It is basically saying, ‘Boys will be boys’ and ‘It didn’t really harm you now, did it dear?’

And ‘he’s more important than you; can’t have a tiny mistake ruining his life now.’

Awful.

ScrollingLeaves · 11/07/2023 07:05

And that is reported rapes.
So many aren’t even reported, including of children.
It is definitely a crime with odds of something like 300:1 that you’ll get away with it.

DuesToTheDirt · 10/07/2023 22:06

So, on a quick google of conviction rates, "In the year to September 2021, just 1.3% of rape cases recorded by police resulted in a suspect being charged". And that's before you even get to the convictions vs acquittals (about 75% convictions apparently). About 1% of rape reports result in conviction, then. (Though other sources report 3-5%).

And some of that pitiful number of convictions result in non-custodial sentences. Victims really must be wondering what the point is in reporting rape.

SwordToFlamethrower · 10/07/2023 18:14

This is absolutely abhorrent and yes, we absolutely need to take to the streets, immediately!

ArcaneWireless · 10/07/2023 18:03

There was a case here where someone did act because no one was willing to take action (over the years) while their child was systematically bullied and physically assaulted by another child. Guess the sexes….

I don’t condone it.

I do understand it.

And if I’m honest, there wasn’t much in the way of sympathy for the bully from anyone.

I’ve no doubt it will happen again if this is what our justice system has become. And I think it really wouldn’t happen if justice was served.

It is a pure sin what is happening.

SinnerBoy · 10/07/2023 17:47

As several of us have mentioned already, this sort of decision is very likely to lead to vigilante action. If my daughter were a victim and the rapist got a little telling off, I'd be fucking incandescent.

ArcaneWireless · 10/07/2023 17:35

I could weep.

That lass got told I appreciate that you are disappointed with this decision.

Disappointed for letting her rapist off with what amounts to a talking to? For rape?

Kaitlyn is absolutely correct. This little get out clause should not be used for rape or any other violent crime.

It's only supposed to be used for low level crime such as shoplifting (the actual example give when it was brought in) this means that the procurator fiscal deems child sexual abuse and rape as low level crime in Scotland. Let that sink in, we are talking about victims (girls) who are 13, 14 and 15 years old and the worst that happens to the perpetrator is community service or counselling.

That is absolutely fucking appalling. What the FUCK are they thinking?

ArabeIIaScott · 10/07/2023 10:21

IcakethereforeIam · 04/07/2023 14:15

It said he's planning to appeal! 😡

Well, is this 'solution' leaving a question of guilt hanging over him? Would an appeal mean a court case?

OP posts:
SinnerBoy · 04/07/2023 14:51

Yes, as if he hasn't got off extremely lightly as it is.

Northernsouloldies · 04/07/2023 13:31

It gets worse if that's possible. He breached his pay back order and was admonished. He issued a heartfelt apology to the court (crocodile tears me thinks. His sense of entitlement knows no bounds. What about the life of the girl he raped. I really hope this case can be reviewed and he gets a custodial sentence.

Dianbeatthis · 03/07/2023 17:26

The fury that mother must be feeling. I’m so glad she’s fighting this appalling decision.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2023 15:38

Yes, technically you have to declare any arrests even when you weren't charged. In practice I have a family member in that situation who has visited the US several times on visa waiver (ESTA) without declaring, but yes it is a risk.

ArabeIIaScott · 02/07/2023 15:31

More power to that mother. I honestly also think a trial would be in the boy/man's best interests too. If he's innocent he can clear his name; the current decision seems to admit guilt while skipping justice. Worst of all worlds.

SinnerBoy · 02/07/2023 14:46

I really, really hope they win, even if he only gets six months; it would kill off his chance to go and have a lovely time in America. And it'll follow him for life, as it should.

OP posts:
WickedSerious · 26/06/2023 08:15

What the fuck?

SinnerBoy · 25/06/2023 21:38

ArabeIIaScott · Today 20:13

I thought that was so, because I applied for a US B1 and C1D visa in 2000. I had to tell them that I'd been arrested as an under 17 and supply them with the details.

My company wanted me to lie about it, but I didn't feel comfortable; I got the visas.

LakeTiticaca · 25/06/2023 15:34

People will end up meting out vigilante justice if this continues.

And vigilantes don't tend to follow the letter of the law 🙄

Can't come soon enough for me.
Let's face it, until this situation starts affecting MEN, nothing will change.

Maybe when the bodies of rapists and abusers start piling up in the streets, the powers that be might decide they need to address the problem. They won't do it for women or children.
