Can MNHQ set up a new discussion category called Feminism: sex & gender discussion (inclusive, non-GC)

MN, will you please create a talk group/category of Feminism: sex & gender discussion (inclusive, non-GC)?

MN appears to currently have only 2 feminism categories:
Feminism: chat
Feminism: sex & gender discussions

But the Feminism: sex & gender category on MN is predominantly GC, with its emphasis on trans exclusion ideology. Feminists who do not subscribe to those beliefs are often unwelcome and treated with derision and hostility in discussions. Certainly not always as some GC posters do enjoy open, intellectual discussions but often enough that engagement can be toxic & intimidating all around.

It is almost impossible for non-GC feminists to find inclusive/non-GC feminist discussions, and we have to wade through unpleasant (for us) GC threads while attempting to do so.

GC feminism dominates on UK parenting sites in particular. However, inclusive/non-GC feminism is extremely popular around the world (especially in places like the US, NZ, and AU) and in the UK among younger feminists and those who do not see trans rights as a threat to women & girls’ safety. Many UK feminists are non-GC but may feel silenced on MN.

The addition of another category will help open up and improve MN discussions while reducing the toxicity and hostility that many feminists on both sides experience in discussions.

So I propose the following feminism discussion categories:
Feminism: chat (general)
Feminism: sex & gender discussions (GC)
Feminism: sex & gender discussion (inclusive, non-GC)

Ah Im having a crap day so thanks OP & Bone 🧦

do feel free to post any thread you like on here to explain why we should Centre mens feelings above women’s on the feminism board - sex & gender

ppl not agreeing with, asking for facts rather than feelings and pointing out that TW are men is not shouting anyone down

PronounssheRa · 04/04/2023 15:38

(inclusive, non-GC)?

That is funny.

Inclusive, but not Inclusive

I’m new enough to MN that I am unfamiliar with the history that led to the set up of the feminism boards as they currently are.
I assumed the feminism:chat category was for posts unrelated to sex & gender. Is that assumption not accurate?

But we can all see the calibre and toxicity of the replies to me in just the first few minutes of my post being up. It’s a lot of negativity for a MN poster to be subjected to for a straightforward, respectful post.
And it is proof of the underlying need for the category I’ve requested.

People disagreeing with you is not toxic.

Toxic would be people throwing (metaphorical) tomato soup over your head.

lechiffre55 · 04/04/2023 15:35

There always the place where they farm kiwis. I'm sure you'll have a great time there.

DarkDayforMN · 04/04/2023 15:33

Why don't you go to Reddit? The various deeply unsavoury characters who moderate almost all the subs make sure it's an echo chamber on trans issues - if you ever see an opinion you disagree with there you can report it, and some she/her or other will delete it for you.

nilsmousehammer · 04/04/2023 15:33

'Shouted down' - holes pulled in arguments and inconvenient facts mentioned.

Have the chat board. Tis what it's for. Naice feminism where no one is allowed to mention the cantering elephants amongst the tumbleweed.

Codlingmoths · 04/04/2023 15:31

Feminists (the centring women kind): women should not be physically threatened and lose their jobs and careers for gc opinions.
non gc ‘feminists’: mumsnet we should be able to exclude gc viewpoints from our threads we shouldn’t have to see those opinions it’s not faaiiiiir

genuine question : would you try and get a gc woman pushed out at your work? Would you ostracise her and badmouth her to others?

Phelm · 04/04/2023 15:31

Many UK feminists are non-GC but may feel silenced on MN

I would say that they're not feminists if they believe that men can somehow become women.

RoseslnTheHospital · 04/04/2023 15:31

@PlanetLuna your opening post was not straightforward nor was it respectful. It contained a whole heap of disrespect towards people whose posts aren't of the "calibre" you demand.

You're so new to the site that you don't know how it works, you don't understand the purpose of the different boards or how they came to exist, you don't know how to post messages to the admins, and yet you think you know better than everyone who's been here for years how it should be set up?

