This shows the arrest of a teenage autistic girl by about 5 police officers. From what I can make out it is for a 'hate' crime. She apparently said a police officer was a Lesbian. Her Nan is a lesbian - that police officer is like my Nan.

I cannot comprehend the mindset of these officers.

Are the police officers involved suspended or on office duties, do we know?

Ah ok, so we could do something like....ensure lesbian, gay, trans officers continue to experience high levels of abuse...

There was no abuse towards the cop, in this case; you'd know that if you watched the video and read the mother's account.

The only abuse was from the Police officer, who gleefully stated that she didn't care that the victim was autistic and suffering from a spinal deformity.

She stood and watched smugly, as the girl had her arms twisted behind her back, even though spinal deformities make this extra painful. Her arms folded, a look of satisfaction on her face.

Add to that the near certainty that the arrest was not legal.

She's an insensitive, bullying sadist, who fully deserves every ounce of opprobrium heaped upon her head.

So what IS Inspector Madden’s influence on this awful saga? Overseeing a force with much focus on one particular protected characteristic and not enough understanding of the others (especially disability)?

Spot on.
Isn't WYP Professional Standards Department supposed to be investigating how the cops behaved looking at bodycam footage and so on?

But yet Inspector Madden seems to think she has Divine Right to tweet in support of an officer who is the subject of an ongoing investigation?

Abuse of position in my book. Along with the February tweeting about the 14 year old girl in custody.

She is the Inspector in charge of the Custody Suite at Elland Road Leeds according to her Linkedin profile. Oh, with a background in Safeguarding I see.

It all started with a mention of Fair Cop and their copied tweets from one Inspector Madden from WYP.
Funny that.
But not surprising.

Yes, use certain names on here (CF, FC, KJK, MM) and the batshit signal goes up.

In all seriousness I do need an opinion on this throw. This round of chemo has left me feeling ever so cold and I kind of want to embrace being the mad old woman of the West and wear this and perhaps a headscarf. I already walk with a stick.

Never heard of this company before. Although your choice of throw is gorgeous, I very much like some of the much more colourful ones.
Sadly with all my pets, I'd be forever dry cleaning one of these very fancy throws, so for now, I'll bookmark the page and occasionally covet. And think of you with a giant throw and a stick and potentially a headscarf. Much glamorous.

You get this just walking down the street, minding your own business do you? By complete strangers? LGBT people do.

This is literally womens lives

That's why when women were asked what they would do if there were no men for 24 hours they said they would go for a walk

Theeyeballsinthesky · 14/08/2023 20:00

the fucking arrogance to turn up on
a board comprising primarily of women and telling us we don’t know what it’s like to experience harassment & abuse from complete strangers

fuck me sex is always so obvious isn’t it

Yeah, maybe not in this case? Who knows.

But it happens enough of the rest of the time, constant low level harassment, insults and abuse. Maybe you've never had to deal with that constant assault on who you are by people who have never met you.

Which will obviously only be getting worse for that police officer, and other LGBT officers now.

Definitely not in this case.
The girl said, in her own home, to her mother, ‘I think [she/the police officer] is a lesbian like nana’

ie not a public order offence and not an insult directed at the officer

The girl’s grandmother is married to another woman.

As for harrasment? I’m female, of course I’ve experienced it 🙄

And we still don’t know if Officer Lesbian Nana is actually a lesbian (or a nana) or not, so why are you banging on as though she is?

More projection!

I work with the emergency services. Police officers get 100 times worse than this, every Friday and Saturday night they work. So do I, for that matter, and I'm not even in the police (HCP). I never work a weekend evening without getting some sort of gender-based insult- plus comments on my body, drunken propositions etc. If you can't hack this sort of stuff in the emergency services, you're in the wrong job.

The police do not arrest everyone who insults them - drunken blokes call them far, far worse and get away with it.

So, my question is: why have they arrested a vulnerable 16 year old girl for something that a drunken bloke would never be arrested for?

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 14/08/2023 19:47

@suggestionsplease1 how do you know the police officer is a member of the LGBTQ community ?

SigourneyHoward · 14/08/2023 19:45

You know who else gets that?

Disabled people

And yet the police officer "didn't care" about the child's disabilities

So as a bisexual disabled mixed race woman who has seen her fair share of crappy comments I'm struggling to summon up some sympathy for someone who lashed out at a weaker, more defenseless child and watched them self harm without giving a shit about them.

This just shows why all the identity-based "hate" type laws need to be scrapped. They're just something that can be weaponised by people like this police officer, or suggestionsplease1, to be used as cudgels against anyone they don't like the look of, or just if they have some sort of irrational chip on their shoulder.

If anyone actually is harrassed, that can be dealt with by all the normal harrassment laws that apply to everyone. Having extra special rules for special people just allows abusive people who can claim to be "special" to abuse others.

There is a small part of me that feels sorry for the police officer and what has been unleashed upon her. It was, however, of her own making.

I kind of agree. But if the officer didn't feel empowered/entitled to arrest someone for "hate", she wouldn't have got herself in this mess to start with. The "hate" stuff gave her a way to lash out, and enact her own hate. The laws are bad for everyone.

I can see very few situations where the "hate" stuff actually helps anyone suffering harrassment, and a squillion situations where they permit harrassment.

So true. I've really changed my mind on this issue because of this War on Women.

@suggestionsplease1
Stop making things up. The disabled, autistic 16-year-old did not shout "lesbian" at the officer. She said - to her own mother - that the officer looked like her lesbian nan.

Police officers are literally paid to stay calm. They are not supposed to act like the Stasi.

Twitter tactics won't work on me. I'm not 12 years old and neither are you. Grow up.
