This shows the arrest of a teenage autistic girl by about 5 police officers. From what I can make out it is for a 'hate' crime. She apparently said a police officer was a Lesbian. Her Nan is a lesbian - that police officer is like my Nan.

I cannot comprehend the mindset of these officers.

This is the problem with the entire concept of hate crimes. Certain 'protected' people's feelings are now more important than anything else. Stating a fact or making an innocent observation is suddenly 'hateful' and punishable by law. The number of things deemed as 'hate' will only multiply, and who's to say where it will ever end?

You know the police have fucked up when it unites FWR, tatchell and pink news.

Lol. Isn't there always someone coming here to tell us some bad actor says the same things we say.
Well now we say the same things as your trusted sources! Are we tarring them or they us?

Not at all surprised. Like I said, I’m waiting for the statement that says that she identifies as male so being called a lesbian was double hate crime and transphobic

Yes, I’ve been waiting for that too.

The video looks horrific but it is heavily edited presumably by the woman who is holding the camera while mouthing off at the police.

We don't know what happened prior to this. We have no clue why the person is being arrested. Something led to 6 police officers attending which suggests they are expecting violence.

Hopefully the investigation will get to the bottom of it.

Yes we do know what happened.

The police brought her home from Leeds for her own safety because her elder sister who she snuck out with was worried.

She was arrested because she told her Mum the police woman who brought her home looked like her Nana, who is a lesbian.

Initially only 2 officers brought her home. The others presumably were called as back up after the bizarre and sinister decision to persecute this young disabled girl for saying an officer reminds her of her lesbian Nan.

A 16 year old disabled girl was expected to be so violent it was going to need 6 grown adults to restrain her?

6 grown adults who then caused a disabled child pain by ignoring her physical disability? (never mind the ignoring of her autism)

And we do know why she was arrested thanks to the WYP statement. Its just they havent managed to make it sound any more justifiable.

Are you serious? From a wee girl?

The icing on the cake - Peter Tatchell and Pink News are outraged!

Autistic is trending on ukntwitter now. WYP have a real disaster on their hands.

Lololol oh dear WYP - is there any segment of the population you haven’t pissed off today

Has anyone read the statement given by WYP? They explain why the police came to be involved with this girl - she was found to be intoxicated and brought home. The public don't need to know that. It's an attempt to make a young girl look bad. It doesn't sound like a statement from an organisation that thinks they've made a massive mistake.

Completely agree. Surely it goes against policy to publicise why you've arrested someone across the whole of social media??

NotBadConsidering · 10/08/2023 21:13

I said the cops were wrong for what they did. I'm suggesting what the offence was that they arrested her for.

Yes, like I said, you’re telling us methods the police use to try and justify unjustifiable actions. One method is s5. Thank you for this insight into the police mind.

The referral to Social Services.

All missing children have a Public Protection Notice obtained for them. This is then sent to Social; Services - so they are aware that they have gone missing. If it becomes a pattern of being missing all the time, they can then get more involved with the family.

Clymene · 10/08/2023 20:53

Yes I thought that. They're implying she's out of control and that her mother is irresponsible. Shocking lack of any concern for her at all.

Vindictive and biased statement.

The whole force needs disbanding. They're rotten from the top to the bottom.

Boiledbeetle · 10/08/2023 20:52

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/08/2023 20:51

That to me makes them look even worse. They knew she was vulnerable. They retrieved her and took her home because she was vulnerable. And then they treated her like that.

I agree. At what point did they stop seeing her as a vulnerable child?

When PC Poface spat her dummy out at being called the outrageous slur 'lesbian'

Very good point. I did think when I read that statement that they were trying to smear her and make her sound like the 'baddie'.

The reality is that she is not a public servant and not held to the same standards as police.

Mousehoel · 10/08/2023 20:47

There's some suggestion on twitter that blonde cop was marching at pride in uniform

I joked earlier about the issue being misgendering of the blonde woman.
The more I read the more I’m thinking that she is a TM or NB, and the lesbian comment sent her into a triggered rage.
It really will not surprise me if this turns out to be the case.

NotBadConsidering · 10/08/2023 20:39

I am just making a suggestion as to what the offence was that she was arrested for - and how/why the officer has concluded that offence has been committed.

Actually what you are unwittingly doing is giving us insight into how the police think when things get out of hand and have to come up with something on the spot to justify their actions.

The police do this all the time. They get to a point where they should just walk away but they can’t risk losing face so just keep going with their arrest. They effectively say “you’re a little shit who’s bruised my/our ego so I’m going to use some soft language offence like an s5 to make your life hell for it” because they know the process is the punishment. Don’t back chat to the wrong copper because they’ll always find some sort of stick to beat you with. Felix is telling us which sticks.
