MAFS - first transgender bride.

Is this really fair on the groom who has gone onto the show to meet a woman and is matched with a TW without his knowledge until after the ceremony?

I know some will say it’s only a reality tv show but surely if the groom thinks he’s being matched with a woman, this is wrong.

MAFS UK's transgender bride kept her past hidden until after wedding

It's the Channel 4 programme where singletons don't meet their spouse-to-be until they are at the altar.

I strongly suspect they'll have to have agreed to this before being matched, I.e. ticked a box to say what they'd be happy with.

Indeed.

Both members of the couple are being exploited for sensationalism.

They may understand this to an extent, but there will be definite elements that they will have a lack of comprehension about how much this may blow up and the degree to which it will.

The problem is with these reality shows is that the producers are constantly looking to up the ante and create more and more drama and headlines.

And the willing participants are just collateral damage in a ratings grab.

We all saw how shows like Big Brother changes over the years from fairly humble beginnings with reasonably normal contestants into a car crash full of desperate fame hungry wannabes prepared to do anything for the chance of a media presence.

Yes, and just like the C4 Rosie Jones programme "Am I a retard?", which didn't tell any of the participants what the title of the programme was going to be, Channel 4 have a history of not being upfront with participants over the details of the programme/editing etc.

ArcaneWireless · 14/09/2023 11:44

Quite.

So you have absolutely no problem with transgender people being used for sensalist headlines by C4 who pretend to be trans allies, whilst actually exploiting everyone involved?

Anyone dumb enough to go on MAFS deserves everything they get, frankly. Not sure they can complain they didn't get given their perfect match. Its cheap tawdry entertainment.

My friend is friends with the only couple that are still together from that show. That's when it was more 'normal' thpugh

Personally I think the harbingers of the apocalypse are trans allies, governments and large corporations enthralled to very regressive ideas about gender. The vast majority of whom are not themselves trans. Slow had clap as they disintegrate the left, peddling pseudo science whilst the planet burns.

RebelliousCow · 14/09/2023 10:02

Sadly, you see this more and more. I didn't half get a shock once, when looking up from the salad section at the supermarket to be confronted by a woman with full on black eyebrows, exaggerated trout pout, and an orange tan.

Recently been reading interviews with. a couple of celebrities who have both been having 'work' done for many years. Now in their 50s and 60s...One was a very naturally attractive women in earlier years, but is now starting to look fake and plastic - as you describe. This seems to be the look that many younger TW go for.

I'm glad that at least behind the scenes the TV show recognised the need for informed consent (which makes them ABSOLUTE TERFS not that they'll realise).

Sounds like the TW was fully on board with the fake storyline and thrilled with it all. The big shock revelation pretends nobody could tell. V validating.

I feel very, very sorry for the TW however. 20 is still extremely young to transition. Sure they may have retained some sexual function, but they didn't give their brain an opportunity to fully mature. They must have grown up with some awful ideas on gender stereotypes; their current body looks extremely painful to inhabit. I thought their line about not wanting to be anybody's "dirty secret" was unintentionally revealing. The true dirty secret was presumably growing up as an effeminate gay boy in an environment which did not accept that.

Our society's love of gender stereotyping on the left and right has a lot to answer for. It's making a lot of money out of guys like this and the many women who emulate that look.

Yes they’re pretty much encouraged to have a full relationship as if they were actually a couple. There’s usually a sex expert who gives them tasks to improve intimacy

The sex expert could have bitten off more than they can chew when they have to explain dilation to the groom.

So the Daily Mail's woke sister paper The Metro now has an article

https://metro.co.uk/2023/09/14/married-at-first-sight-went-extra-mile-for-trans-bride-ella-morgan-clark-19494616/?ico=mosaic_home

Clearly Channel 4 are attempting to change the narrative from what they probably originally leaked, I wonder if there has been last minute editing to the show?

It does seem C4 were keen on the viewers believing the groom had no idea his bride was a TW and have hastily cobbled together an ever changing narrative after the story originally broke.

Not having watched the programme... is there an expectation that the couples will consummate their "marriages" at some point (off screen that is)

Married At First Sight went extra mile to find match for trans bride Ella

They changed the format slightly for her.

There are a lot of actual women who are addicted to cosmetic procedures and surgeries, now. I've always been a little oblivious, have to say - but my hair stylist was telling me yesterday that 95% of her friendship group have had at least 'some work' done: teeth, botox, fillers, tatooed on lips and eyebrows, breast implants, liposuction.

Many are now travelling abroad for procedures and there are some awful stories about things that have gone wrong. My stylist was saying she had a woman in the salon last week whose friend had been to Turkey for breast implants. She woke up after the surgery with pain and swelling on her lower back. The surgeon told her some tale about why she'd been cut there.

When she got home the pain got worse and so she went to her GP who had sent her for a scan, at which she was told that a kidney had been removed.

It is quite common for actual women to look not too disimilar from that TW. Obviously little things, like gait, hands, feet and waist hip ratios give the truth away - but a lot of women look as much like a drag queen as a drag queen does. highly sexualised clothing, mega high heels, tons of make-up, trout pout.

This is what happens when femininity becomes a marketing tool and a product you can buy. When people attempt to look like a barbie doll with exaggerated everything. A comic book persona. A construction.

I dated a guy a few years ago with daughters in their 20’s. Both had regular Botox, lip fillers, fake breasts, hair extensions etc. The younger of the two very rarely went out and had never had a bf yet spent a significant portion of her salary on cosmetic procedures.
Last photo I saw of her, I had to do a double take as her face has changed so much that I didn’t even recognise her. She was an attractive girl to start with but now just looks like like a blow up doll with exaggerated features and an expressionless face.

the majority of heterosexual people enter into a relationship with the reasonable expectation that they may conceive a child with their partner at some point if it all works out

at the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, two men will not be conceiving a child together

I really can’t believe that channel 4 need a recap on where babies come from

RebelliousCow · 14/09/2023 08:37

Men tend to be far more visual and can get fixated more easily on certain female body parts and features ( hence greater tendencies to fetishism). I've found men often cannot tell if someone has had implants. They jut see the superficial package and presentation and respond to that.

But beyond superficialities heterosexual men are attracted to actual women - not just to body parts - certainly if they want a relationship, anyway. Most men don't actually like 'fake' - beyond the initial thrill.

Ella said 'They need the education, but I don't want to harp on about it to everyone, I would rather them watch the show and see that I'm as normal as the other girls and relatable and hopefully people from that will feel that they can talk openly and date trans girls whether they are pre or post op.'

Hmm no love, that ain’t going to happen.

I do feel a bit sorry for people like this, to be honest.

The reality is that, even if they aren't fazed by a trans person's body (which will never quite be the same as the body they are trying to emulate), most men want children.

There's a difference between forming a long term relationship with a woman and then discovering that she is unable to bear children and deciding to go down a different route such as adoption, or simply make your peace with not having them, and choosing to start a relationship with someone you know can never bear children, because they are biologically male.

I dislike saying this because there are some women who know they are completely infertile, such as women with MRKH syndrome, who probably have to reveal this to new partners at quite an early stage in their relationship. Those women can and do find partners, but I imagine it is something which could make dating more stressful.

Trans women face the double whammy of being obviously unable to bear children and also having physical differences. Obviously that is going to restrict their dating pool quite a lot, and it's unrealistic to pretend otherwise. (I have come across a seemingly straight man who says he would be OK with dating a trans woman, but he doesn't ever want children.)

I imagine the most common outcome for trans people is that they end up dating other trans people.
