This shows the arrest of a teenage autistic girl by about 5 police officers. From what I can make out it is for a 'hate' crime. She apparently said a police officer was a Lesbian. Her Nan is a lesbian - that police officer is like my Nan.

I cannot comprehend the mindset of these officers.

And the woman next to her looks a lot like West Yorkshire's deputy mayor who 'oversees crime and policing in West Yorkshire', pictured in this article ArabellaScott linked to earlier.

Wow. Yes another strong likeness.

This is the picture from SM that is allegedly the officer in question at Pride.

The likeness is apparent but I would say not totally conclusive.

I've belatedly just watched some of the video. Please someone send it to the Home Secretary. What a waste of resources.

The Home Secretary champions heavy-handed policing, despite being a member of a government that has defunded the police far beyond the dreams of any balaclava-wearing agitator.

It’s a toss-up whether she’ll support them over this, obviously it would be a no-brainier if the girl was black. Either way, someone will get thrown under the bus if there’s the faintest sliver of political capital to be made from it.

Hotflushesinthesunfun · 10/08/2023 20:21

The comments on WYP fb post are mostly appalled by both the video and the police statement. There are a few people saying there was obviously more to it, that her parents are to blame for letting her go out etc etc but they’re getting shouted down.

Gilmorehill · 10/08/2023 20:16

Has anyone read the statement given by WYP? They explain why the police came to be involved with this girl - she was found to be intoxicated and brought home. The public don't need to know that. It's an attempt to make a young girl look bad. It doesn't sound like a statement from an organisation that thinks they've made a massive mistake.

Florissante · 10/08/2023 20:16

That is a good likeness.

I've put off watching this as I am a mother to an autistic teenager.

It is one of the most horrific things I've ever seen. This is the second time the police has displayed outrageous hatred for neurodiverse people.

What a disgusting disgusting bunch of people. I am sickened that we pay these ugly thugs' salaries.

WYP we’re absolutely horrendous when I needed them for an ongoing issue. I used to get panic attacks every time I had to deal with them. I was the victim in the situation but they treated me appallingly. A female officer reported me to social services because I burst into tears in interview so she said my children were in danger from me. No, I didn’t understand that either. Luckily SS didn’t either and didn’t follow up after phoning me to clarify that really was why she had reported me.

That sounds so awful! Thank goodness SS didn't take the referral any further. It's such mad reasoning.

The female officers in the police seem just as misogynistic as the male officers. No evidence of sexual offences of course, but their hateful attitude to women seems identical.

I knew SM would rip into her once it all made the news. Good. She deserves every bloody comment going

There's some suggestion on twitter that blonde cop was marching at pride in uniform

It really is time that politics and ideology was taken out of the police force.

Not at all surprised. Like I said, I’m waiting for the statement that says that she identifies as male so being called a lesbian was double hate crime and transphobic

dcbc1234 · 10/08/2023 19:28

Snowypeaks · 10/08/2023 19:20

Excellent. The Baroness's letters are lethal weapons.

All power to the Baroness. She has a disability herself so knows all about disabled people's rights.

Pieceofpurplesky · 10/08/2023 19:26

As a parent of an autistic son who has high anxiety about the police and breaking any rules - this made me cry.
The blonde woman needs sacking- unless there is a huge back story, and I mean huge.

Backstreets · 10/08/2023 19:24

homophobic to be called a lesbian? By a child? Comparing the officer to her nan? What the fuck is going on. Those Mermaids dog whistle lessons are coming in handy for uncovering crime eh.

Snowypeaks · 10/08/2023 19:20

Baroness Nicholson is apparently on the case.

I wish I had the skills and qualifications to do something about this. Police overreach is off the scale.😡

I'm too old now but if I could go back in time, I'd train to be a solicitor and stand up for people in cases like this. Dd wants to be a lawyer- I'm going to show her this video and show how it's important to stand up to people with power on behalf of people who don't.

Maaate · 10/08/2023 18:41

Meanwhile, 15 year old girls are getting assaulted on the streets of West Yorkshire whilst 7 officers are trying to drag a frightened girl out from under the stairs.

So WYP rather than hold their hands up and say ‘we got this wrong’ have decided to continue to escalate the drama and continue digging a massive hole.

They are a fucking disgrace.
