Well that's a poisoned chalice. Good luck finding anyone daft enough to take that on.

Liz Truss is dim enough to fit the bill and she'd be ideal. She tanked the economy in days, just think of what she could do with Stonewall!

😂

Oh, fuck only knows. None of these words mean anything anymore. Thanks, Stonewall, for redefining sex, sexuality and gender so that absolutely nobody knows what the fuck anyone is even talking about anymore! Only that we are all utterly unique and require our own flag, anime character, and Day of Consideration! Well done!

I choose a week on Wednesday for my Day of Consideration!

Can someone remind me next Tuesday evening as I'll probably forget, what with all the flag designing and anime picking.

TheBiologyStupid · 10/07/2023 22:26

She has been at the heart of advancing and protecting LGBTQ+ people’s rights, not just across the UK but across the world.

I've just searched Stonewall's website again. Nada. So much for their global campaigning when Uganda has just made being L, G, or B subject to punishment up to and the including death.

We seem to very often be told that being asexual doesn't stop you having sex, or being into BDSM, and god knows what else.

But I guess they draw the line at marriage?

Thanks, Red.

'Nancy led the organisation through some groundbreaking policy decisions, including making a case that ‘asexual’ people don’t have equal rights on the basis that there are tax benefits for married couples in the UK.'

I missed that. Crikey.

Um…

… unmarried heterosexual, homosexual & bisexual people don’t get it either?

and marriage allowance is only worth about £250 a year (and it’s only relevant if one of the couple earns less than £12 grand anyway).

Marriage Allowance

Marriage Allowance allows you to transfer some of your Personal Allowance to your husband, wife or civil partner: what you get and how to apply for free.

She was also CEO of NatCen before Stonewall. They were selected by the women's equality party to run a member consultation. It was a complete mess, with the results surpressed for ages then ignored. She had gone by then but obviously we know what they wanted the results to be.

So she contributed to the dishonest trashing of that enterprise too.

So has she got out before the shit hits the fan or is there some scandal breaking?

'Iain Anderson, Chair of Trustees at Stonewall said: “Nancy is stepping back after three incredible years at Stonewall. She has been at the heart of advancing and protecting LGBTQ+ people’s rights, not just across the UK but across the world. Under Nancy’s leadership Stonewall has achieved tangible, life-changing impacts for LGBTQ+ people, and the entire board and staff are grateful for her leadership.”

“The board will now be working with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that Stonewall continues to strengthen its work to support inclusive diverse workplaces and communities, alongside our fantastic domestic and global human rights campaigning. We are fully committed to our current Free to Be strategy.”'

I'm loving Free To Be - I am free to be gender critical or is that not what they meant?

James Esses has done a wonderful celebration of Ms Kelley's achievements over on Twitter.

Is there a threadreader unroll for those of us not on twitter? And of Nancy’s thread?

MavisMcMinty · 10/07/2023 20:48

Is there a thread reader app thingy you could link on the James Esses thread, please? Twitter will only allow me to look at the single tweet that’s been linked, no replies or anything. Thank you!

My concern would be should she now pop up on the fringes of government. Iain Anderson, the current chair of Stonewall, defected from the Conservative party to the Labour party earlier on in the year.

Which means he is very pragmatic and focused on being on the inside with whoever is in government.

As I recall, his move occurred around about the same time that politicians who had previously been assured of inside influence and been able to rely on behind the scenes agreements started complaining about the loss of their cosy back room deals.

There was also talk of the need to get back to “good old-fashioned British fudge” to resolve the conflict between women’s rights and TQ activism.

I’d suspect this has been planned for some time. They are getting rid of the women who were in post when the damage to the brand occurred so that they can get back in track with pursuing their agenda.

“Working with our SLT to…” suggests they’ve got an internal candidate lined up, which could mean she’s been pushed.

Their “Free To Be” strategy - which he says they will be sticking to - is focused on:

  • conversion therapy legislation;
  • hate crime legislation;
  • healthcare - which I guess means the supply of reproductive services to same sex couples, but would also cover hormone treatment for TQ.
  • “inclusive legal recognition of who we are and relationships” which I guess means gender self ID and removal of the spousal exit clause for trans widows wishing to exit marriages.
  • workplaces
  • educational institutions
  • inclusion in sports

Less than a month ago, Labour and Stonewall got together. Including NK and Ian:

Every time she appeared on TV or the radio, she made herself and Stonewall look ridiculous. I doubt even Labour would allow her anywhere near them.

Oooh I don’t know. I wouldn’t be too confident there

Excellent news to start the week.I hope they have an office whip round for a leaving present. Perhaps an emotional support dog?

Yeah, I was just thinking about this today.

Stonewall has been acting like a standards body for diversity but isn't one. So companies who are used to following defined standards bodies and regulators just assumed following Stonewall's standards was best practice and would ensure they avoid discrimination claims. Through the Baily and LGBA cases they are seeing now that it isn't that at all, and that not only Stonewall can and will give them advice that can lead to discrimination claims, but "we were following Stonewall best practice" isn't going to fly as a defense when those claims arise.
