Important new initiative for government workers. This is where a huge fight back is going to happen in behind the scenes government, in memos and meetings. If we don't win in the civil service, it doesn't matter how many demos or cases we win, how many twitter threads we write, sooner or later sex differences will be erased. If you work in government/public sector get involved asp.

seen-network.uk/

"We are happy to announce the launch of our new UK cross-government staff network, the Sex Equality and Equity Network.
SEEN is a staff network committed to promoting and supporting sex equality and equity between women and men in our workplaces, and helping all staff to thrive at work and fulfil their potential. The focus of our network is on challenging sex discrimination and upholding rights and protections that relate to sex (including the protections provided to those with the protected characteristics of sex, pregnancy and maternity and sexual orientation, as set out in the Equality Act 2010). We recognise that to achieve this and ensure sex equality and equity sometimes requires treating women and men differently, according to our different rights and needs.

We are also committed to the protected belief (covered by the protected characteristic of religion and belief in the Equality Act 2010) that biological sex is binary and immutable, that biological sex matters for both women and men in our everyday lives, including for our rights and needs in the workplace, and that biological sex must not be conflated with, or replaced by, the concepts of gender or gender identity."

@ahagwearsapointybonnet Thank you very much! Really good news! Let's hope that SEEN in the NHS gets going. 😃

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 01/03/2024 13:47

Yes the 5 launched so far are the Civil Service (first one), SEEN in the City (finance), Police, HR and now Parliament. Heard rumours that there may be an NHS one coming too, but nothing launched publicly so far (I hope so though!).

The ones I know of are the original Civil Service one, SEEN in the City which is financial services, there's a police one and one planned for the NHS. So that's 5 with the Parliament one.

There's also CAN-SG for clinicians, which is similar.

That's awful - can you email SEEN and let them know? Definitely one for them to be aware of, as they seem to be talking to senior people

Yes, I think I will do that!

The letter is great, and I'm so pleased to see other SEEN networks popping up all over the place! It helps to counter the dismay I feel that my department has decided to get Stonewall in for some training this month.

Someone mentioned a SEEN for HR professionals on another thread as well.

@ahagwearsapointybonnet Can you please give us the list of 5? Thank you in advance.

Also have you seen there's another new SEEN just been announced - SEEN in Parliament! So that's 5 already launched now I think? And possibly more in the pipeline...

ArabellaScott · 29/02/2024 21:38

Fantastic work, well done to SEEN.

PriOn1 · 29/02/2024 20:33

Good! Something to look forward to tomorrow!

MiddleSaged · 29/02/2024 20:32

No, we’ve been specifically asked not to share the letter or its details beyond the Civil Service. You can imagine how it could be twisted and selectively quoted by TRAs to disparage the network.

GreenAllOver · 29/02/2024 20:19

Can you share any details?

MiddleSaged · 29/02/2024 20:11

Yes, fantastic letter and good to see senior leaders are prepared to meet and discuss the concerns with the SEEN co-chairs.

WellHereWeGoNow · 29/02/2024 19:09

Good email from seen today about how they are challenging gender insanity with Simon Case head of civil service ! With extensive detailed dossier of evidence !!! Incredible

Tallisker · 07/02/2024 17:11

What's the insane presentation?

throwawayforobviousreasons · 07/02/2024 15:59

Anyone who works in transport - we have just had a Chapter set up. If you're interested in joining, please ask to be put in touch with us via the central contact details on the SEEN website. The reaction from the central wellbeing team has, surprisingly, been really supportive.

WellHereWeGoNow · 06/02/2024 22:37

I see a:gender are still doing their insane presentation in various civil service departments

LuciferRising · 19/09/2023 18:08

I'll get it unblocked.

Tallisker · 19/09/2023 16:56

Works for me too.

Brumtiddly · 19/09/2023 16:39

It’s fine on mine, lucifer.

LuciferRising · 19/09/2023 16:04

Is the SEEN network website blocked in anyone else's department?

BadSpellaSpellaSpella · 11/08/2023 13:55

Sorry - wrong thread! I'll ask to be removed!
