I think this helps give another viewpoint to the "gay people are anti-trans" trope that is often used by the LGB-Alliance and Julie Bindel etc.

Lesbians often have to put up with harmful stereotypes that may deter them from coming out, and in recent years the "lesbians are anti-trans" is another stereotype on top of the existing ones.

'Lesbians being anti-trans is a lesbophobic trope'

Amy Ashenden, Interim CEO of Just Like Us, is dispelling the harmful trope that lesbians are against the trans community.

She did not use the term “sexual racist”. She said:

”If you find that when dating, you are writing off entire groups of people, like people of colour, fat people, disabled people or trans people, then it’s worth considering how societal prejudices may have shaped your attractions.”

Do you think it’s racist if, for example, a black person isn’t attracted to white people, or vice versa?

No, I don't think it's racist. How is it?

She was a medical student, @ArabeIIaScott? Dear heaven - that made my jaw drop.

JanesLittleGirl · 14/06/2023 12:14

But she didn't finish her degree. Can't think why.

ArabeIIaScott · 14/06/2023 12:12

And given she was a medical student, apparently.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/06/2023 11:50

Kirsty's inability to identify her biological sex as female, given that she has given birth, is a swingeing indictment of Scottish education.

ArabeIIaScott · 13/06/2023 22:01

She was very cross that people call her 'straight', is all I know.

Presumably that puts her on the list TeaKlaxon drew up.

ArabeIIaScott · 13/06/2023 21:51

Soz, but TeaKlaxon's pals all say it's fine, and so do 93% of the people who identify as lesbians in the House of Commons. Or pansexuals. Or bisexuals, or whatever it is that Kirsty Blackman identifies as.

Wasn't Kirsty B unsure? About her chromosomes and her genitals, let alone her identity??
Btw, is KB one of the in depth research group ?

Exactly. I’m horrified older lesbians in established relationships who have never had to scroll through a never ending parade of men with interesting haircuts on a women seeking women type apps, or were able to enjoy a same sex social scene in their youth, would throw their younger sisters under the bus for the sake of general youth approval and careerism.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 13/06/2023 21:09

MargotBamborough · 13/06/2023 19:12

Such as the minority view that trans women are women, for example?

Precisely.

This lesbian - and all the lesbians that I know - are all horrified that young lesbians are being instructed to accept men as partners. Just as we're horrified that there's an unrepresentative group of self proclaimed lesbians who profess approval of children being gaslit to believe they've been born in the wrong body and that body modification & sterilisation is a positive option.
That may be because many of us are lesbian parents, it may be because we're deeply committed to child safeguarding and it may be something to do with being old enough not to take crap from men.

MargotBamborough · 13/06/2023 19:12

TeaKlaxon · 13/06/2023 12:27

Again, never said minority views don't matter.

But minority views should not be presented as falsely representing a majority view within a community. It's dishonest and its dangerous.

Such as the minority view that trans women are women, for example?

TeaKlaxon · 13/06/2023 14:35

I suggest you listen to Angela Eagle's speech from yesterday.

I did. It was'verbal incontinence '.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/06/2023 16:26

Not even a minimal effort to hide the US cultural colony mindset, or pretend some independent thought was involved.

Indeed.

PorcelinaV · 13/06/2023 16:16

TeaKlaxon · 13/06/2023 11:50

I never said it cancels any rights.

Just asking people to stop pretending that they are representing some sort of lesbian viewpoint.

I never claimed no lesbian is anti trans. I explicitly included Joanna Cherry. If you guys want to campaign on the basis that a very small minority of lesbians agree with you, then go right ahead. Just stop pretending it is a common view among lesbians.

We have polling specifically for women where it's a common view. The exact numbers depend on the issue you ask about. And depends on whether you specify that the trans women are still fully equipped. But potentially a majority are against the "trans rights" side.

It would be strange if it wasn't a common viewpoint with lesbians, as that would require a massive shift compared to women in general.

Some difference is quite possible, because of course you are speaking of women that identify with the LGBT so they may naturally be more liberal or more inclined to support "trans rights".

But the kind of polling difference you are talking about, you would need evidence for.

ArabeIIaScott · 13/06/2023 15:59

I would be very curious to hear how many lesbians may be affected by the 'chilling effect'.

Do lesbians feel safe expressing 'gender critical' views, or stating they exclude males from their sexuality?

ArabeIIaScott · 13/06/2023 15:57

BaronMunchausen · 13/06/2023 15:18

The signs in UK female toilets warning women and girls to respect and not challenge any male who might be there, ALL use the word "bathroom" or "restroom".

Not even a minimal effort to hide the US cultural colony mindset, or pretend some independent thought was involved.

I noticed several of the speeches from the pro gender side yesterday referenced the US, including a couple of mentions of abortion laws. Really oddly. Has absolutely nothing to do with this issue; debating a point of UK law in UK parliament.

QueenHippolyta · 13/06/2023 15:32

Men in skirts and nail varnish can feck right off and hang out with the Queers and Pansexuals.
This Lesbian and others are rightly resisting the colonization of Lesbian life by MALE oppressors who call themselves transwomen to disguise what they are doing!
MALES OUT OF WOMAN'S SPACES

Datun · 13/06/2023 15:21

TeaKlaxon · 13/06/2023 14:35

I suggest you listen to Angela Eagle's speech from yesterday.

You can suggest what you like.

Lesbian it's not open to heterosexual man, however much they bleat about it.

BaronMunchausen · 13/06/2023 15:18

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/06/2023 13:36

The ability of a trans woman to use the women's bathrooms.

Why do trans activists always use the Americanism "bathroom"? It sounds twee and affected when British people use it when they mean a public toilet.

MTF trans people are male, and women's toilets and changing rooms (or whatever you mean) are for female people. Surveys show that most women don't want to share female spaces with male bodied people.

The signs in UK female toilets warning women and girls to respect and not challenge any male who might be there, ALL use the word "bathroom" or "restroom".

Not even a minimal effort to hide the US cultural colony mindset, or pretend some independent thought was involved.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/06/2023 14:36

Eloquently put, @Datun.

TeaKlaxon · 13/06/2023 14:35

Datun · 13/06/2023 13:57

I'm not saying this about you TeaKlaxon because you're just an anonymous, random person on a parenting site and could be anyone, but, imo, the only people who are desperate to make lesbianism accepting of heterosexual men is - heterosexual men. For perfectly obvious reasons.

Women who are solely attracted to women have a collective name - lesbians - and a sexual orientation which is protected by law.

They have zero need to change their name, or the understanding of their sexual orientation. There's no point. And they have been battling heterosexual men who want lesbianism to be a way to have sex and validation simultaneously since forever. Even before men calling themselves women, men wanted to be validated as studs, who can satisfy a woman who 'allegedly' has zero interest in their genitalia, but are somehow magically very much mistaken 🙄

Lesbianism is about women, it has absolutely nothing to do with men. If you want to invent a sexual orientation that means some women are attracted to women and also to men who want to be women, but not men who don't, then knock yourself out.

Lesbian is taken.

Despite you asking your mates 😁

I suggest you listen to Angela Eagle's speech from yesterday.

BezMills · 13/06/2023 14:12

@Datun I fully respect that and I have noooooooo business saying otherwise.

@ArabeIIaScott fair enough, I've said more than enough about his private business, and I'll stop.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/06/2023 13:38

But it should perhaps make people stop using lesbians to further their case.

"People" like lesbians who disagree with you, you mean?
