Important new initiative for government workers. This is where a huge fight back is going to happen in behind the scenes government, in memos and meetings. If we don't win in the civil service, it doesn't matter how many demos or cases we win, how many twitter threads we write, sooner or later sex differences will be erased. If you work in government/public sector get involved asp.

seen-network.uk/

"We are happy to announce the launch of our new UK cross-government staff network, the Sex Equality and Equity Network.
SEEN is a staff network committed to promoting and supporting sex equality and equity between women and men in our workplaces, and helping all staff to thrive at work and fulfil their potential. The focus of our network is on challenging sex discrimination and upholding rights and protections that relate to sex (including the protections provided to those with the protected characteristics of sex, pregnancy and maternity and sexual orientation, as set out in the Equality Act 2010). We recognise that to achieve this and ensure sex equality and equity sometimes requires treating women and men differently, according to our different rights and needs.

We are also committed to the protected belief (covered by the protected characteristic of religion and belief in the Equality Act 2010) that biological sex is binary and immutable, that biological sex matters for both women and men in our everyday lives, including for our rights and needs in the workplace, and that biological sex must not be conflated with, or replaced by, the concepts of gender or gender identity."

I have this in my inbox to read when I'm back in next week.

notsurewherenotsurewhy · 10/08/2023 16:43

(For the wider readership here - I'm not going to share the link to the response, since the email asked for that not to happen.)

notsurewherenotsurewhy · 10/08/2023 16:42

Agree - such a comprehensive and well-written response, particularly impressive in the short timescales. Really grateful to have SEEN in our corner.

Just reading through the Gender Identity & Intersex policy response, it's absolutely brilliant, I'm so grateful this network exists to fight this crap.

I read that yesterday and thought it was utterly fantastic; such precise, accurate, measured language completely hammering the point home how the policy risks being illegal, exclusionary and contrary to the CS Code. I was mentally applauding SEEN's work on this all the way through.

I sat through a godawful presentation about intersectionality and privilege earlier this week - also very very relieved for this clarity and robustness.

@ThomasinaLivesHere yes they are. If you sign up here seen-network.uk/ then they can see if there are any other seen members in your department and put you in touch.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 28/07/2023 13:03

Is SEEN active in Scotland? I’m a civil servant and interested. I hate the intranet though as it’s so useless at finding anything. I did a few searches but didn’t see anything.

The origins of "cis" are something else: https://genevievegluck.substack.com/p/cis-coined-by-pedosexual-apologist

Thank you for posting that information about that horrific influential academic who coined the word ‘cis’.

Look how blind the inventor of ‘cis’ is to his twisting of his own experience of imagining ( or actually?) getting back the paradise of childhood through sex with a child as somehow being good for the child, when actually what will happen is that the child will lose their own paradise and possibly experience mental hell in the future or even possibly become a paedophile themselves.

He pretends that it is all about childish eroticism when it is all about his own.

“There is nothing wrong with pedophilia in the sense of the word, that is, against liking, even loving, children. The sensuality that spontaneously unfolds between a child and an adult is something wonderful. Nothing can remind us more intensely of the paradises of childhood. Nothing is purer and more harmless than this eroticism of the body and the heart. Childish eroticism is not only full of delights, it is also necessary.”

I am going to repost it to anyone who mentions ‘Cis’ in the future, and if I am feeling very upset about hearing ‘Cis’ yet again, especially if it is from an official body, may ask them if this is what they would want to align themselves with -even inadvertently.

The policy is inclusive. I'm not questioning that. I'm questioning the use of cis. To me, it is a 'micro agression'. I don't understand the definition of female gender, therefore I cannot be cis.

The feeling that you are wearing a tin hat when presenting those facts are a different matter, even though they are true. No, I don't know how we got this far into upsidedownworld! I'm not CS - or even armslength - so I can't pretend to have any idea how worrying it is to challenge this nonsense.

I dare not reveal in my department that I am a member. I'm still debating on how I will challenge the use of cis women in the menopause policy.

If you are a menopausal woman yourself, could you just not ask why men are included? In a sort of puzzled way (a la Peter Boghossian)? TBF, our menopause groups are open to all and we have been able to help men whose partners/wives are menopausal.

I'm sorry it's so hard, it really shouldn't be. But with the Maya thing, the Allison thing and the Mermaids v LGBA thing this week, perhaps now is the time to raise it? In a 'protecting reputation' sort of a way.

LuciferRising · 07/07/2023 21:17

I wish I knew if anyone else was a member where I worked.

WomanWithoutNeedOfPrefix · 07/07/2023 20:46

@FuriousBroccoli I've been in touch with some of the SEEN committee that are in my department so was lucky enough to get my hands on one. I'm looking forward to spotting another one 'in the wild' or some suffragette colours so that I can say hello!

@Gibberingheap I was initially worried about wearing my lanyard, but now I almost want someone to challenge me. Proponents of gender ideology have had everything their way for too long and have got used to having any opposing view silenced. I completely trust that SEEN would back me up if I had to complain about my treatment for wearing a lanyard of an official network, and that HR would have to support me.

@Woman2023 I would also encourage you to join. It’s incredibly discreet and no-one will know that you’re in SEEN, unless you want them to.

As an aside, I added the SEEN logo and link to my email signature a few weeks ago and nothing has been said by anyone. I was a little nervous but so far so good. However, it’s my choice to make public being in the network and many choose not to.

I did this too on my email signature, partly in response to all the fucking progress pride flags that colleagues were putting on theirs. No one has said any about it.

WRT SEEN being trustworthy, they definitely are. I have been involved in setting up a chapter in my department. The SEEN rep is very cautious about who they put in contact with us, and there are vetted meetings before someone is introduced to the rest.

I'm going to be working closely with some SCS soon and they all wear the Proud Trust lanyards. Perhaps if I wear my SEEN lanyard it might spark a discussion, but I fear it might spark my removal from the project Confused

This would surely be discrimination on the grounds of belief. Not that I would be brave enough to wear one. Which is shocking really - our beliefs are WORIADS.

I’ve noticed that some of our SCS have moved from rainbow lanyards to corporate-badged ones lately. I don’t see SCS often enough to know how widespread this is though.

FuriousBroccoli · 06/07/2023 22:48

@WomanWithoutNeedOfPrefix where did you get the lanyard from? I'm sporting a suffrage colours pin on mine but it's only little.

WomanWithoutNeedOfPrefix · 06/07/2023 22:28

I'd encourage you to join, and to be a proud member. I've been sporting my lanyard at the office with no ill effects. We are a legitimate network and the more of us there are the easier it becomes for others to join us and to speak up.

FuriousBroccoli · 06/07/2023 12:04

@Woman2023 I would encourage joining as well, you can remain a completely anonymous member it seems. I receive all their comms but my details aren't out there anywhere to find unless I want them to be.

Woman2023 · 06/07/2023 07:20

Back to reality. I'm still nervous about joining SEEN due to being relatively new in the civil service and the sheer amount of nonsense blogs we get about pride and transgender awareness etc.

I joined recently and have been impressed both with the content on the website (in terms of how measured and thoughtful it is) and with their recognition of member's concerns over confidentiality. I'd encourage you to join.

Has anyone else seen the updated draft civil service policy on “gender identity and intersex”? I received this from the CGGN today and they are asking for feedback. I would encourage other civil servants to respond.

Yes, I received it a few months ago. I would encourage you to respond to it but don’t expect anyone to take your concerns seriously. We wrote a response and were completely shut down. There are others doing the same in multiple other departments who are equally getting nowhere.
