There have been discussions about the book on different threads relating to various interviews with Barnes or pieces about the book. Thought it would be useful to bring everything on to one thread.

This review by Sarah Ditum is excellent and very moving:

Another good one from Suzanne Moore:

Excellent news, well done Hannah Barnes.

Time to Think is half price in hardback in Waterstones, or at least it is in my local branch.

The salesperson told me to enjoy reading it!

New review of Time to Think, by a former professor of nursing:

yeah I found it hard going but not because of the writing style which is excellent but that the material is just so upsetting.

Time to Think completely peaked my sister when I lent it to her, and she asked if she could pass it on to a friend/colleague (of course! The more people read it the better!). It’s so well-written, great narrative, and completely neutral in tone. A very important book. I preferred it to both Trans and Material Girls, for readability.

Just seen a Tweet from Justin Webb that, shamefully, the Cheltenham Festival is the only one that is featuring the book or interviewing Hannah.

There have been a few things that have peaked me, but the overall lukewarm response from so much of (un)civic society has so shocked me. In my top five of major peaks, if not Everest, then K2 at least.

I remember when the findings of the inquest on Baby P was made public, the fury was palpable, from the public, to journalists, to institutions.

Today? Re (un)civic society's response to the Tavistock, anger is muted, frustration is selective.

For me, it's worse than just a failure of protecting kids, or a medical scandal. It's a collective loss of confidence at the heart of liberal society. Those involved in the scandal have lost confidence in themselves, replaced with defensiveness, and working to avoid scrutiny, and we've lost confidence in institutions we used to take for granted had our, and our kids, best interest at heart ie the NHS and healthcare generally.

I naively thought Hannah's book would be not so much a wake up call, but a bucket of cold water to the face, or an electro shock to institutions to absolutely do a handbrake turn. Boy, was I mistaken.

👏 🤞

WarriorN · 06/09/2023 12:52

I really hope that her book wins and is widely read by those that need to.

That book is and could be more of an absolute turning point

Wonderful!

The clinic in Newcastle recently closed to new patients

Richie Herron's area.

Incidentally it also links professionals to WPATH on its website. Forensic research by Genderwang.

Great! I hope it wins many awards, it’s so very readable and a really important book. It’s “peaked” several people I know.

Here’s the relevant info re: the new referrals & waiting list management, commissioned by NHSE.

It’s called ‘CYP-GD’ (presumably stands for ‘Children & Young People - Gender Dysphoria?)

That's great news. It's such an important expose of the carnage that masquerades as healthcare for vulnerable, mentally unwell children.

TheBiologyStupid · 11/05/2023 22:15

Excellent news - thanks!

Time to Think has been nominated for the Orwell Prize.

In related news, i saw it prominently displayed at eye level in non fiction in Waterstones in Knutsford this week.

Yes. The UCL event seems to be hosted by a specific group within UCL (UCL women's liberation). The LSE one, usefully, seems to be organised by their Public Policy Department and is part of the LSE's well regarded public lecture series.

(Generally worth getting on the LSE mailing list as they host a varied range of interesting public talks. And also a way of allowing teenagers who are interested in studying social science a taste of some of the topics involved.)

That’s absolutely brilliant that each of these universities are hosting this. And absolutely brilliant that there will be an online record of it available to the public forever. It’s all true and evidenced so TRAs will absolutely hate all those facts and concerns being raised in public. Once we can get back to dealing in facts and evidenced outcomes for young people, those facts are never going to be on their side.
