/background/likes/dislikes! It's not exactly something you can compromise on if you are straight! If they get some pan sexual or something, fine, but an unsuspecting straight man thinking it's a women, no.

No, I suspect not. He also wouldn’t have been allowed to just quietly abstain, he’d have been vilified in the media for transphobia.
He couldn’t win.

Yep he’d forever be referred to Bob whose transphobia saw him refuse to marry the beautiful Ella despite her being a lovely lady and just like other girls - boo hiss bad Bob

I mean Ella doesn't look like any woman I've ever come across

Even if it weren't obvious, I find the wrists and hands give it away.

Yes, absolutely that's the conclusion I've come to (especially in the feathery photo). You can't really do cosmetic surgery on hands/wrists/ankles/feet and they do tend to be a give away.

Flickersy · 13/09/2023 19:18

LifeInTheUK · 13/09/2023 19:07

I agree @inkjet .
There is an issue around consent whether he truly felt he could say NO. Ahd wha5 the6 have done if he had done so? Could have gone either way really abd depends a lot on how they presented things.

That's true of literally every single couple on the show.

The whole thing is appalling and needs taking off the air.

Hellsbellsandspidersankles · 13/09/2023 19:17

RoseslnTheHospital · 13/09/2023 19:13

If he had said no to the match with Ella, would this man have been given a different partner and be allowed to continue on the show? I wonder, and suspect not.

I mean Ella doesn't look like any woman I've ever come across.

They primarily looks like a plastic surgery addict. I can see how someone might attribute anything odd about their appearance to a surgery habit rather than their sex. At least with clothes on. That bikini shot gives the game away immediately.

I think it's the photo with the coloured feathery top thing that gives it away most.

There is something about that photo which makes Ella look masculine (not surprisingly as Ella is genetically male). I think it might be the angle/how Ella holds herself or perhaps the hands/wrists area. It just look off and automatically make me think of drag.

SamW98 · 13/09/2023 19:16

It is understood that the man is 'furious' with how Channel 4 treated him during his time on the programme and afterwards

Poor bloke is damned whatever he does - says no and he’s a transphobe who will get abuse. Say yes and he’ll get ridiculed afterwards. But hey he’s just collateral damage for the TRA cause

OP posts:
DoItAgainPlz · 13/09/2023 19:16

The update makes it even worse, almost.

They're clearly trying to spin a narrative that it's absolutely fine for people to be duped by trans people. The message they're sending out that we just need to accept it is appalling.

RoseslnTheHospital · 13/09/2023 19:13

'In all other ways, the integrity of the format was preserved. Our priority during matchmaking is to protect the wellbeing of the cast and create compatible matches, based on detailed assessment of individual preferences, as part of an in-depth, careful matchmaking process

Except the most important one that the bride isn’t actually female - more meaningless word salad to justify their lack of integrity
