The murderer who came in and killed 3 children and 3 adults is trans and called Audrey, I am confused as to their biological sex.

Criminals should only be identified by their legally recognised gender. That means that unless they have a gender recognition certificate they should be identified by their biological sex.

It is important that crimes are reported and recorded accurately. Also, this murderer has not shown any consideration to the victims and deserves no consideration regarding their feelings about their gender.

Another horrific shooting in a school, a primary school no less.

I was very confused over whether a man or woman had done this, I assumed it was a man saying he was a woman. God it's so confusing all this nonsense. If it was a woman (a biological woman) who did this why are they referring to her as a woman and not a man, if she was trans? If this was a man pretending to be a woman they'd also be referred to as a woman. Confused.

The public cannot understand this type of crime fully as they do not have access to all the facts - that will only appear much later following an investigation. This is the reporting stage of a dreadful and tragic incident - this was a murder.

We the public are not stupid. We understand what a mass shooting is. And we want to know who the culprit is. That includes the culprit's sex. It's called 'The News' not the 'Patronising Obfuscation'.

It's confusing because the media seem to call male rapists 'she' when they identify as female but a female shooter 'she' when they identify as male.

It does look like bias but I'm sure it can't be.

I noticed this too. It's disgusting- the narrative being changed to suit.

universityhelp · 28/03/2023 10:01

The photos I've seen show them using 'he/him' pronouns so it does seem strange that the media are for once referring to biological sex.

From the Guardian:

The shooter was named as Audrey Elizabeth Hale, 28, and from Nashville.
Drake said Hale was a former student at the school. He also said Hale identified as transgender.

That sounds like the murderer was male? Otherwise they are misgendering him? Also interesting use of 'identified as' transgender, but could just be reporting what was said.
Until journalist relearn the skill of reporting the facts, we can only speculate 🧐

According to the news reports this morning clarified as female, identifying as male.

This! How very strange.

Can't have a trans murderer. But a trans sex offender is just FIIIINNNNEEE!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 28/03/2023 09:59

You know who the most vulnerable people in society are? Children. These fuckwits head straight for a school for a reason. There will be no “day of visibility” for dead children.

daisy1765 · 28/03/2023 09:58

This is clearly a very disturbed woman. I'm guessing there probably wasn't any counselling support happening as that would be considered hateful conversion therapy.

MelsMoneyTree · 28/03/2023 09:55

Since the US is so litigious, I wonder if this will prompt any lawsuits against the TRA groups normalising violence and radicalising terrorists. Or against any of the medical profession involved in the murderer's healthcare and prescriptions.

Recording gender is vital for the public to understand the crime. It's vital when it comes to recording crime statistics.

Whatsthefrequencykenny · 28/03/2023 09:51

In this case Audrey left a manifesto and so they know some of the thinking and have sad that her / his gender ideology played a role in the shooting.

Noen of the people she shot were there when she attended the school so this wasn't a targeted attack of specific people. The CCTV footage shows him / her roaming the building prety much looking for people.

It isn't clear what pronouns Audrey used in everyday life. Their family uses she

But that is not what is happening here.

Do you see the difference?

Did you read the letter, poster on this thread, that I was referring to?

The fact that some groups are using the most vulnerable because trans in this way is entirely relevant.

potniatheron · 28/03/2023 09:47

twelly · 28/03/2023 09:46

My view is that there should be no prefix for with the person being referred to as either male or female. This tragic event is just awful for the families and not about the gender of the shooter.

I don't understand why the headlines are screaming TRANS... would they scream GAY or STRAIGHT or BI?

A shooter is a shooter is a shooter. Being trans is neither here nor there.

Awful, hateful reporting.

It is absolutely relevant to motive, in the same way as the reporting on Anders Breivik focussed on his right wing ideology. Or the reporting of the Pulse shooting focussed on the fact that it was a gay nightclub.

AllOfThemWitches · 28/03/2023 09:12

And how is it relevant here? Most of them aren't murdering kids.

No, they're not.

Because most of them aren't being told they're so oppressed, that everyone hates them an wants them to not exist and then being told that they need to retaliate alongside images of guns an knives and axes and baseball bats and bricks and fires and do on and do forth.

Stuff like that on top of mental health issues and potential autism or other neuro issues are a very dangerous combination

The letter from the TRA group was most definitely making excuses. More than making excuses, it was verging on DARVOing the situation.

But that is not what is happening here.

Do you see the difference?

RedToothBrush · 28/03/2023 09:36

I find this curious. The confusion is down to how this is being report and what has become standard protocol.

If it's a male who has committed a crime, then the adherence to pronouns and gender identity seems to be immediate and constant. Even sex offenders get this treatment, being referred to as she and by their female name but then details of their past are mentioned as a side point.

In this case, where it is a female, from the word go the press have referred to a woman identifying as a man, referred to her as 'she' but goes by he/him. There's not been any attempt to use he / him or describe as male.

It's categorically different treatment.

It's almost as if the press tries to pin male crimes on women but is desperate to point out that women can be violent too and we must not be mistaken in labelling a females crimes as male.

It's fascinating to watch the sexism on transgender reporting play out.

HereComesMaleficent · 28/03/2023 09:35

It would be interesting to see if this transsexual Male, was undergoing any treatment. As in testosterone injections.

Sadly testosterone and violence go hand in hand. Testosterone plays a part in the arousal of these behaviours.

Is this a new risk to these treatments? Does artificially increasing someone's testosterone level, increase risk of harm?

Testosterone is an interesting hormone, too little in a male can increase aggressiveness and violent behaviours, as seen in men who misuse anabolic steroids aka roid rage, and too much testosterone and it can also increase aggressive behaviours.

Maybe we really shouldn't be messing with peoples endocrine systems. No good will come of it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/03/2023 09:34

If this was a male perpetrator they would be described as she, and a woman or at least a trans woman. Because its just a regular woman her gender identity doesn't matter, or as others said its a better headline.

I think a bit of both. This isn't the first time I've seen this with an FTM alleged to have committed a violent act.

potniatheron · 28/03/2023 09:33

NotHavingIt · 28/03/2023 09:27

Of course one of the ironies in the practice of denying differnce is that these third wave feminists still seem perpelexed and outraged that male violence against women is still a thing.

It seems that each generation has to learn from its own mistakes and don't seem to benefit from wisdom already accrued. Each generation seems to have to go through the same sorts of initiations; travel, broadly, the same pathways as those who have gone before.

Some men have been violent towards women since hominids first swung down from the trees. When the connection between pregnancy and specific paternity was understood by homo erectus, it got worse. It's vital that we understand this and plan it into our feminism, imho. The idea that we can discard the sex differences is extraordinarily arrogant. The fact that increasing numbers of us live primarily through cyberspace, makes this tendency worse.

On Reddit I have read posts by young people who believe that the female clitoris is no different from the penis, just smaller. That female breasts and male 'breasts' have the same tissue structure. That women can have the same levels of testosterone as men. It's madness.

SquidwardBound · 28/03/2023 09:32

NotHavingIt · 28/03/2023 09:22

I really think you are missing the point . You seem to be creating a conflict where non actually exists. So I'll refrain from responding further. It would be a lengthy waste of time, no doubt.

Nobody is making excuses.