Gosh. How very... confident of you.

TangledUpinBlu · 04/04/2023 15:08

How can you be a feminist if you're not critical of the concept of gender?
I don't get it.

Try asking Angela Rayner, Lisa Nandy, Penny Mordaunt, etc al.

Agree.

As you can see women are now being told how to think and feel by highly toxic other women, who want to blame everything on the TRAs they are apparently desperately impersonating.

If you don’t agree immediately you are shouted down. It’s an absolute joke.

Floisme · 04/04/2023 15:30

I must admit, I hadn't realised until just now how quiet it had gone on Feminism Chat. They seem to have had 2 posts in the last 24 hours. Whatever happened to all those feminist mumsnetters who were clamouring for their own board?

FourTeaFallOut · 04/04/2023 15:25

So popular it's right up there with ebola board for traffic.

2 threads with latest activity today on that board
34 threads with latest activity today on this board

I think OP wants people to go on the other board to validate them. It's always about the validation.

sweetcreams · 04/04/2023 15:20

Keep the two existing spaces and create a new section:

Femalism: Kellie-Jay Keen stan chat

where her followers can post gifs and Carl Benjamin/Matt Walsh/alt-right links to their heart's content.

You should start charging Kellie-Jay Keen rent babe, you'd make a fortune.

RealityFan · 04/04/2023 15:29

RoseslnTheHospital · 04/04/2023 15:04

Oh please.

You have Feminism: Chat all to yourselves. It was separated off for you - is that not enough?? Now you want an additional section too??

Feminism Chat is a deadzone, tumbleweed abounds. Have at it and get creating your chosen threads fgs.

Hmm, is that a...seperate space?...a safe space?...funny, that...

RoseslnTheHospital · 04/04/2023 15:29

@PlanetLuna what people here are telling you is that Feminism: Chat is specially just for you. Isn't that helpful and fantastic for you to find out? It's exactly what you want. You can post away there.

What you can't do is insist that certain types of poster can't post.

And, the split was forced upon the regular posters and was not wanted, hence the continuing irritation towards that decision. I appreciate that you won't necessarily know the history of it.

TeenDivided · 04/04/2023 15:29

OP. What would you discuss on your new inclusive board? Genuine question. If TWAW then I can't see what you would have left to discuss, unless you want to say how bad it is that TW aren't allowed in women's athletics any more and how the rapist should have been allowed in the Scottish prison? But then you would get people putting the other side of the argument and you'd be back with the existing board.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 04/04/2023 15:27

GC feminism dominates on UK parenting sites in particular.

I wonder why older women, mostly with children or experience of child development, and with years of lived experience of being a woman, would notice gender identity theory had holes in as a philosophy...

However, inclusive/non-GC feminism is extremely popular around the world (especially in places like the US, NZ, and AU) and in the UK among younger feminists and those who do not see trans rights as a threat to women & girls’ safety.

If it's so popular, I'm sure they have places to discuss it other than a British parenting forum then. Why should this website be altered for the sake of people who are not users? Google (other search engines are available) "we hunted the mammoth". The chat section there should meet your needs.

Many UK feminists are non-GC but may feel silenced on MN

A Feminist Chat section was already created to serve this notional population. It appears rumours of its size were greatly exaggerated. Like other male parts of the body politic.

Giggorata · 04/04/2023 15:27

It isn't “trans exclusionary ideology”.
Just, oh I don't know, the notion that women's rights, separate spaces and categories belong to them, and are not to be given away to men in frocks

FourTeaFallOut · 04/04/2023 15:25

Floisme · 04/04/2023 15:24

If I recall correctly op, Feminism Chat was created by popular demand for this specific purpose.

So popular it's right up there with ebola board for traffic.

Floisme · 04/04/2023 15:25

Would you like someone to come over to Feminist Chat and start some threads for you?
