I’m gutted, I’m such a huge fan of his. I’ve been hugely looking forward to the second series of Good Omens.

And now this. When challenged on it, apparently he said “I’m OK, TERFs can’t climbs stairs”.

How very disappointing.

People who disagree with you on this issue are not handmaidens. We are not doing it for the approval of men. We just disagree with you.
I'm with DT on this one and it's no news that he supports trans people.

Yes. David Tennant has always felt like one of the good blokes and this is more evidence. I too stand with him.

Slothtoes · 12/07/2023 03:31

For a minute I thought this was a crassly-worded but understandably angry statement against live medical experimentation on healthy children while denying them proper talking therapy and informed consent, telling them lies and multiple institutions allowing them to be groomed on social media and maybe at school…

And then I realised, Oh dear, David Tennant is just yet another uncritical birdbrain with a celebrity platform.

Who knows about anyone else’s family life but I wonder, is he being careerist and sucking up to the BBC, virtue signalling some kind of allyship to Yasmin Finney as the new Rose in Dr Who?

Because I’d say normally, don’t most parents consciously choose to support their preteen children’s immature thinking (about complex adult issues) very privately? And especially by avoiding making any public statement that would throw scrutiny back on their own family and in this case, could back young kids into an idealogical corner that could have serious consequences?

But no, his stupid aggressive comment about ‘TERFs’ shows he’s just your basic misogynist, delighted with the free pass that he now has to bash at women. What the fuck has making remarks about unspecified women got to do with ‘supporting’ his children? Or furthering his career? Seriously he should be having a good look in the mirror and asking himself why does he feel women having rights, hurts him?!

And I agree 100% with PPs that super privileged straight men such as he is, in general have absolutely no idea, imagination or conscience as to what their own luxury beliefs can contribute to and inflict on other people who don’t have any such cushioning.

Sorry, my message makes no sense without the message it was replying to. Here is how it was meant to be:

It never fails to boggle me that people can think drugs which sterilise children and removing of healthy body parts is a GOOD idea and the people against it are the baddies. Especially now with the mountains of evidence against the Tavistock. I mean, it’s just completely bizarre logic defying cultist behaviour.

He's not saying that, though, is he? He just wants children like his own to be left alone and not persecuted, which hardly seems unreasonable.

The statement would presumably be aimed at either (1) people that are against surgery and meds for kids, (2) people that want trans kids to play on sports teams in accordance with their biological sex etc.

None of that is "persecution" without begging the question.

Put yourself in his position. His kid has been sucked into this. And he is probably trying to show his support.

He will know that you can't change sex. I imagine this is his very poor, privileged way of showing his kid he's not a 'bigot'.

It's disappointing but entirely unsurprising.

I say this as the mother of a son who is in the throes of it, dating a transman. It's fucking hard work and kids know how to manipulate their parents with this stuff now. I imagine he's doing what he thinks will salvage his relationship with his child.

Kids date who they want to, surely?
As they're attracted to their choice of partner.
Do they go out with someone solely to get one up on their Mum /Dad and manipulate them?!
Sounds a bit "it ain't that deep bro" as mine would say!

Genune question, how is she?
Not seen that before.

BodgerLovesMashedPotato · 12/07/2023 02:02

That was supposed to quote @GrammarTeacher , not sure what happened there!

BodgerLovesMashedPotato · 12/07/2023 01:59

Yes! So good to see this response.
Doesn't he have a child who is non binary? That would explain his stance if so.
I'm a massive Dr Who fan and he's my favourite

NotBadConsidering · 12/07/2023 01:48

Telling people who are campaigning for kids to be left alone to leave kids alone. That makes sense 🙄

Coyoacan · 12/07/2023 01:38

I just saw that he non-binary child is bearly nine or just gone ten, the same age as my granddaughter who fortunately is still ignorant of all this rubbish.

Tinysoxx · 12/07/2023 01:35

David needs to look at the Vogue photoshoot to see where this is going for their 10 year old if he/she is left alone with the ideologists.

HollywoodTease · 12/07/2023 01:07

Nice. Use the word the thugs who kicked Sophie Lancaster to death were chanting to put your acceptance message across? Total muppet.

MaryWelly · 11/07/2023 22:09

Nice one David! Knew I liked him ;) good to see someone not bothered by social media trolling to express support for the trans community

Yeah, it's a really brave public statement to make when the only backing you have is the national broadcaster and the largest commercial channels, three of the four main political parties, several of the largest newspapers, most of the main social media sites, the police, the civil service, the NHS...

Brave, brave David!

PattyDuckface · 11/07/2023 20:40

This does not surprise me in the least.

A lot of men cannot conceive of why there are any issues at all, because they have never had to fucking think for a second about what it is to be a woman or a girl.

There's a reason why feminists have led the thinking on this issue.

👏👏👏

Nailed it. He's not doing it against his own views to support his kid, he's doing it cos he's got a superficial understanding of the problem and his social set are full on TWAW. Media friendly feminism where girls can be anything they want as long as they are also attractive and supportive.

I like David Tennant. I enjoy watching him act. I don’t care about his opinions.

I don’t know why anyone gives much credence to the opinions of celebrities. Unless they illustrate that they have expertise on a particular topic, they are no more qualified to speak than any other person. Some do the research and groundwork and then leverage their celebrity to make a real difference on tough issues. Most just seem to pay the same kind of lip service to causes that the rest of us do, with retweet’s and slogans.

I'm the same. He's been in great stuff, Good Omens being the latest I've enjoyed watching. Anything outside that isn't worth fixating on (bar anything illegal).

Rudderneck · 12/07/2023 00:17

I'd have been quite surprised tbh if he wasn't unremittingly woke.

I enjoy him as an actor but I've never seen any evidence he thinks outside the bubble of the entertainment industry norm.

Countdowntowinter · 11/07/2023 22:48

Oh dear another misogynistic man. Boring how the men side with the men in dresses.

Dr Who wasn't great on reality was he.

I think he's siding with his child. As you would expect.

I was a huge David Tennant fan and am disappointed to hear his views - of course he is entitled to his opinions. I strongly disagree with his standpoint.

Does it really say ‘you absolute freaks’ because that is a really offensive word, used against people with disabilities historically.

Try again.

Yep, right there on the t-shirt.

He is a Scot who rose to fame by playing a Sci-fi character with an English accent.
It's called acting.
He had already been in Takin' over the asylum, Blackpool and Casanova before getting the Tardis role.
Loved him in There she goes and am looking forward to Good Omens 2.
If he wants to support his kid publicly, that's his choice.

Did the second part of my post not suit your narrative. He is an actor. His stock in trade is unreality. Why would anything that he says IRL be relevant?

Yasmin Finney is a transwoman who was at trans pride on Saturday wearing a thong and a seethrough body stocking. Very child friendly Hmm

Still, better than all the young women showing off their scars. It's really shocking to see that all the male people look well and healthy and the only body differences seem to be hormonally induced swelling in the breasts. Whereas the female people are all either scarred or cheering about removing their breasts. And/or disabled. It's a fucking shocking state of affairs. It is profoundly misogynistic and I weep for our girls and young women.

apologies. Gone a bit off topic.

BUT THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE CHEERING DAVID.

Goodness. There are some … disturbing people on that Vogue link.
